We do not have any idea why those men stopped by..assumptions we have by the basketful but no truth at this point. 3 children 2 fathers isnt even an odd thing anymore. heck at my church we just had a babyshower for a member who just had her 3rd child by the 3rd guy never been married and the church treated her and the baby exactly the same as if she had been married. At the press conference today they said those two men were not friends of theirs. Noel is not "trash".

ummm ok....

Maybe during the shower someone in the Church could try teaching her about morals, values, respect and birth control how to say NO!

She's not getting the message apparently.

These kids are paying a high price for irresponsible parents.

The two late-night visitors to Noel Smith's rural Floyd apartment early Friday morning, allegedly the last people to see Evelyn Miller, were acquaintances, not friends of the family

That's even worse - not friends, but "acquaintances" showing up at 2AM? Why was it in then news story I read that the mother wouldn't identify these two visitors for the reporters? I would be screaming their names if I was her.....

And the fiance slept through the visit?

Wasn't the front door was left open? Does the fiance know they were there, it's so unclear...

The mother was definitely at work?

The last people besides the family and these two acquaintances to see the people were who?

I would want to know who else saw that child - when's the last time someone other than those 4 saw that child. Somethings not adding up....

Yes, mom was at work - unless you have some proof she wasn't...this is Iowa - lots of people don't lock doors, leave keys in cars, etc...and you keep raising lots of other mindless speculation and twaddle. Just stop. Why don't you just quit reading and replying to this thread, OK?

What a rude little man you are. I am a non-American so didn't quite get some of her barbs about Iowa. Are all of the inhabitants as dumb as you...?

You haven't heard of all the cases we've been subjected to through the past decade or more of parents who say their child has been abducted and it turns out the parents were involved in the death?

Everyone is a suspect in these cases - especially the family until there is hard evidence that shows that someone else took the child.

I watched the video of the mother, my instincts went up that somethings not right about this story.

hopefully the Iowa authorities are suspicious of all involved here and really working this case.

Thank you. Been a long time since I was called little. Are all people from your homeland as smart as you?

I deal in facts, not twaddle. If you have facts to back up anything you say - bring it on - otherwise, keep the speculation to yourself, thank you.

I'm reminded of the Jon Benet Ramsay case. As you say, it sounds creepy.

They weren't friends they were acquaintances apparently.

I have not really been following this case much, have not really seen much about it on the news...so what I am about to say, is really applicable to all these cases of children that go missing....

When a child goes missing, everyone should be suspected, whether they are the parents, other family members, neighbors, acquaintances, strangers in the area, and on and on...no one should ever be above suspicion...

What I always find unappealing in all these cases of missing children, is how the rampant speculation takes hold on FR....often the speculation is based on nothing more, than how certain people appear, how they look, do they seem educated or uneducated, have they ever used drugs, what religion are they, and on and on and on endlessly....its as if, someone is poor, or uneducated, or has had problems with drugs, or the mom has a job(good grief, how horrible), that somehow that explains why the child is missing...I have seen parent after parent subjected to the most rank speculation, simply because they dont fit someone elses standard of what loving caring parents should look like, or what religion they should be, or what financial category they fall into...its almost as if, there are those people, right here on FR, that actually believe, that poor people, that people who have struggled with drugs, that moms who have jobs, that people who may be in a religion not considered mainstream enough for FR, cannot possibly love their children and provide for their safety as well as those same Freepers....

I read as people believed that Danielle Van Damne died because her parents were 'swingers', people who suspected Jessica Lunsfords father, because he stayed overnite at his girlfriends, people who were and still are suspicious of Elizabeth Smart and that whole scenario, simply because she was Mormon, and therefore somehow programmed to believe in a man having multiple wives...and I have heard folks suspect Shasta Groenes father and family, because of the drugs....it seems for almost every child that disappears, people here are quick to point out every fault in the parents, think that somehow, that is the reason for the childs disappearance....sometimes it is the parents, but often its not the parents....no one here has special radar, has any special powers(no matter what they claim for themselves), and are not privy to private secret information about the parents....

Of course the parents should be under suspicion no matter how they look, how educated they are, no matter their lifestyle, no matter their economic status, no matter whether they have jobs or not....

I sometimes think that people try to find fault with the parents, because in that way, it somehow reassures them that their own child could never go missing...heck if they dont use drugs, if the mom does not work outside the home, and is always there, if they belong to mainstream religions, if they maintain a mainstream family life, then their child is safe....well, that is a dangerous way to think....anyones child at any time could disappear....

