Iran's new president declares worldwide 'Islamic revolution'
World Tribune ^ | Thursday, June 30, 2005 | SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM

Posted on 06/30/2005 10:30:49 PM PDT by truth_seeker

Iran's president-elect has proclaimed an Islamic revolution of global proportions.

Mahmood Ahmadinejad said his election coincided with what he termed a new Islamic revolution.

"The wave of the Islamic revolution will soon reach the entire world," Ahmadinejad said. "In one night, the martyrs strode down a path of 100 years." Ahmadinejad, who did not elaborate, was speaking to the families of those killed in a 1981 attack at the headquarters of the Islamic Republic Party, Middle East Newsline reported.

The Teheran mayor has served as a senior commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, responsible for the nation's missile and nuclear weapons programs, and has been identified as a suspect in the killing of Kurdish dissidents in Europe in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The 49-year-old Ahmadinejad, who participated in the takeover of the U.S. embassy in Teheran, in 1979, was regarded as the most anti-Western of the presidential candidates. On June 24, he defeated Hashemi Rafsanjani, a former president who headed the Expediency Council, the regime's watchdog over what had been a reformist-dominated parliament. "Thanks to the blood of the martyrs, a new Islamic revolution has arisen and the Islamic revolution of 1384 [the current Iranian year] will, if God wills, cut off the roots of injustice in the world," Ahmadinejad was quoted by the official Iranian news agency as saying. "The era of oppression, hegemonic regimes, tyranny and injustice has reached its end."

The speech marked the first time since the late 1980s that an Iranian president vowed to export Islamic insurgency throughout the world. Allies of Ahmadinejad said the president-elect, who takes office in August, would seek to revive the principles of the Islamic revolution in 1978. They said Ahmadinejad would also seek to impose Islamic behavior in public, including strict enforcement of a dress code.

"Islamic and revolutionary culture have been neglected in the past years," Iranian parliamentarian Mohammad Taqi Rahbar said.

Iran has been cited as the leading financier of groups that appear on the U.S. State Department list of terrorist organizations. Iran's leading clients have been the Hizbullah in Lebanon and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, both sponsored by Teheran, as well as Hamas and the Syrian-aligned Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command.

If it showed even a glimpse of her elephantine (elephantic?) ankles...I can't even watch that with mute on without getting sick...

I'm referring to a real burka, not a token vacation trip trinket one might expect to find at "Wall Drug" or somewhere of the like.

Ankles aren't allowed for showing for the true burka wearers.

The last battle of WWII, Okinawa, lasted 83 days. In that battle the US deployed more forces, and suffered many more deaths than we have thus far in WWIII. Look at these tables:

You know, I would have to say imo, the last battle of WWII was Nagasaki, it lasted about 83 seconds. We suffered no casualties and the enemy surrendered. If we would have had the A bomb earlier, we would have nuked Okinawa.

The war on terror is being fought with the same rules and mindset as Vietnam and not WW2.

We continue to allow the enemy terrorists that kill our troops in Iraq to have sanctuaries in Iran and Syria, just like Laos and Cambodia, except in Nam, at least our Presidents then had the cojones to bomb them, but for some god foresaken reason, not President Bush.

It took us less than 4 years to beat tens of millions of professional German and Japanese troops, and thousands of their planes and tanks and ships, and their economies which were mobilized for war, and we did it with draftees(Which by the way did an outstanding job and I think they'd do well in the future too). Yet, in almost the same amount of time, almost 4 years, President Bush hasn't even been able to defeat a bunch of punks with RPGs.

I have to say, we are taking things way to slowly. All this talk of bringing freedom to Iraqis and Afghanis, to me, is not relevant. We brought freedom to the Germans and the Japanese too. We did it against a much more powerful foe and at a time when we were unprepared for war and the Japanese had hurt us significantly at Pearl Harbor. We brought freedom to them quicker because we fought them harder.

It seems, though, that nowadays, we are being led to believe that only by being kinder gentler and compassionate will the muslim world grasp and accept the concept of democracy and individual freedom. Yet the intolerant religion of Islam is still going to be the STATE RELIGION of Iraq.

