Sgt. Alberto Martinez of the New York National Guard is accused of killing his two superior officers after reportedly being disciplined by one of them and is believed to be the first soldier in Iraq to face such charges.
MSNBC military analyst and retired Army Colonel Jack Jacobs joined MSNBC's Amy Robach on Friday to discuss the charges and whether there is a danger of fragging becoming a growing trend.

So MSNBC is looking (hoping) for more ?
Be prepared for the post-traumatic-stress-this-war-just-got-to-me defense.
Stupid Bush.
You bet. He would have been much better off taking the reprimand.
He shouldn't live that long.
Fragging entered the American lexicon in the Vietnam War. Such incidents increased late in the 1960s as the strains grew on a draftee army waging an unpopular war. Young men feeling hassled or unnecessarily put in harm's way by their commanders settled their grievances with a fragmentation grenade or a bullet in the back.
Between 1969 and 1971, the Army reported 600 fragging incidents that killed 82 Americans and injured 651. In 1971 alone, there were 1.8 fraggings for every 1,000 American soldiers serving in Vietnam, not including gun and knife assaults.
SOB's trying and hoping to get it started again. Dick Durban and John "Senate Testimony" Kerry are good examples of the MSM"s idea of a hero.
I think it was Bernard Goldberg who said that the men who were reporters during the Vietnam war and Watergate are all executives or top dollar anchors today. They think they see a chance to get their last big score before retirement.
The 'diminished capacity' defense won't work...
Not with PTSD as causal...
If he'd have only fragged himself instead he could have been the democrat presidential nominee in 30 years.
Whatever happened to that mook that rolled a grenade into an officer's tent a couple/three years ago?
Yes he should. He should be turned over to his former troopies - THEY are the only ones in the world with the right to define 'justice' in this case - with the absolute order that they can do anything to/with him EXCEPT kill him. For a very, Very, VERY long time. I'm sure he will want suicide before too long, and he should be denied that luxury.
Agreed.
But what are the other 59 minutes for?
My money says yes.
I believe he got life.
"Whatever happened to that mook that rolled a grenade into an officer's tent a couple/three years ago?"
That dude never even made it out of Kuwait. I think he got 35 years.
His life sentence costs us taxpayers too much - he's another one who should've been returned to his former mates for justice.
I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing someone was being torn apart limb by limb and fed to dogs.
I'm just not that violent.
