MSNBC Analyst Says Cooper Documents Reveal Karl Rove as Source in Plame Case

By E&P Staff

NEW YORK Now that Time Inc. has turned over documents to federal court, presumably revealing who its reporter, Matt Cooper, identified as his source in the Valerie Plame/CIA case, speculation runs rampant on the name of that source, and what might happen to him or her. Tonight, on the syndicated McLaughlin Group political talk show, Lawrence O'Donnell, senior MSNBC political analyst, claimed to know that name--and it is, according to him, top White House mastermind Karl Rove.

Here is the transcript of O'Donnell's remarks:

"What we're going to go to now in the next stage, when Matt Cooper's e-mails, within Time Magazine, are handed over to the grand jury, the ultimate revelation, probably within the week of who his source is.

"And I know I'm going to get pulled into the grand jury for saying this but the source of...for Matt Cooper was Karl Rove, and that will be revealed in this document dump that Time magazine's going to do with the grand jury."

Other panelists then joined in discussing whether, if true, this would suggest a perjury rap for Rove, if he told the grand jury he did not leak to Cooper.

Cooper and New York Times reporter Judith Miller, held in contempt for refusing to name sources, tried Friday to stay out of jail by arguing for home detention instead after Time Inc. surrendered its reporter's notes to a prosecutor.

Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said Friday that several unidentified Senate Republicans had placed a hold on a proposed resolution declaring support for Miller and Cooper.

``Cowards!'' Lautenberg said of the Republicans. ``Under the rules, they have a right to refuse to reveal who they are. Sound familiar?''

Lautenberg's resolution is co-sponsored by Sens. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) and Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) It says no purpose is served by imprisoning Miller and Cooper and that the First Amendment guarantees freedom of the press.

You can't get more direct than Wilson's original accusation made publicly and even saying he hoped to see Rove frog-marched off to jail.

They are always this direct and I'm not buying your act.

This can't be good if true.

"And I know I'm going to get pulled into the grand jury for saying this but the source of...for Matt Cooper was Karl Rove, and that will be revealed in this document dump that Time magazine's going to do with the grand jury."

Lawrence O'Donnell was SPECULATING. He was tossing out red meat. That's what the talking heads on all these news and political gab fests do constantly. O'Donnell and his fellow travelers on the Left want Rove's head so bad they have wet dreams over it. Rove scares the you-know-what out of them because they see him as a political genius.

Whoops--I had forgotten I did ask you who you were talking about at one point and then you explained. I had figured it out in the intervening posts, hence my "I know who you were talking about" reply.

However, take a step back and think about the timeline on the various threads linked and you'll see that while it is a brazen charge, that is the dem modus and nothing new, but it is also false.

Nice move cause I'm not acting I just don't know. I want to have ammo for another board.
I was hoping like hell it would some how be tied to the Kerry campign.Since Kerry and Wilson were close.
Also you would think that O'Donnel would be in deep shit for making those comments like that.
Its just a little above me thats all.no act.

This isn't true and its going to be really funny when the truth comes out.

For this to be true you'd have to believe these leftist reports would be shielding Carl Rove in the face of jail.

Were it Rove they'd have made a mad dash to report this day one and "get the scoop".

My prediction is that it was the womans husband who dropped the dime on her.

And what are you saying should happen to Rove if he is guilty?

He should be promoted.

Um the same Lawrence O'Donnell that screamed "Creepy Liar" at the Swift Vote vet founder when he was on an MSNBC show. And the Same deranged lunatic O'Donell that told this same PBS "News" show that after Bush's reelection that there was a real possiblity of the Blue States spliting off from the United States and joining Canada?

Finally, does anyone remember that O'Donell's ONLY qualification as a "political analysis" is as a script writer for the far left TV show "West Wing"?

Dream on loony tunes Left. Dream on.....

The libs will have a field day with this one.
The CIA woman to my knowledge is not an agent so what is the big deal, isn't she a office person?

Hard to believe that Rove would not admit it to begin with!!!!!!!!! This story is weird.

Seems to me you really want to believe this lunacy. Could it be you are hiding your real political affiliations in order to spread Hysteric Leftist propaganda. Again, Consider your "source"

Does anyone think for a minute that Time would have protected Rove? Does anyone find is suspicious that Cooper is declining to testify, saying that his notes should be sufficient? Make him testify to the truth of the notes. This sounds like a set up.

ODONNELL IS A CREEPY LIAR!

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/09/29/novak.cia/

"Wilson at one point suggested that senior Bush adviser Karl Rove could have been behind the leak, which the White House denied. He backed off that assertion somewhat Monday, accusing Rove of at least condoning it."

Even JOE WILSON admitted it wasn't Rove - in 2003!

IMO, Rove has been around politics way too long to be dumb enough to do something like this.

This is another Democrat "gotcha" that's going to fall flat....I hope.

I wish I thought this would be the final nail in O'Donnell's credibility.

The final nail in O'Donnell's credibility occurred the day he signed a contract to be a political analyst for MSNBC. and don't let me get started on the syndicated McLaugh In Group.

No,no,no..I didn't know who this guy is.Now I know he is another Katrina Vonfrankenstein on steroids...Don't worry I'm one of the good guys.I'm hoping the whole thing is tied to the Kerry campaign, he is the biggest fraud in politics and this whole thing sounds like one of his diversion moves.
Matter of fact I'm going to use your quote on O'Donnell on another board.

I was actually worried for a second when I saw the title and thought it was Norah rather than Lawrence O'donnell. Lawrence is certified, it's a bit of hysterical wishfull thinking on his part - at best Rove shows up in the notes as a bit of backround but I doubt he was the source of the Plame leak.
