Saddam's Iraq Was Motel 6 for Terrorists
NewsMax ^ | 6/30/06

In the wake of President Bush's speech to the nation Tuesday night, Democrats are complaining that he talked too much about 9/11, falsely implying that Iraq was a terrorist threat.

Too bad Mr. Bush didn't cite the mountain of evidence proving that Iraq under Saddam Hussein was a veritable Motel 6 for the world's worst terrorists - a gang of mass murderers who had killed hundreds of Americans - well before the U.S. invaded.

According to a report last year by the Hudson Institute, the short list of terrorists laying low in Iraq would include:

• Abu Nidal. Before Osama bin Laden arrived on the scene, Nidal was the world's most notorious terrorist. His terror gang is credited with dozens of attacks that killed over 400 people, including 10 Americans. He also threatened to kill Lt. Col. Oliver North.

Abu Nidal moved to Baghdad in 1999, where he was found shot to death in Aug 2002. Rumors swirled at the time that Nidal was rubbed out by Iraqi intelligence because he knew too much about Saddam's terrorist activities.

• Abu Abbas. Abbas masterminded the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship, where wheelchair-bound American Leon Klinghoffer was pushed over the side to his death. U.S. troops captured Abbas in Baghdad on April 14, 2003. He died in U.S. custody last year.

• Abdul Rahman Yasin. Yasin was Ramzi Yousef's partner in the 1993 World Trade Center bomb plot, aiding the al Qaeda explosives mastermind in prepariing the bomb that killed six New Yorkers and wounded 1,000.

In 1996, an ABC News reporter spotted Yasin outside his government owned house in Baghdad. The key WTC 1993 co-conspirator remains at large.

• Khala Khadar al-Salahat. Al-Salahat, a top Palestinian deputy to Abu Nidal, reportedly furnished Libyan agents with the Semtex explosive used to blow up Pan Am Flight 103 in December 1988. The attack killed all 259 passengers, including 189 Americans. Al-Salahat was in Baghdad April 2003 when he was taken into custody by U.S. Marines.

• Abu Musab al Zarqawi. Zarqawi was training terrorists in Afghanistan for an attack on the U.S. embassy in Jordan when the U.S. defeated the Taliban, forcing him to flee. He relocated to Iraq, where he set up terrorist cells in the Northern part of the country.

In an indication that he enjoyed the status of guest of the state, Zarqawi was reportedly treated for a leg wound at one of Saddam's exclusive private hospitals.

After years of media reports denying that Zarqawi had ties to al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden himself dubbed Zarqawi his chief of operations in Iraq last year.

Saddam was the ATM to the terrorists and considered OBL an intelligence asset, according to documents seized in Iraq.

He didn't cite these things, because that's our job to help circulate them. --Our job, Hannity's/O'Reilly's/RUSH's/news media/other journalists' job to bring this out as part of their "investigation" process. That way, it means more, and carries more weight with the American people.

When a fact is presented, and then substantiated/corroborated, it's part of that slow absorbtion process for the American public, that helps the truth to stick in their minds longer.

If all the facts do not come from one source, the information has more credibility.

Peach, I thought you might also be interested in these images of paintings coalition troops discovered in Iraq when viewed in context with the 1994-95 Iraqi statements below:

In the fall of 1994, Baghdad's official press, in essence, threatened that Saddam might use his remaining unconventional agents, biological and chemical, for terrorism in America, or in missiles delivered against his enemies in the region if and when he became fed up with sanctions.

Al-Quds al-Arabi, a London paper financed by Baghdad and close to the Iraqi regime, cautioned: "Iraq still has options. But they are all destructive options. Yet if the Americans continue to humiliate them, they will have no option but to bring the temple down on everyone's head."

General Wafiq Samarrai, former head of Iraqi military intelligence, predicted that Iraq would not give up any more unconventional agents. Instead, Saddam would probably employ them for blackmail and brinkmanship to get sanctions lifted. And failing that, he would use them.

"Tell the allies that they have to destroy Iraq's biological agents before Saddam can use them." Iraq could attack its neighbors by missile, or America through terrorism. The United Stares might retaliate with nuclear weapons, but by then "the disaster will already have happened", Samarrai warned in a 1995 telephone interview with Laurie Mylroie.

The people who can't grasp this or just don't get it, never will. They get too easily confused by such things as facts.

Saddam's PR machine, the western and US press is hard at work, rewriting history, no, erasing the entire decade of the 90's.

Amazing, someone needs to fight back.

You could also add 07, 08 ,09, etc in the date and the story will still be the same.
Democrats and the fossil media will still be treating 9/11 and the WOT like a vampire does a cross.
Jay Rockefeller and the other Democrats shrieking yesterday about President Bush mentioning 9/11 validated every word out of Karl Rove's mouth and then some.
Every time one of these Democrat tweaks rushs to the microphone to slam the WOT and President Bush , a terrorist smiles and another soldier's life is endangered.
And they damn well know it.

That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. Rather than have the president himself, with all of his authority and access to the international media, make the case, get the truth out by using radio/TV political entertertainers who are only listened to by a select niche audience. Great strategy.

And just why do you suppose the president, after almost 4 years after 9/11, doesn't make that case? Because he can't. Do you really think the WH is unaware of all of this supposedly great evidence? That only FReepers have it? If the WH could go with it, they would. The fact that they don't go with it means that they can't. This type of talk is just people on websites talking to themselves.

Great article, this is about the sixth I've read since W's speech on Tuesday.

But all you see/hear on the MSM (which is how most people get their news info) is the Dim's constant iteration of the "No Link Lie."

So how do we get this info onto the MSM?

I am just so discouraged... the media in this country is going to destroy us all. They are like sucking insects sapping our will to live.

Even people I like and respect are being affected by the drip-drip-drip of the media BS. It is not good for the future of this country. It is so wrong.
