(CNSNews.com) - Liberal organizations reacted quickly and strongly to Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement on Friday, referring to her departure as creating "an ominous vacancy" that could lead to "terrible changes" on the U.S. Supreme Court.
"The battle for the Supreme Court has begun," declared a release from NARAL Pro-Choice America that featured a picture of President George W. Bush. "Don't let his choice end yours.
"Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement gives President Bush and the radical right the chance they've been waiting for to overturn Roe v. Wade," according to the group's website. "They're pulling out all the stops to push through President Bush's anti-choice judicial nominees to the Supreme Court. We cannot let it happen.
"Help save the Supreme Court from President Bush: Tell your senators to vote NO on anti-choice nominees!"
A similar call was sounded by Vicki Saporta, president and CEO of the National Abortion Federation, who urged that "Bush should choose moderation over extremism" when selecting O'Connor's successor.

I sure hope that this is going to be 'ominous' for them! Anything that makes them shake in their little booties is great with me!
Yeah. I might feel sorry for them if I weren't so busy laughing at them.
To a liberal... this is the equivalent of the Pope dying.
Didn't take long for the embracers of infant killing and their blood-industry supporters to start their shrill outbursts.
Obviously, that is not the job of the judiciary. More than any other quote in this piece, this makes absolutely clear that the left believes that the courts are there to "legislate" their agenda.
What a bunch of drama queens the liberals are.
I love it that they're so nervous about this. I hope GWB toys with them for a while over this.
Be vewy vewy afwaid.
Heheh. Yeah, that would be a lot of fun to watch.
They really need to get lives.
(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
Agreed! It's great to see them in panic-mode, and I'm sure they will be terrified when Bush's nominee is finally revealed!
But, wait a minute didn't the libs get all bent out of shape when they thought that the SC elected George Bush!!!!!!
The sweet smell of liberal panic in the morning... Ahhhhhh no matter how this turns out its fun watching liberals wet their undies over a Supreme Court vacancy!
If they're wearing any at all. You know these "freedom" types.
Dry it up sluts.
I know a few liberals who actually cried tears of sorrow when the current pope was elected.
All the fights on the Hill have been leading up to this. We ain't seen nothing yet.
Better get a pair of welding goggles because the only way the Pres. is going to get a decent nominee through the Senate is the nuclear option.
The dims are setting it up now.
I hope they lose it if Bush nominates a strict constructionist. The deep divide between 'us' & 'them' has got to come to a head sooner or later.
Two Words: Recess Appointment.
Ok, so which senate RINO's can't we count on to break the filibuster? Better put on the full court pressure NOW!
The only ominous vacancies are in the craniums of the 'Rats and their liberal/leftist accomplices in the media and in other special interest groups.
I just watched the insufferable Ellen Ratner on Fox and Friends go into "vapors" at the prospect of another Scalia or Thomas. She had the nerve to "advise" the president to nominate Joe Lieberman or George Mitchell.
If she said "vapors" once she said it ten times. Almost apopleptic when someone suggested John Cornyn. The Libs will be spewing and stuttering for the next several days and their 4th of July celebrations will be ruined. It is great to be an American.
Everything is ominous to these idiots.
The weather, the economy, the food on their table...
Gingrich/Reagan/Bush/any non-commie gets elected it is: ominous fascism...
Let's hope it is OMINOUS for them his time.
Ah yes, the wailing and gnashing of teeth, the demorilization, despondency.......... all words I love to hear when applied to the lefties.
On a serious note, I'll not get ahead of myself until I see W actually put forth conservative nominees and the pubbies in the senate doing the right thing.
Now let's see how long the vaunted McCain et al "compromise" holds up.
Craig Mitnick just said on FNC that the appointment of a SC Justice is more important the the election of the President.
Libs don't celebrate the 4th.
Their big holiday is on May 1st when they watch old newsreels of goosestepping Russians in Red Square, followed by the ICBMs on trailers.
It's also the day when they perform the annual ritual of combing out the lice from their Lenin goatees and change their Che underwear.
Yep. The democrats are going to be forced to filibuster. This will be a long fall session.
Hospitalization because of their fears.
Desperate politicians are great entertainment.
What they should say is what counts more then 52% of the vote of America-the electorial college does!
No kidding. It's like someone pressed a button...
IT'S GREAT TO BE AN AMERICAN! I love it-great context!
Quite correct. I believe Earthjustice used to be the Club Sierra Legal Defense Fund or some such.
The frikkin Democrat "liberals" are bullys and brats making demands. Too bad the Republicians don't have the guts and grit to tell them off.
Does anyone believe the O'Connor's sudden retirement might have been prompted by the public outrage over the Supreme Court's recent Public Domain decision and the public's reactive movement to seize Souter's precious farmhouse and property?
LOL. Thanks, I missed that part.
I'm hoping too, though exactly holding my breath.
The liberal establishment suffering from the vapors en masse. Too funny.
Oops, should be "NOT" holding my breath.
I half expect some brain dead Lib to start going on about the time she tore up that picture of the Pope, her bald head, and all that stuff.
Scenario I'd like to see:
Bush waits until Monday after the Europe trip and then announces that Janice Rogers Brown is the nominee. This denies the Sunday talk show bloviators a chance to get their licks in. This pick has a lot going for it. She's superbly qualified and a solid conservative. Any attempt to filibuster her nomination would cause the constitutional option to be invoked. Anything that could be said about her has already been said during the many hours of debate before her recent D.C. Circuit confirmation. And it will drive all the ankle-biting bed wetters of the left absolutely crazy!
Their opposition is no laughing matter. But I guess the 'constitutional option' will have to be played if we can keep the RINOS votes.
A split court in their favor on some issues is the only way the liberals could get their programs 'passed' by a branch of the government.
That's one of the best descriptions ever. It should be repeated every time they squeal and bellow.
Time for a Marine. Just think how the libs would luvDAT!
