Illegal Aliens with Hazmat CDLs Arrested

Dept. of Homeland Security's U.S. Immigration and Custom's Enforcement (ICE) officials reported arresting an illegal alien who was driving gasoline trucks for Exxon in Maryland, as well as six illegal aliens in Illinois who had also been issued state commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) with hazardous materials endorsements.

The gasoline truck driver, a Pakistan national identified as Mansoor Hassan, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Baltimore on six counts of making false statements about his citizenship to work for different gas companies. (?date) In 1996, Hasaan had been ordered by an Immigration Judge to voluntarily leave the U.S. He defied the order and instead obtained a fraudulent CDL in Maryland, according to ICE officials.

The Illinois arrests were thanks to a joint investigation conducted by ICE, the Social Security Administration's Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, and the Illinois Secretary of State Police. Like the arrest in Maryland, they followed previous enforcement actions in Maryland, Michigan and Florida in which more than 100 individuals were arrested in connection with fraud schemes that enabled illegal aliens to obtain valid CDLs, hazardous materials endorsements, and/or diver's licenses through various state Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

"This cooperative law enforcement effort has closed a security vulnerability that might have resulted in dire consequences," Elissa Brown, Special Agent-in-Charge of the ICE Chicago Office of Investigations said in a news release. "This is a national security issue. Illegal aliens should not have the freedom to transport hazardous materials throughout the United States."

Separately, ICE provided an update to its earlier driver's license crackdown in Florida announced in late April. According to ICE, it resulted in numerous arrests, including those of three Florida Dept. of Motor Vehicles examiners and five "middlemen" who are accused of having issued licenses to more than 2,000 illegal aliens for a fee, includiCDLs, and hazmat-hauling endorsements.

See Gaps in CDL integrity.

To date, more than 100 people have been arrested in Florida and 21 illegal aliens identified as having obtained Florida CDLs. ICE said the CDLs are believed to have been sold for between $1,500 and $3,000, while driver's licenses went for between $100 and $200.

Among the illegal aliens who had obtained CDL's and hazmat endorsements, ICE reports that some had past criminal records, including driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, resisting arrest, burglary, battery, weapons charges and drug charges. According to preliminary information from the Florida Highway Patrol, at least 11 auto accidents have also been linked to those arrested, none of whom had the training required to operate a commercial vehicle.

Theere was an accident near here some time ago involving an illegal alien driving a semi. The guy was from Eastern Europe and could bearly speak English. He ran a stop sign and hit a car, killing a family. I don't recall that it was HazMat though, but it was still horrible. He had been hired by some company in Nevada. They claimed they didn't know he was illegal and he had his CDL. He had to have an interpreter for his arrest and trial. So how did he get a CDL?

CDL is a tough license to get. They have to at least speak and read English.

You know, maybe they're right about illegals doing jobs Americans don't want - I don't think Americans WANT to park loaded gasoline tankers adjacent to buildings and detonate them. That's a job we just won't do!

The outrage at the lie. These leeches are beginning to take jobs Americans DO WANT TO DO. I'd love to get a job working in the oilfield, manufacturing, etc., but illegals have a lot of those jobs tied up.

There is a driving test. The officer might notice if the applicant didn't understand commands. The written test is not easy. You are expected to know quite a bit. It's possible to get around almost anything, though, if someone doesn't play by the rules.

My ex drove for 20 years and he had his HazMat. But he did tell me that he knew of at least one company that had paid off people so their drivers could get the HazMat cert. They were caught and everyone involved was prosecuted. But that is still really frightening.

The gasoline truck driver, a Pakistan national

The utter stupidity of giving a gasoline truck CDL - HAZMAT license to a FOREIGN NATIONAL, no matter what their credentials state is appalling to me. It's akin to giving one of these licenses to Mohammed Atta (before 9/11). How the &@99 do they know the intent of these people? Freaking incredible. All this guy needs is a pack of matches and a place to light them next to a "designated delivery site".

Wow. Unbelievable that even in the face of these reports still little or nothing is done about our security. They caught 6 out of thousands.

That's a job we just won't do!

That depends on whether there's another attack against us or not.... Americans do get angry when their buttons are pushed - it just depends on how angry they make people (and by the way, I wouldn't want to be one of "them" if it happens again!). Guess in that case, we'd be watching the borders to make sure they don't get out!

Yes it does get more insane as time go's by.

Something urgent needs to be done about our border situation.

Had these illegals been stopped an turned away according to law then hundreds of thousands of dollars and many law enforcement hours would not have been necessary to clear up loop holes in our laws.

" Don't give me that BS about them doing jobs Americans won't."

I agree with you completely, rllngrk33.

Exactly what are the jobs Americans won't do? Are we talking: food service, office cleaning, ditch digging, construction...?

Hey, La Raza, MecHa and Presidente Vincente Fox! The jobs listed above are all of the gigs I worked before I graduated from college. Piss Off!

To get the hazmat endorsement these days you need to submit your fingerprint, this corruption stinks, but thanks to NAFTA everyone who wants to drive in the USA can just go thru our friend Mexico and not have to wait or pay as much.

ICE agents in Florida have arrested more than 100 individuals, including 3 Florida Department of Motor Vehicles examiners, 5 middlemen, and a large number of illegal aliens, in a massive driver's license fraud scheme that was first announced in April 2005. The three Florida DMV employees were accused of providing valid driver's licenses, commercial licenses and HAZMAT licenses, to more than 2,000 illegal aliens for a fee

Old story. At least some of the DMV employees are quite possibly illegal aliens as well. This is a massive security loophole. In my CA days, I distinctly remember the DMV employees conducting business in Spanish, as well as their private behind-the-counter conversations .
