Well, I just found a GEM, which I had, lost and found again. I remembered it was something he said to Burton, so I put that into Google and it came up. I guess now you are going to call Rep. Burton a liar, who had no interest in this race.

Your fine "conservative" McClintock himself said he would prefer to have the Democrats win the governorship of CA.

In a conversation with US Congressman Dan Burton, Tom McClintock said the following: he (McClintock) didn't mind it if Democrats win the gubernatorial race because it could improve his own chances in 2006. According to the Los Angeles Times, "Burton, one of the more conservative members of Congress, also said McClintock had seemed to suggest that it would be acceptable for a Democrat to hold the governor's office, because he might create a clamor for a Republican in 2006.".

The funny thing in 50 years when the global average temperature has only risen a 1/2 of a degree, the ecohead tree hungers will say that they stop global warming. All that hard work in 2005 to 2015 has paid off.

Or, will they say there is more work to do to stop global cooling?

And I also found the original article, or at least another article:

A Phone Call in Need of Instant Replay (Sen. Burton calls McClintock -- what really happened)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/985238/posts

Burton, one of the more conservative members of Congress, also said McClintock had seemed to suggest that it would be acceptable for a Democrat to hold the governor's office, because he might create a clamor for a Republican in 2006.

He said McClintock had drawn a historical parallel to the 1980 presidential election, when Republican Ronald Reagan defeated Jimmy Carter, en route to a two-term presidency.

"I was saying I hated to see the Democrats and especially Gray Davis keep control, and Bustamante may want to give California back to Mexico — I said that tongue in cheek," Burton said, referring to the incumbent Davis and to Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante. "And he said we had four years of Jimmy Carter and eight years of Ronald Reagan and that was a fair exchange. And the implication was maybe that leaving the Democrats in would show that they can't govern properly."

Oh THANK YOU!!! By posting that, you have confirmed my implication above, that we've jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire!!! That we've literally gone from dumb, to dumber by going from Davis to Schwartzie Baby!!!

Woo Hoo... Thank you!!! (grin)

Oh! And if there had not been the uberopportunistic power mad megelomaniac movie actor, the Lt. Gubernor would NEVER have beat McClintock without so many of you fearful Freepers going over the side to jump on the most dubious of bandwagons sporting a phony "R" on it's LEFT side!!!

People in powerful positions watch this site to get a feel for the mood on the RIGHT side of political spectrum. So "the posse" mislead some of those people and now we get this kinda stuff! Hoo boy!!!

What a dishonest spin artist you are! Saying that "it would be acceptable" is very different than saying that you would prefer it. Still leaving Gray Davis in office would have been better than what has happened with Arnold in office.

I happen to know how to contact Bob Chandra personally (I've met him on several occasions). So, after I give him a call, I'll let you know what he thinks of that comparison now. If you need his opinion in print, I'd bet he'll be happy to oblige you.

McClintock had seemed to suggest that it would be acceptable for a Democrat to hold the governor's office

Well shucks, FO. You even posted that carefully excerpted piece here on FR, and gleefully pinged it to the world with a message reading "read it and weep."

Unfortunately, you left out the important parts (like the intro) where McClintock went on record saying it didn't happen. I don't need to call Burton a liar; Tom already did. Note that Burton was also acting as the party operative to force McClintock out of the race. Hmmmm... might he have an incentive to be errrrrr... less than truthful?

A Phone Call in Need of Instant Replay *

State Sen. Tom McClintock took a call Wednesday from powerful Republican Congressman Dan Burton, asking him to clear the GOP field for Arnold Schwarzenegger by pulling out of the race.

What happened next is a matter of dispute.

(snip)

The state senator also denied that he was embracing a strategy in which a failed Democratic governor would create a groundswell for a Republican.

*The above excerpts (which FairOpinion carefully omitted) were retrieved from the LA Times database available free online with a Los Angeles County library card. (www.lapl.org)

Since then I hope you read my post 47. Burton, who spoke with McClintock made that statement.

McClintock claimed that Burton is supporting him.

Burton didn't like that Tom lied about his support and came out, making a statement, that not only he didn't support McC, but he urged him to drop out of the race, and he relayed more of the conversation. Burton only spoke out, to correct McC's incorrect statement.

The truth hurts.

