Olympics: 'One World, One Dream' slogan for China's 2008 Olympics

BEIJING : China announced "One World, One Dream" as the official slogan for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, local media reported.

Li Changchun, a ranking member of the Communist Party, made the announcement at an elaborate show in Beijing on Sunday, according to the sina.com website.

China has spent six months searching for a slogan that would suit the world's most important sports event.

In late December the Beijing Organizing Committee (BOCOG) kicked off the search for the slogan, urging people to think up a catchy phrase that would be easy to remember in both English and Chinese.

"New Beijing, Great Olympics" was the slogan Beijing used during its successful bid for the 2008 Games.

"One World, One Dream" was selected from more than 210,000 entries received from around the world, the official Xinhua news agency said.

"It conveys the noble ideal of people in Beijing as well as in China to share their civilization and create a bright future hand in hand with people from the rest of the world," said Liu Qi, president of BOCOG.

ONE of anything always makes me suspect we'll be hearing the "Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Fuehrer!" crap again, but this time in Chinese.

"Hear, O Israel! The Lord is God, the Lord is One."

The reverse of that is, "Hear, O Israel, people are many, and people are not God."

We (people) are not meant to be "one" or God. He has that job well in hand.

Well, at least they're honest about it. When they start marching 10 or 20 years from now we won't be able to say that we were taken by surprise.

"'One World, One Dream' slogan for China's 2008 Olympics"

...reminds me of the "One China" policy to destroy Taiwan and continue to take control of more ocean routes.

"One World Under China." ...and our business interests in China: "To heck with tomorrow. How much did we get today?"

"One World, One Dream, One Empire"

...I seem to recall hearing something similar to that in the past: "ein reich, ein volk, ein fuerher".

Given that China is a fascist state it would still fit...
