Storms Irate At Gay Flier At A Library
Tampa Tribune ^ | 6/25/05 | Mark Holan & Ellen Gedalius

Should Hillsborough County libraries direct young people to outside agencies and Web sites where they can explore questions about their sexuality, possibly without parental consent? Hillsborough County Commissioner Ronda Storms doesn't think so. Storms said Friday a pamphlet distributed in the Gay Pride Month display at West Gate Regional Library bolsters the county's policy decision banning promotion of gay pride events.

``It confirms to me that this is the right thing to do,'' Storms said, steering the policy away from charges of discrimination and censorship.

The pamphlet ``Lesbian & Gay Support Groups: You are not alone!'' includes telephone numbers and Web addresses for groups such as Also Out Youth, the National Youth Advocacy Coalition and The Other Queer Page. The pamphlet contains an ``OK to be Gay'' logo.

``In my opinion, it engages Hillsborough County in very high-risk behavior, not to mention encouraging children to engage in very high-risk behavior,'' Storms said.

She suggested the pamphlet directs children to people and places without their parents' knowledge. The list of Web addresses includes Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays and Gay Parent Magazine. Storms obtained the pamphlet Friday, nine days after proposing the policy to ``abstain from acknowledging, promoting and participating'' in gay pride recognition or events. The gay pride display at West Gate and a presentation of gay-themed books at the John F. Germany branch downtown were ordered removed after the June 15 vote. But gay rights activists and others continue to challenge the policy.

The NAACP's St. Petersburg branch issued a statement Friday to the gay and lesbian rights group, Equality Florida, denouncing the commission's decision.

``We want you to know that we stand with you in your courageous fight against bigotry and prejudice,'' the statement said. ``The actions taken by the Hillsborough County Commission are an affront to us all who are actively fighting against racism, anti-Semitism, bigotry and injustice.''

Storms and Commissioner Tom Scott, who is black, have said gay rights and civil rights are not the same. Also Friday, the county's Citizen Advisory Committee agreed to discuss the policy at its July 22 meeting.

``The question is what does it mean for the county and the county employees, and does the CAC agree with that approach,'' committee member Charles ``Chip'' Fletcher said. ``The CAC is asking for information to make a decision whether or not to ask commissioners to reconsider their position.''

Time to draw the Line on these Sicko's and their Dangerous lifestyle. Bigotry and Prejudice ---- BS, They are Sick in the head, twisted. Their lifestyle goes against the Natural Order of Things and Gods Laws.

The Progressive Liberals, and Homosexuals have one thing in common - They do not believe in God, Otherwise they would keep the Laws of God, which is against this Lifestyle.

Before anyone gets self-righteous about this matter, they should remember that gay and gender-variant adolescents have an appalling suicide rate, even appproaching 50 percent. It does not seem productive, to deny them access to counseling.

I see the that was presented as a link to suicide prevention resources. The existing evidence does suggest that gay and gender variant individuals are that way from early childhood. In other words, they know they are different from an early age. Some of the evidence does suggest the difference has a biological origin, originating within the womb.

I know that evidence will not please some people, but the evidence does suggest the need for further biological research. Prenatal endocrinology is an area of primary concern, as well as some research into multi-factorial genetics.

I see this as nothing less than government cooperation in the open promotion of deviant and unhealthy behavior. Allowing this promotion to occur at a taxpayer-funded institution is a signal to parents everywhere that their rights in counseling and raising their own children will not be respected.

I can't even imagine being a parent and having to answer questions about this topic to a pre-teen or young teenager. They're confused enough about things as it is.

Since your sources claim therapy is capable of changing the sexual orientation of these adolescents, perhaps we should conduct a scientific investigation of the efficacy of their version of therapy.

What I would suggest is using their therapy methods to change the sexual orientation of a heterosexual man or woman to gay. After all, if their method works, it would not be difficult for them to do that and then reverse the process, to return them to the way they were before.

Homosexuality is an deviant perversion of healthy human sexuality.
The above statement is fact.
Unless and until you acknowledge that fact as a baseline biological truth, any arguments or opinions as to how any given society deals with sexual deviants is fruitless.

However, it happens all the time in nature. There have been reports of homosexual behavior in animals, in the wild and zoos. Some examples include sea gulls and penguins, as well as mammals. Why does this happen? Is it something that happens prenatally in those animals?

People are not laboratory rats.

Obviously not all homosexuals want to change their orientation, so of course they won't change. But if the truth that they CAN change were broadcast, instead of being hidden from public view, at least many would have an informed choice.

The way it works now is kids are indoctrinated at a young age that if they've had one "gay" thought or act, they now are "gay" and can never change since they're supposedly born that way.

But since there is zero scientific evidence that homosexuality is genetic, and much evidence (including tens of thousands of former homosexuals) that it is a psychological dysfunction, there is no reason for that truth to be taught, for instance, in schools.

