'Today' OKs Gay Weddings Gay marriage may still be a subject of hot debate elsewhere in the country, but NBC's Today show has decided, with some outside prodding, where it stands: Same-sex vows are fine with them. For six years, the show has been running a series that offers an on-air wedding to couples willing to let viewers help select details down to the honeymoon location. One stipulation: “This opportunity is open only to currently engaged couples consisting of a male and a female.”
After inquiries from gay-rights activists and an article last week in The Advocate, the policy was changed at week's end. A Today spokeswoman explains that the show has always strived to have the winning couple get legally married on the show. Previous weddings had taken place in New York or Anguilla, where local laws bar gay marriages, but this year's contest is about “hometown” weddings—which might take place where gay weddings are permitted, notably Massachusetts.

According to accepted statistics there are something like 4,300,000 Gays and Lsbians in the US. To date around 525,000 have died from AIDS. The majority homosexuals. It can be argued that homosexuals who engaged in intravenous drug use likely spread the disease into the non-homosexual population. The legacy will be that unsafe homsexual practices led to the wide distribution of the virus that now decimates poorer countries.

First, let me state unequivocally that I DO NOT CARE what people do in the privacy of their own homes. I support the notion that you want to live your life in a way that makes you happy. You know, that whole "pursuit of" thing. In fact, in this great country that's a concept that I and many others are willing to die for. But at some point, you pushed it too far. You weren't happy with your own pursuit of happiness and so you came gunning for mine.
Now you are trying to push my family into condoning or celebrating what you do in your private life. I JUST DON"T CARE. Leave us alone.
Do not force me to hold you up as some kind of paragon of virtue for whatever it is you do and watch you parade it around in public. I don't care if you are straight or gay. Just get it out of my face and away from my children and let us live in peace and oblivion. They deserve a childhood free of the complexities of sexual politics.
In fact, let my children have a childhood free from sexual discourse of any kind. They will learn soon enough. Why, why must they know everything when they are in preschool? That makes me feel violated and angry. Over an issue that I was perfectly happy to leave well enough alone. It has disastrous consequences.
I used to be able to simply avoid it. That made some mad. So you brought it into the streets, and into every form of public entertainment and discourse. I feel like you have become some sort of unhinged stalker. We have tuned out over 60% of all TV channels and TVLand was our last refuge. It is nearly too late for that. We now mostly watch old TV on DVDs. I can't even trust ads to not throw it in your face on the kids channels. It's not that we don't like YOU, it's that we don't want to be privy to your PRIVATE life.
I canceled my subscription to BH&G because it was filled with gay couples. Fine, beautiful house more power to you. I learn from many of you and always have. It's always been there. But at some point, it quit being polite. Now my kids pick it up and thumb through it and ask me questions.
If this was about love, I'd be with you on it. We should love our neighbors. We should respect our neighbors. Even when we disagree with their "lifestyles." But it's not. It's about sex and exhibitionism and predatory practices. And you can't tell me otherwise. Because if it was about love, you would be satisfied with love. You would be happy to have finally come to the end of your pursuit of happiness. But you got there and discovered you aren't happy, so now you are trying to blame it on me.
So, one more time. STAY OUT OF MY FACE. If you are secure in your lifestyle, you don't need my approval. If you need my blessing for whatever you are doing with those you love, you have bigger problems than me.

I will never understand why these proud gays insist that everyone openly embrace and approve of their "lifestyle". If they're so secure and happy, why should they care what anyone else thinks of them.
The fact of the matter is, gays have the right to do whatever they want in the privacy of their own homes, and no one will care. But they don't want privacy, they want everyone to acceptance and governmental endorsement.