I say, that the Japanese population and many Germans were as fanatical as muslims are today. We convinced them then, not by being nice and slow, but by being brutal and quick. I suggest the same approach today before its too late and we wake up one morning and Syria and Iran have atomic weapons too.

Ahmadinejad: The REAL face of terror. Just ask the American hostages who spent 444 days under him and his cohorts. Can't think of a better reason to stop all talks with Iran, ban all trade with them and get our allies to do the same. Stiff economic sanctions and a little harrassment on human rights violations at the UN for starters. Next, send in an army of well armed pigs..... Hell, we should try this son of a bitch for crimes against humanity....

I couldn't agree with you more. I have been arguing with my liberal acquaintances (difficult to say friends)...my argument is usually as follows:

The difference in approach between liberals and conservatives is love vs power. Liberals believe that Love is the universal language. If we spend enough time trying to understand our fellow man, they'll do the right thing. I think this is not realistic enough. No honest person can tell me they aren't (due to human nature) competitive. Who wants to be equals? Everyone wants to be #1. Therefore, power - usually in the form of violence unfortunately is the one true universal language.

The power-centric approach is in line with the "speak softly and carry a big stick", "trust but verify", and now the Bush Doctrine. We have to, in the same line as being cordial, constantly remind them we mean business and are prepared to unleash devastating violence if we are crossed.

In WW2, the Germans literally believed they were the master race, DNA in their every cell deserved world domination. How do you negotiate with that? Same thing in Japan - they were convinced they were racially superior. How do you negotiate with that deep seeded position? How do you 'reset' that way of thinking to something more workable? And aren't these religious fanatics similar in their conviction?

The only way you "argue" with that is by letting these depraved people know the sheer futility and inevitable failure of that way of thinking. That behavior will lead to but one end, their painful and total destruction. Unfortunately, we can't be as clear as a nuclear bomb in terms of absolute, irrefutable power resetting misguided ideals in this conflict (although Iran introduces new possibilities for that kind of display). Can you imagine how quickly these theocratic leaders would lose their so-called popular support if the choice was between actively supporting the party line and being vaporized as a result OR actively rising up and removing those deviants from power? I would give them 30 seconds before we saw their population turn on their leaders.

Its all well and good when they're just talking about the great Satan, etc, but if one single action should be taken to act on their misguided view of the world as a state government, our response should be swift, result in their utter and complete defeat - and irrefutably demonstrate the futility of a terrorist course of action.

I think the time for speaking softly is over. We mean business. Bring on our 'big stick'!

Thomas,.....patience....we have a problem at home......

See this:

Unholy Alliance
by David Horowitz
Regnery Publishing, Inc.; ISBN: 089526076X
Hardcover - 256 pages (September 2004)

In this tour de force on the most important issue of our time, David Horowitz, confronts the paradox of how so many Americans, including the leadership of the Democratic Party, could turn against the War on Terror. He finds an answer in a political Left that shares a view of America as the “Great Satan” with America’s radical Islamic enemies. This Left, which once made common cause with Communists, has now joined forces with radical Islam in attacking America’s defenses at home and its policies abroad. From their positions of influence in the university and media culture, leftists have defined America as the “root cause” of the attacks against it. In a remarkable exploration of the “Mind of the Left,” Horowitz traces the evolution of American radicalism from its Communist past to its “anti-war” present. He then shows how this Left was able to turn the Democratic Party presidential campaign around and reshape its views on the War on Terror.

Horowitz’s Unholy Alliance, writes John Haynes, the noted historian of American Communism, “is an insightful, brilliant examination of the mental world of the radical left. Horowitz shows how today’s radicals, unwilling to reflect on the internal flaws that destroyed Marxism-Leninism from within, have embraced an all-consuming nihilism in its place. This has led them to a hatred of American institutions and a solidarity with Islamic terrorists that makes the radical left more properly regarded as dangerous than loony.”

Unholy Alliance is an eye-opening book that should unsettle conventional assumptions and reveals why intellectuals and political leaders who applaud Michael Moore are no laughing matter. As Harvey Klehr, author of Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America, writes, “The world Communist movement may be moribund, but its habits of mind and ideological fantasies have not disappeared. This is a fascinating and depressing account.”