Your suggestion is like purposely infecting people with small pox or some other disease and then seeing if they can be cured. Not exactly the same, but similar.

Anyway, the example is already there - many men in prisons act out homosexually, and when they get out, revert to their normal heterosexuality.

"But since there is zero scientific evidence that homosexuality is genetic, and much evidence (including tens of thousands of former homosexuals) that it is a psychological dysfunction, there is no reason for that truth to be taught, for instance, in schools."

Some examples that would raise questions about that claim:

1. Twin studies. If one member of a pair of identical twins is homosexual, there is a higher probability that the second twin will also be homosexual. The rate of concordance is about 50%. The incidence of homosexuality is usually about 2 to 10%, depending upon the source. If the incidence is 2%, the higher level of concordance in identical twins suggests a need for further research.

2. DES daughters (daughters of mothers, who took diethyl stilbestrol to prevent miscarriage). In addition to the increased incidence of clear cell carcinoma of the cervix, about 40% of these girls were lesbians. Again, this suggests exposure to diethyl stilbestrol increased the likelihood the girls would be lesbians.

3. A recent study that showed the hypothalamus in homosexual men repsponded differently to a specific pheromone (the pheromone is produced by men) than heterosexual men. In fact, the homosexual men were similar to women in their response to this pheromone. The homosexual men failed respond to the pheromone produced by women. This suggests a biological mechanism.

4. Rat experiments that involved pregnant female rats treated with cyproteron acetate, a potent androgen blocker. If the treatment was done at the proper stage of gestation, the male rat offspring would behave like female rats. The results suggest that blocking the action of testosterone on brain development will have a significant effect on sexual behavior.

5. The default development for humans and animals is female. Testosterone is essential to male sexual differentiation, including development of the brain.

Some examples of conditions relating to this include complete androgen insensitivity syndrome and XY gonadal agenesis. These individuals are XY (genetic male), but phenotypically they are female. There are also individuals, who are partially androgen insensitive, who may have ambiguous genital structure and may be variant in their gender identity.

Your tired, lame arguments have been taken apart so many times on FR. I am surprised you have the temerity to trot them out again. I'm not the tech guy who can instantly bring up the refutations, so I have asked scripter if he has time to bring them here.

Not for you, you are a dedicated promoter of the homosexual agenda. But for others who may read this thread.

Note: If by poisoning pregnant women with chemicals, some of the resultant poisoned children become sexually deviant, this is hardly an argument that homosexuality is normal!

The "smell" argument is so weak as to be non-existent. Actions change the brain. If a person is used to being sexually excited by the same sex, naturally the smell of the sex that person is attracted to will attract them. Duh!!

Again, torturing rats in laboratories and chemcially making deviants of them is not a compelling argument for "gay is good and natural". It's an argument called "clutching at straws".

And the tiny percentage of unfortunates who are born deformed, without proper genitals, have nothing to do with the 2% of the population who self-identify as "gay" and the small percentage of those who are promoting the "gay" agenda.

BTW, the twin studies have been dismantled so many times on other threads, and people such as yourself who promote the "gay" agenda keep dragging the same discredited studies out over and over again, kind of like a cat who keeps dragging the dead headless rat onto the living room rug no matter how many times you toss both of them outside.

Before anyone gets self-righteous about this matter, they should remember that gay and gender-variant adolescents have an appalling suicide rate, even appproaching 50 percent. It does not seem productive, to deny them access to counseling.

Nothing could be farther than the truth.

For more than a decade, Traditional Values Coalition has been repeatedly exposing the myth of an "epidemic" of "homosexual" teen suicides.

Now, a psychologist has published the results of two studies that-once again-expose the Homosexual Urban Legend that teens who have homosexual feelings are committing suicides in record numbers.

Homosexual activists have repeatedly claimed for more than ten years that 30% of all teens who have attempted suicide are homosexuals. The mythological 30% figure was concocted by a homosexual social worker named Paul Gibson who wrote "Gay Male and Lesbian Youth Suicide," published in 1989. It has been thoroughly debunked, but homosexuals continue to use the figure because it supports their political and social agenda.

This 30% myth has been used over and over again to convince public school officials to establish pro-homosexual counseling programs, special clubs for homosexuals run by Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) teenagers, and sensitivity/anti-homophobia training sessions to convince straight students that homosexual behavior is normal.

The latest studies that expose the 30% urban legend appear in the December, 2001 issue of Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. The author of these studies is Cornell University psychologist Ritch Savin-Williams.

Savin-Williams says previous homosexual teen suicide studies were flawed and exaggerated because they were drawn from group homes or runaway shelters where the most troubled teens gather. Researchers also took at face value the claims that these teens made about their attempts at suicide.

