I'll take this 1776 comparison seriously when the Iraqi people are left to fend for themselves in their battle for independence.

In 1776, America didn't have 100,000+ foreign troops on our soil, assisting us in our upcoming, protracted battle with the Recoats. If anything, our first patriots used insurgent tactics of hit & run and sniping of British officers (a brilliant tactic, but not along the lines of what was accepted military behavior in those days) to ultimately win, while also dealing with the British Loyalist citizens in their midst by tarring & feathering or hanging.

Yet we managed to whup their British a$$es and write our own Constitution by ourselves.

Save the "But the French helped us!!". They sent a few naval vessels to Yorktown ONLY after it was apparent that America would win independence.

Read some history. The French sent an army, that was very skilled at siege warfare ( how we won at Yorktown), a fleet that keep the British from evacuating Yorktown, were engaged with the British around the world, and supplied us with arms and money. The reason the Brits gave up was they realized they couldn't win without massive cost once the French were fully involved. As much as I despise the French, it doesn't change history.
