Massive FLorida FReep Needed To Protect Dead Soldier's Family From Freaks During His Funeral
multiple, Bos Herald, WCVB, St. Pete Times, | MB-26

Posted on 06/29/2005 4:07:34 PM PDT by MindBender26

This is a vanity post, but trust me, a well sourced one. (I'm an old network newsie and have about 8 more good sources on this than Rather had for his typeface fiasco.)

Here are the details:

A SF SGT E-5, James Stewart, will be buried in St. Petersburg, Florida on July 4, 2005. It's wholly appropriate that he be buried on our nation's birthday, because Sergeant Stewart gave his life for our country.... and all of us.

He was killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb, call an IED in MilSpeak. IED is short for "Improvised Explosive Device." It can be an old artillery shell wired to an electric blasting cap or just some explosives and a few pounds of rusty nails for shrapnel. They are nasty, and they are killing our men and women in Iraq.

His family has had time to get ready for the trauma of his funeral, but there is no way they can be ready for the latest insult to both his memory and all that is civilized.

A Topeka, Kansas freak has announced plans to disrupt the burial with chants, bull horns and signs that read, "Thank God for IEDs" "God Hates America," "This Soldier Is In Hell," and "God Wanted This Soldier Dead."

This is not a sick joke. The following is exurpted from a story on WCVB in Boston:

"A Marblehead soldier who was killed in Afghanistan is scheduled to be laid to rest, but a group from Kansas is expected to try to disrupt the services and police are on alert for any problems. Staff Sgt. Christoper Piper, 43, served in both Afghanistan and Iraq and was awarded a bronze star for his combat service."

"(The protesters) claim U.S. soldiers like Piper are dying because the country is being punished for its tolerance of what they see as immoral behavior, such as homosexuality. The group protested several weeks ago in Dracut and Lexington, Mass., carrying signs depicting homosexual sex, handing our leaflets with the message "Thank God for IEDs"

One little girl wrote them (the "protesters") regarding the pain they caused another dead soldier's family.

The protesters wrote back "We serve God; not your vulgar dumb ass. So we don’t care less what you think. We have one goal: publish. We’ve accomplished that goal with you. Have a nice day" (end of letter)

I would name names of these bastards and link to pictures of their vile signs, but JimRob doesn;t want it on FR. I agree with his position. Trust me, they are beyond belief.

These creeps are "protesting" at Sgt. Stewart's funeral at the Park Street Baptist Church, 3901 Park Street North (Park and 39th Ave North, about a mile south of Tyrone Mall) at 11:00 AM on Monday the 4th.

Since they want publicity, they will be there early for the cameras.

There will only be a few of them (they usually fly in from Kansas, but be on the lookout for vehicles with Kansas license plates.)

At some of their prior sick protests, vets and others were able to "convince" the sickos to vacate the area before the family arrived. This is not a call for violence, but I'm sure many of us can be very convincing when we see signs like these.

If any of us really give a damn about the men and women currently serving in harm's way, then this is the least we can do to support them and their families.

Sgt. Stewart volunteered to pay the ultimate price for our freedom. What are we willing to do for him?

These Kansas freaks did not attend any of Terri Schiavo's Vigils.

Maybe that's a good thing, had they picketed with "God is punishing America with new age euthanasia" or some such thing, they would have (gasp, youknowwhoforbid) helped the anti euthanasia cause. No they just want to be a colossal bloody nuisance that, if they can help it, helps nothing. Just like Satan does.

You got that right. The ADL is a very scary organization, and I would tend to disbelieve anything they wrote.

Make your case against the ADL and I'll debate you about it.

I don't think their vices even rise to the level of debatability. Whatever nobility their first vision had, they are now going to the same hell in the same handbasket as the Southern Poverty Law Center is. When a group comes out in favor of "gay rights" (in the sense of governmentally enforced privileges) they have certifiedly gone off the deep end. Dr. Martin Luther King would be ashamed.

Phelps and his Pukeyview 'Baptist' Church have a deservedly vile reputation. In pegging them, the ADL proves that even a stopped clock is right twice a day. But "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is not a motto to trust here.

The protest has been canceled

Planned funeral protest
apparently canceled

Friday, July 1, 2005
A radical
preacher
had planned
to disrupt a
local
soldier's
funeral on
Monday,
the Fourth
of July.

The Rev. Fred Phelps, pastor of Westboro Baptist
Church in Kansas, and some followers planned to
be at the funeral of Sgt. James Stewart, who died
last week in Iraq. Stewart spent most of his
boyhood in St. Petersburg and his mother still lives
there.

Phelps and his followers believe that the deaths of
American soldiers is God's retribution for society's
acceptance of gay Americans. They have been
travelling the country for several weeks, conducting
protests at soldier's funerals.

The minister's
plan outraged
many, including
some local radio
DJs. Those DJs
say they've found a way to keep the protestors
away.

The DJs on the Big Boys morning show on 98
Rock saw the Bay News 9 story, and they called a
spokesperson for the protestors, Shirley Phelps.

Puddin' and
Phatty, as the DJs
are known, cut a
deal -- air time
for a family's
peace.

"We were talking on the air," Phatty said. "And I
said 'What can we do to have you not come to our
city to not do this, to let the family mourn in peace.'
"

"She wanted a platform," Puddin' said.

"She wanted airtime without us yelling back at her,"
Phatty said.

"I tell you how I would come down," Phelps
answered. "Let me answer the question. I won't
come down if you allow me to speak without being
interrupted."

So for 45 minutes the DJs asked Phelps questions,
and did not interrupt her answers.

By the end of the show, Phelps said the protest
was off. They would not come to St. Petersburg.

Stewart's funeral, to be held Monday at Park
Street Baptist Church at 11 a.m., is open to the
public.

That's great because this group of thugs would not have liked what would have been waiting for them.

If freepers feel compelled to protect a military family from this group, they must be extremists and we were holding a Vigil for Terri, not something radical or over the top per Terri's blood relatives.

The Kansas extremists imo would have made things worse for those praying and talking to the media. The police would have loved to take everyone away in a paddy wagon for Auschwitz Woodside.

Oh, I mean they would have actually stirred up some colorful public commentary had they did their "America is heading to hell" thing at a Terri vigil. Kind of like a peacock in a flock of sparrows.

Just got back from the funeral.Big turnout.Church pkng lot was full as was the Walgreens next door.Police and media were there also, but kept their distance.Very quiet+orderly. No hassles.About a dozen or so of us stayed outside to keep an eye out.A member of LoneBikers(not 100% sure about name)was handing out yellow ribbons for mourners to wear.We ran out to Bay Pines Cemetary ahead of the funeral, and again no protestors.

My guess is that the organizers could not afford the bus ticket from Kansas, and could not find anyone from Florida who would pick up the torch.

God bless you and your friends for going to the funeral and keeping an eye out. It was a very kind thing to do for the family of this American hero.

Thank you all so very much.