Savin-Williams surveyed a more representative group of teens. He focused on 349 students, ages 17 to 25. When these students told him they had tried to kill themselves, he asked them what method they had used.

Savin-Williams discovered the following: Over half of these reported suicide attempts turned out to be "thinking about it" rather than attempting it.

One study of 83 women showed a true suicide rate of 13% for those who hadn't attended a support group. (Between 7% and 13% of all teens have tried to kill themselves, according to latest figures.)

Another survey of 266 college men and women found that teens who think they are homosexuals were not much more likely to have attempted suicide than straight students. Homosexual students were more likely to have reported "attempts," but these turned out to be "thinking" about suicide rather than actually doing it. According to Savin-Williams, homosexual teen suicide statistics unfairly "pathologize gay youth, and that's not fair to them." Savin-Williams is not "anti-homosexual," but has apparently attempted to conduct honest research.

In fact, Beth Reis, a pro-homosexual activist with the Safe Schools Coalition solicited a clarification from Savin-Williams on his research. Reis was concerned that his work might have been misreported in the media. It was not.

Savin-Williams responded to her by noting: "When I solicit a broad spectrum of youths with same sex attractions, and not only those who openly identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual while in high school, and asked in-depth questions about their suicide history, I found statistically no difference in the suicide attempt rate based on sexual attractions. Although same-sex attracted youths initially reported a higher rate of suicide attempts, on further probing this sexual attraction disappeared." Savin-Williams believes that pro-homosexual adults have done a disservice to homosexual teens by creating a "suffering, suicidal, tragic" script for them that often leads these troubled teens to report attempted suicides when these events did not occur.

According to Savin-Williams, homosexuals do a disservice to "gay" teens when they "paint them with one rather narrow negative brush stroke." Homosexuals, however, have won great inroads into public schools by claiming that "gay" teens are killing themselves in record numbers. This 30% suicide claim is now gone-and activists are finally being forced to admit this fact-something they had refused to do for more than a decade.

Gay Suicide Myth

You forget that genetics does not always imply one to one concordance on a trait, it may simply predicate an increased susceptibility to a condition. Example: Increased incidence rate of breast Cancer in some families. It does not mean that all women in those families will get breast cancer, but it does mean they are more likely to get breast cancer.

So, getting back to the original question, there is an increased incidence in the other member of a set of identical twins. Is the increased incidence due to genetics, a prenatal endocrine imbalance, or a combination of those factors? More research is needed.

I have some doubts about the integrity of the Traditional Values Coalition and its director, Louis Sheldon. Why? It does seem that Sheldon is a 'money-grubbing preacher', in the tradition of Jim Bakker, the notorious televangelist. Sheldon apears to be running the traditional values coalition for the profit of himself and his family.

The Natioan Review had a thorough description of the chicanery Sheldon pulled in one of his escapades. To read the articles:

We're not discussing Rev Sheldon, nice try though. Google Ritch Savin-Williams, the author of the study I quoted. He's a respected authority among the homosexual community. Guess they don't all want to be perceived as victims...

---------------------------------

Losing our victim mentality

Being gay in a homophobic world may take its emotional toll on your emotions, but recent studies suggest that queers may not be as depressed as earlier studies suggest.

by Paula Martinac

In recent years, the results of studies about lesbian and gay mental health have been published in abundance in both the mainstream and gay press, and those results have been, well, depressing. As many as a third of queer teens are suicidal, we're told, and gay people are much more likely to suffer from depression and mental illness than their heterosexual counterparts. But two recent studies suggest that gay youth and adults may be much less miserable than we've been led to believe - and that's welcome news. I've always found the published results of studies about lesbian and gay mental health worrisome. They make us seem like such fragile, wounded victims of homophobia, barely able to get out of bed in the morning. I'm reminded of the unwanted pity a straight friend heaped on me when I came out to her 20 years ago. "Oh, that's such a hard life!" she said, shaking her head sadly.

But, in fact, most gay people, young and adult, function pretty well in the world. They go through the ups and downs of life much like straight people do - create relationships and have messy break-ups; love their jobs and hate their bosses; improve their finances and run into money problems. Although the discrimination gay people face in our society can sometimes be demoralizing, it's probably safe to say that many of us have not been debilitated by it.

The studies of our mental health are well-intentioned, I'm sure. They go hand in hand with the "we were born that way" theory of homosexuality. If it can be demonstrated that homophobia and anti-gay discrimination can cause people to become depressed - with teens, to the point of becoming suicidal - and if there's nothing anyone can do to change his or her sexual orientation, what better justification for trying to eliminate institutionalized prejudice?

But sometimes the results of these studies - particularly the ones that deal with gay youth - are mishandled, and not just by religious right-wingers who believe that homosexuality is a curable "condition." Gay activists, too, occasionally throw around the teen suicide figures in misleading ways. The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of South Florida, for example, has an online "Teen Suicide Fact Sheet" that uses dated statistics from studies published 10, 15, and 20-plus years ago in a way that suggests a whopping 25 to 30 percent of gay teens today may still be attempting suicide.

