After 1965, America began its downward spiral.

Aaakkk!!! They were right. It *was* rock n roll! I pretty much agree with your timing.

Both stunning and powerful - thanks so much for posting this.

The ending brought a tear to my eye because in all honesty I must admit that I am no longer optimistic about the future of our country.

It hurts to say such things but it is the truth.

I remember these two: the Misery Index and when Michael Jackson was black

bimbo eruption.

I'd bet there are several on this site old enough to remember those from the Clinton years (God help us if there are any more).

Charlite, you make some great posts. Keep up the good work!

I am always fascinated to talk to the elders; I've found a keen interest in first-hand experience with history, like the old man I chatted with who told me he remembered his dad actually driving herds of cattle to Fort Worth from West Texas.

Or my own maternal grandmother - b. 1901, d. 2001. The stories she told kept me riveted to my chair.

Yessir, no ma'm are so automatic to me- I've been pegged more than once- "you're from the south aren't you?" I'm over 40 and still refuse to call "elders" by their first name withou precluding it with Mr. or Miz. I'm not much on kids calling adults by their first name!

This guy is an old-timer, I tried to enjoy what he had to say, but 30, at least 30 times, he used the word "that", and most of them were unnecessary. I do the same thing when I write..........I hate it, I'm trying to break the habit, and excuse me, I just had to get "that" off my chest.