"The war on terror is being fought with the same rules and mindset as Vietnam and not WW2."

Watching cspan convinces me that our top generals and admirals spend most of their time before congressional committees, instead of plotting quick and decisive military victories.

I agree with bin Laden; that we are now in WWIII. Credit Bush for mentioning that, for I think we'll hear it again.

Inspite of all his detractors, FDR seemed aware it would come to all out war for the US, and he moved with that in mind.

But the public didn't favor our involvement until Pearl Harbor. Why we fail to recognize 9/11/2001 as the exact equivalent escapes me.

In our conduct of WWII we held to minimizing civilian deaths, EXCEPT where it held strategic value.

We firebombed Dresden and nuked Japan for "shock and awe." It worked in the latter; failed in the former.

Islam needs whackin pretty soon. Don't know the time or place, but they keep beggin and the time and place will make itself clear, imo.

It is a target rich environment. Our efforts to date should be read by reasonable foes that we will respond.

Another 9/11/2001 type attack might be the catalyst.

This guy may be a setup to discredit democracy in the middle east. The mullahs can take him out of the picture with a bunch of blather about how people can't be trusted to vote for the best man.

Then they go back to the IAEA and say that they are entirely in compliance now that the "moderates" are back in control.

As clever as the guys at the top are.....I am thinking that may just be the game.....they are very calculating!!!!

They know we do have an excess of Nuclear Weapons.....and they do not!!!

And this President elect is giving us a Very Severe Case of Itchy Trigger Finger....

CBS Up to the Minute News seemed to just identiy the wrong guy, too, speaking with a former hostage who indicated he would never make a mistake. The former hostage seemed to pick the guy in the circle, not he guy on the right. Other film looks more like the guy on the right. And other former hostages have stated they know him and came to the conclusion on their own. I wish they would pick which guy it is.

I agree it more likely seems like the guy on the right.

Well.... Dresden and Tokyo both were firebombed and those bombings did not end the war. But, it might be that maybe the one bomb/one city/one mushroom visual, was more convincing.

All though to support your point, the first mushroom didn't do the job. Multiple vanishing cities, one after the other, in quick succession seems to be the winning ticket on this.

You know, it may sound hideous and brutal, but if ISLAM gets nukes, and Pakistan already has them..... well better them than us while we still have the upper hand. Sooner or later, every country will have nukes or something worse, when that day comes, can we aford to have a religion like Islam around?

I think when Islam uses a nuke it will be a small number of tactical strikes. Their ability to minaturize warheads, or much more likely, purchase minature nukes will be what they try, I should think. The size is already developed for tactical battlefield nukes. It's no secret scenario so I'll go ahead and say it:

If they can do it, they would strike Washington D.C. and New York financial district. Though we can evaluate the post-detonation by sniffers and determine the likely origin of the plutonium (as U-2's used to sample over Russian A-bomb tests).

This is the insanity of our wide open borders. There's no telling what cells may be operating inside right now. And the above scenario is very difficult to prevent.

A launch from an Islamic state would leave them nothing but a glowing heap. Tactical strikes, using even micronukes would have a devastating effect on the economy, oil, etc.

Of course, that's exactly the dream of the hell-bound Osama bin Laden. Of course, he won't discover that until he gets to the other side and finds out who his "god" is.

I'll have to look at see what Pakistan's smallest nuke is because I think this may be the first place they could be obtained. Imagine who will rise to power after Musharraf is gone.

"Iran's mullahs could not have been clearer in selecting this terrorist to be the international face of their country: it intends to build bombs and use them."

- This guys election and subsequent threats have cleared the last remaining hurdle that Israel needed before striking and obliterating Iran's nuclear program. Up to now, I think Israel was constrained by the false hope that the Iranian's would elect someone that could be reasoned with. No more. This fanatics aim is clear. To produce atomic weapons and deliver them to terrorists to strike at Israel and the US - not necessarily in that order.
I predict an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities within the year and (hopefully) when these kooks "retaliate" Bush will be only to happy to unleash the 150,000 troops stationed right on their border. Whose going to object - the UN, Syria, the Democrats? You can bet all three.