With those kinds of figures floating around, it's heartening that an article in the December Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology finds that the rate of gay teen suicide attempts has been exaggerated, possibly doubled. In his own surveys of gay youth, Ritch Savin-Williams, a psychologist at Cornell University, discovered that many teens who said they had attempted suicide had, in fact, really just been thinking about it. Savin-Williams further points out that most research on gay teen suicide has been conducted on troubled, at-risk kids in shelters and support groups.

In distorting the numbers of gay teens who are suicidal, the studies "pathologize gay youth," Savin-Williams told USA Today. Yes, gay teens can have difficult lives, but most of them, he noted, "are healthy and resilient." The book Revolutionary Voices: A Multicultural Queer Youth Anthology, edited by Amy Sonnie, provides ample testimony from gay youth who have endured a lot of pain for being queer (including a girl whose parents had her exorcised) and eventually come through it.

Librarians are notoriously leftist. Keep in mind that teachers are as well; I don't know if the education depts in universities share professors/ideology with library science depts. But since universities are hives of leftist vermin, there's a connection right there.

Librarians are often on the forefront of raising a ruckus about no "censorship" in libraries - code word for allowing kids (and anyone else) access to porn on library computers, or lots and lots of how-to books on "gay" sex.

The incidence of homosexuality is usually about 2 to 10%, depending upon the source. If the incidence is 2%, the higher level of concordance in identical twins suggests a need for further research.

What we need to do is look at the bigger picture - everything we know about homosexuality. What we know is there is no evidence homosexuality is genetic and no credible scientists says there is. As Satinover says in The Gay Gene?:

What about all the evidence that shows that homosexuality "is genetic"?
There is not any, and none of the research itself claims there is; only the press and, sadly, certain researchers do-when speaking in sound bites to the public.

The significance of your point #5 has less significance with homosexuality and genetics than those who admit to choosing the homosexual lifestyle.

Again, we have to look at all the evidence. Some of that evidence includes the growing number of ex-gays, which as someone recently said is the silver bullet to born that way proponents.

Check the end of my profile for the source. I didn't think there was enough room to put the source in my tagline. There are also 3 other (similar) quotes at the end of my profile that you may like as well.

Here is the issue in a nutshell, a county commissioner has banned County Taxpayer support for Gay pride events. She needs our support, this is where Freepers can make a difference. She is under pressure, and needs support.

She simply banned taxes for homosexual recruitment.

little jeremiah, EdReform please send to the ping list. Tampa Bay needs FR help in this.

Anyone who put out pamphlets extolling the joys of smoking cigarettes and encouraging children to smoke would be vilified. Oh wait! Encouraging children to smoke is illegal but encouraging them to try sodomy is okay...

What is wrong with this picture?!

Some examples that would raise questions about that claim:

I did not think homosexual activists were permitted on FR let alone to debate pro-homosexual talking points?

What Free Republic is all about:

Statement by the founder of Free Republic

As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

Free Republic is private property. It is not a government project, nor is it funded by government or taxpayer money. We are not a publicly owned entity nor are we an IRS tax-free non-profit organization. We pay all applicable taxes on our income. We are not connected to or funded by any political party, news agency, or any other entity. We sell no merchandise, product or service, and we offer no subscriptions or paid memberships. We accept no paid advertising or promotions. We are funded solely by donations (non tax deductible gifts) from our readers and participants.

We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion, and freedom of association, as well as our constitutional right to control the use and content of our own personal private property. Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.

CHILDREN are not allowed access to sexual material at the public library. A CHILD can not check out playboys at the library.

A recreations sex recruiting flyer is no different.

The fact that homosexuals can not comprehend that children and recreational sex do not mix speaks volumes for their mental illness.

The fact homosexuals are going after children after they have already been kicked out is doubly disgusting.

There is no gay gene. PERIOD.

There is no science to support it. period.

Consider how many other tracers are being found. In the short span of a few years the genes to breast cancer were found and a test developed.

If there was a direct homosexual gene it would have been found and a test developed.

You might as well be saying that native drums must still be studied as a tool for making solar eclipses go away.

The suicide prevention line is total BS when it comes to children. If anything homosexual attempts to recurit children into the perversion CAUSE suicide.

Today, the al-Tribune-irah is in full search-and-destroy mode. The lead editorial (actually, the only editorial) has a bunch of out-of-context quotes which the Tribune sweeties attribute to Ms. Storms and ends with her office (home?) number and "Tell Storms that her liar-liar strategy has embarrassed us and the nation."... This from Tampa Bay's "moderate" (snort snort) newspaper...
