that is a humorous statement. It is ridiculous, isn't it?
I was amazed that Cranford said PVS patients and Alzheimer's patients have no constitutional rights. The same man testifies for their "right to die."
In Fl. even pregnant pigs have Constitutional protection...which brings me back to a question I asked long ago in these threads and never received an answer. Several election cycles passed during the time period emcompassing the Schiavo case. Long before protesters descended on Largo Fl., volunteers were out in force here in the State collecting signatures on petitions to put protections for pregnant pigs on the ballot as a constitutional amendment. They collected enough signatures, got the issue before the voters in the last election and now (believe it or not it passed) we have constitutional protection for pregnant pigs codified into law by the people of Fl. by ballot.
There was plenty of time for Randal Terry to take this route. He rebuffed offers of help from the local GOP to help provide signature collectors. He took the "high profile media event" route. And this was the wrong case to do that with because the facts of it were pretty clear already. The option was to try and change the law by a simple ballot vote with the people of Fl. on whether or not to remove artificial nutrition and hydration from the list of medical procedure considered to be extraordinary.
I don't believe Randal thought such a law would pass...and he's probably right.
