A booby-trapped dog targeting a police patrol exploded in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk Sunday, injuring one police office, police said.
Sources in the oil-rich city said the dog was apparently drugged and blew up as a police patrol was passing on a main road in eastern Kirkuk.
Insurgents have previously used animals pulling carts in targeted attacks against the U.S.-led forces in the country as well as human suicide bombings.
The sources said another police patrol was targeted in the same area just two minutes after the dog exploded, injuring two officers.
Three suicide attacks, mortar fire and shooting incidents Sunday killed at least 41 Iraqis and injured scores more, mostly in the northern city of Mosul.
Most of the casualties were Iraqi police officers.

Yesterday a pick up truck full of watermelons exploded. The bomb was in the bed under the watermelons. The suicide bomber and a few Iraqi police got killed.

Maybe we should think about secreting a remote-controlled explosive device on a captured terrorist, perhaps in his clothing, then turning him loose to go back to where his terrorist buddies are hanging out. I would pay a little for footage of that.

Hm. Based on my dog, you can't necessarily blame direct action by terrorists. The damn dog might have just eaten the explosives and triggering mechanism on it's own.

There will always be murderers. We have them here in the USA, people who kill and do horrible things for no reason. The thing will be to cut it down as much as possible, to see to it that the Iraqi military and police are able to go after these guys, and eventually this will die down. But nobody is ever going to get rid of nutbags who kill. The thing is, they are now recruiting dogs because they're having a hard time recruiting human beings.
