IRA admits killing of teenage girl in 1973

BELFAST (Reuters) - The IRA admitted on Friday to the 1973 killing of a teenage girl that it had blamed on the British army and apologised to her family who had called on the paramilitaries to accept responsibility.

Kathleen Feeney was shot dead near her home in Londonderry. At the time, the IRA, which put its violent, 30-year campaign against British rule on hold in 1997, blamed British soldiers for the 14-year-old's murder.

"We wish to apologise unreservedly to the Feeney family for the death of Kathleen and all the grief that our actions have caused to them," the IRA said in a statement to the Derry Journal.

British Army commanders in the area said some of their troops came under fire at the time of the incident, but denied any of the soldiers had fired the fatal shots.

Last year the Feeney family asked the IRA to admit its members had killed Kathleen, saying their failure to do so had added to the family's hurt and pain.

OH F*** those SCUMBAGS - those traitors to my country - they do everything with a hidden agenda - I actually believe that the Garda Siochana and the Irish Defence Forces should put our treacherous government under pressure to ERADICATE Sinn Fein/IRA (after all the two forces swear an oath to Bunreacht na hEireann [Constitution of Ireland] ~ let them enforce it!!!!

I'm sorry it's Reuters that this is from, though!

I will cheerfully support Gerry Adams or any member of the IRA.

I'll even bring my own rope. You find us a good tree....

LOL! There was a historical tree, maybe 10-15 miles away, where they hung people centuries ago - they removed it though, GOVERNMENT decided it was to far out on the road, or something - anyways, plenty of high trees beside my own home, very welcome for that purpose!!

The IRA made some bad decisions over the last 40 years.

One was to affiliate itself with Continental commies. That ended up with parts of the IRA proclaiming common cause with Pol Pot and his genocidal program ~ definitely made folks question their sanity.

More recently they've been caught in bed with South American Latino narcotrafficantes, as well as Moslem extremists like AlQaida. Not sure that decision helped draw Roman Catholic support to them.

Eventually these guys will go out of business, and you will find the non-Catholic population in Northern Ireland demanding to join the Irish Republic for simple economic reasons.

More than likely it's time for these guys to start building a really high stone wall because the problem will not end until it's all settled in bed, like here!

Erm...isn't the apology to the British Armed Forces glaringly missing from the Shinners?

Nothing new - the shinners have killed many innocent children during their "struggle". I bet they think that an apology will be seen as a positive gesture.

Like I always said, if you vote sinn fein, then your a bloody idiot.

Ya, for some reason... oh BTW, I clicked on some of *my own* keywords - I see FederalistVet, or whatever he was called, got the beeber stuned! I hope there's more to follow - getting bored with IRA trolls on FR!

BTW, Happy, did you have a bonfire this week? Great oul' crack, aren't they? (Do ye have such things in Wexford?) My village had one tonight - a tradition at least a hundred years old in my village! No EPA helicopters either!

Nice to see the three of us on a thread at the same time (old times)! Happygal and Colosis - ye must be busy at the moment!!!

Oh please, please, PLEASE! That's the smoking gun I'm looking for - have you a link for Sinn Fein/IRA connections with Al Qaida ~ your help to maintain a democratic Ireland will not go unrewarded!

Old times indeed Irish. I've just moved house to the country so I'm really busy - too busy to post but I always have time to read the pings, so keep 'em coming. Good to see you holding the fort! No bus-bombing-baby-killing shinners will get an easy ride here.

How's happygal? - must catch up with you in Wexford in October for a couple of swiftees or Pimms on ice. I think we'll be there during some opera festival.

Bonfire? Eh...no. Last time I saw a bonfire round these parts was when Wexford won the All-Ireland hurling in 96.

I expect I'll see another one this year, so! ;-)

Been fairly busy myself, since I got home from my two weeks in Rhodes! :-) Work has me travelling to Wicklow every day, and I was in Killarney last weekend.

Colosis, if you are in Wexford for the Opera Festival, you better look me up! Hey, you might even get to see me sing on stage, if you are here at the right time. I'm in a 'Hits from the Musicals' show during the Festival. :-)

It doesn't mean anything unless the persons who did it are put on trial.