Also note your original post (#23) was about FREEPERS, no one else.
OK. Here it is, but now I forgot who was the one who kept claiming I lied, when I said that I've seen posts from purportedly conservative posters who actually said on this board, that they preferred a Democrat to Schwarzenegger.
Now you bring up a disputed comment (he said, she said) printed by the LA Times? You're really stretching here, FO. Credibility going further south, IMO.

"Global warming threatens California's water supply, public health, agriculture, coastlines and forests - our entire economy and way of life," Schwarzenegger wrote.

"We have no choice but to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions."

Hook, line, and sinker.

Chandra is the guy that set up the website McClintockForSenate.Com when the CAGop was trying to force Tom out of the race. He also ran the ArnoldGovernor.Net website.

Not a credible source for anything in my book.

So? I agree with him. Compared To Arnold, Bray Davis hampered by Republican opposition would never have been able to run up the kind of financial disaster Arnold has.

I'm sorry I wandered in this thread. It's turned into another "total recall" slashing thread within FR.

1. I have no idea WHY the governor would publish in a British newspaper.
2. SMOGII, enacted by Davis and his cronies in the legislature is designed, actually, to get older vehicles OFF the road, at any rate.
3. While there is a mass migration out of CA; population in CA, nonetheless has been INCREASING. That one is not hard to figure out. Which also means those newly entering to reside in CA may be in the market for purchasing older cars which will then be caught via SMOGII leviathon.
4. With the population increase, it is more than logical to assume that more energy is being used for sustainability which then, of course, radiates a heat "plus". Calling it global warming is just using PC coinage.
5. With polls showing the Governor's ratings going down, Dems are posing WHOM for the next Governor? I'm curious as to what exactly Governor Arnold is "leaving" to the next Democrat Governor to deal with.

I've known of Tom for many years -- he's one of the best! However, Arnold won.

I'll be brave here: Why is it that some FRpers are coming across like Lib-Losers in need of Pest Therapy? Go on, throw your mud at me. Tom didn't win the office as much as many of we wished. Now, where do we all go from here?

Europe is very interested in writings about so-called "global warming" and why? They too are being heavily hit by primarily illegal immigration and it is costing these countries mega bucks at every bureacratic level imaginable.

To my eye, then, the arguments rests at the level of halting illegal immigration and the need to track the terrorist network.

Lastly, do any of you think Tom McClintock will plan another run for Governor soon?

3. While there is a mass migration out of CA; population in CA, nonetheless has been INCREASING.

The source of that population increase is demographically not as strong economically, and you know it.

4. With the population increase, it is more than logical to assume that more energy is being used for sustainability which then, of course, radiates a heat "plus". Calling it global warming is just using PC coinage.

Best you learn more about the NRDC natural gas scam in California.

Dems are posing WHOM for the next Governor?

Lockyer and Angelides are the two most likely.

Why is it that some FRpers are coming across like Lib-Losers in need of Pest Therapy? Go on, throw your mud at me.

Because Bill Simon would be governor today if the GOP "moderates" in control of the party's money (particularly Gerry Parsky) had not deliberately thrown that election. Because Tom McClintock would be Controller if the GOP "moderates" had given him a dime's worth of support and organization. Because Tom McClintock would have won the recall had the GOP "moderates" WHO HAD FOUGHT THE RECALL had not decided to highjack that effort with their crooked put-up Arnold who will eventually bring discredit to the GOP because of his policies (just as Wilson did). It was dishonest and virtiolic posters like FareOpinion who led that effort here, relying primarily upon the the bogus claim that Arnold was a fiscal conservative.

Is that enough for you?

Now, where do we all go from here?

Educate the fools who fell for the fear campaign and bought a pig in a poke so that something like this "only moderates can win in California" crap isn't attempted again. That's what you see here.

Europe is very interested in writings about so-called "global warming" and why?

Europe is a democratic socialist system in which the politically dominant; i.e., those with the money to finance politicians, have control of the means of production. In Europe, the politically dominant are bankers. The "global warming" scam is designed for international bankers to cash in on carbon taxes. They'll use the taxes to hamper production in the industrialized world and invest in the corrupt developing world. They believe that the tax advantages they'll enjoy will insure a fat return.

Lastly, do any of you think Tom McClintock will plan another run for Governor soon?

The GOP leadership will do everything in its power to stop that. That's why the fight here between conservatives and CAGOP surrogates. Don't look for it to end soon.
