No, but it will cost the Republicans the 2008 election. A popular Republican leaving will usher another Republican in. Look at Papa Bush, or even Mayor Mike Bloomberg who followed Rudy Guiliani into the job.

Frequently they "cook" polls. They ask more Dems than Reps or they ask them biased questions.

Pew poll made by Princeton Survey Research found that:
68% Americans have a favorable view of Network television news such as ABC, NBC and CBS.

the opinions for
"Large nationally influential newspapers such as the New York Times and the Washington Post" were: 38% favorable, 25% unfavorable and 35% "can't rate".

for Cable News, such as Fox, CNN and MSNBC, approval was 67%

This is what separates Bush from recent Presidents - he knows political capital expires worthless, unless it is spent. Spending capital EQUALS lower approval ratings. I admire him - though I don't always agree with his decisions.

Clinton lived for approval ratings and never spent them to accomplish any great thing and his Presidency expired worthless.

You pick which you'd prefer.

Funny, there was a poll here on FR about this very subject, and a thread about a biased poll taken by a MSM outlet...

What these huckster pollsters never mention is that a good many Bush supporters also "disapprove" of his performance. They'd like to see him be tougher, more conservative, and speak out more often against the Dems.

As far as approval of the way he's fighting the war, this is rather silly because few Americans ever "approve" of a war during times of rough going. Had Americans been exposed to today's media ideologues during various periods of WWII, approval would have been just a low.

But, in any event, as Rush put it, media opinion polls are simply disguised editorials. The methods they use are often quite questionable and there is a built-in liberal bias because people tend to respond the way they think the pollster wants them to.
