Operation Freedom

Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker is hosting “Operation Freedom” to recognize our Armed Forces (active duty Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserves and Veterans) and their families on Sunday, July 3rd at the Milwaukee County Zoo.  Listeners are invited to join Scott Walker, Charlie Sykes and Jeff Wagner at 11a.m. for the formal program.  Admission for the public to the “Operation Freedom” program in the south end of the Zoo parking lot is included with normal zoo admission.  Call (414) 278-4211 for general information.  Come join our members of the Armed Forces to thank them for a job well done!

 Calling All Armed Forces!

While our country continues to pursue the war against terror and military operations continue in Iraq, many troops have made the successful journey home while other troops are still being deployed.  County Executive Walker would like to invite Wisconsin military personnel – active duty, reserves, guard, veterans, and their families to attend “Operation Freedom” at no cost.  Experience an exciting day at the Milwaukee County Zoo on Sunday, July 3rd from 9am – 6pm and enjoy the following for free:  admission, parking, rides, exhibits, as well as a free picnic lunch, recognition program and entertainment.  In addition to the zoo attractions, military equipment will be displayed in the zoo parking lot.  To obtain special wristbands, which will identify qualifying Zoo patrons, please contact your veterans’ organization, reserve or active units by June 28th.   Wristbands will be available after June 28th – but will have to be picked up at Will Call at the Zoo on the day of the event.   For more information, please call the County Executive’s Office at (414) 278-4211.

 Volunteers Needed!

Would you like to volunteer at “Operation Freedom”?  We still have many opportunities for greeters, food prep workers, servers, and other areas on the day of the event.  MUST BE 21 YEARS OLD TO VOLUNTEER FOR FOOD OR BEVERAGE SERVICE.  For more information, or if you’d like to help, please call (414) 278-4211 or email dwink@milwcnty.com.

 Donations Welcome!

More than 10,000 members of the Armed Forces and their immediate families are expected to attend the “Operation Freedom” event at the Zoo on July 3rd.   The Operation Freedom event is not paid for at taxpayer expense.  Milwaukee County is grateful to all of its sponsors including Newsradio 620WTMJ.   Your donation is needed to help offset the costs associated with this event.  Make your contribution out to “Milwaukee County – Operation Freedom” and send to:  Office of the Milwaukee County Executive, Attn: Darlene Wink, Operation Freedom Coordinator, Milwaukee County Courthouse, Room 306, 901 N. 9th Street, Milwaukee, WI  53233.  Thank you in advance for your support of our troops!