The predators, the pedophiles, ,the evil people of this world, are all around us....all children are vulnerable....I think the classic example is Mark Klass...little Polly grabbed out of her own house, during a PJ Party with her friends...but Mark Klass seemed to fit everyones idea of the model, ideal husband....well spoken, fine financially, has a mainstream family life, seems educated, etc. etc....I never heard people say anything mean about him, and thank goodness for that...

But it really does irk me, when parents appear on TV, and right away, the FR experts, start claiming that their radar is on, that this parent or that parent does not 'look' right(what the heck does that mean anyway)....because a parents is not sobbing that somehow means they are guilty(heck, after my son died of leukemia, I could not cry for months, I had cried so much during his illness)....often parents cannot cry, because they are in shock...often being in shock, allows parents to plow through, and try to find their child, instead of crumbling....shock does different and funny things to different people...

I guess this sounded like a rant...well I suppose that it is....I just do believe that most parents no matter their education, their economic status, their religion, their past use with drugs, their lifestyle, do actually love and want to protect and keep safe their children....

Not one of the supposed FR experts, with their wild notions, allegations, etc. know or have any more specific knowledge of what happened to the many missing children that we, unfortunately are hearing more and more about...

Parents do just need to do their best to keep their children safe...and when a child does go missing, everyone, including the family and friends must come under suspicion...and even if a family does do something that is reckless, and that leads to the loss of their child, dont let the recklessness lead to others relaxing their guard, because they dont exhibit that behavior....

All children are at risk...NO, I dont have any answers as to how to keep all children safe...I guess the best way, is to get all these pedophiles, and lock them up for the rest of their lives...short of that, all parents must be on alert at all times...its a scarey world out there, for children, and that is a terrible thing to have to say...

No we are not. We used to have an excellent education system, and the whole country used our standardized tests for testing achievement of children throughout the country.

People with school-age children moving to Iowa from some states found they were sometimes two years behind their age group.

Now everything in Iowa is getting shot to hell like the rest of the country, but there are still at least two intelligent people left in Iowa, and they post on this forum, one regularly, and one not so regularly. There are a couple other Iowans, but I don't know them or what their IQ is. They appear to be literate enough to post on this board.

Keith, thanks for the update. This has been on local talk radio the last two afternoons and on the local tv news as well. One thousand, that is 1,000 people, have gone to the Floyd area from Waterloo and other towns to help in the search. That's what REAL Iowans are like.

As for the church lady's (won't ping her because I can't remember her screen name at the moment) and other snarky comments about the mother, now is certainly not the time to trash her. An innocent child who did not ask to be born has very possibly been murdered. Real Christians take people and love them where they are in their lives, except ummmmm one some denomination where illegitimacy is still equated with leprosy to the point the young girls who are unwed mothers seldom turn out with their families. You welcome and love them first and then hopefully someone will tactfully help them on their way to overcoming their sinful habits, IF they stick around long enough and not feel so alienated because they are often alienated, marginal members of society.

This is true.

I am curious as to who saw the little girl last that isn't part of those last known to have seen her... ie: mom, fiance, and 2 acquaintances so there is a definite timeline of when she was last seen to work from.

I still am not clear of what the visit was all about, the different articles I've read about it say the fiance was sleeping, but then he must've known the people were in his house.... and he fell asleep - while there were still there, after they left? And the little girl was asleep on the couch where the adults were?

If it's a sex predator that took this little girl, then there should be a national outcry about how our children need protecting and the laws must change.

It's sickening.

Mark Klass has suggested that pedophiles should be put in jail for life, on a second conviction....that surprised me...considering what he and his family went through when they lost their daughter Polly, I would have expected him to say that a pedophile should be put in jail for life, on a first conviction(that would be my choice)...but Mr. Klass is more gracious than I am...he says, that anyone can be convicted a first time, and yet may not have actually committed the crime...he is willing a allow a pedophile doing just the regular time on a first conviction, but a second conviction would only reinforce the first conviction, and then the pedophile should be in jail for life....

The statistics show, that by and large, most pedophiles cannot be cured...they can only be stopped, by keeping them in jail....its time that our laws, our courts, our judges, our juries, worry about the children, and not worry about a pedophiles rights on a second conviction...second conviction, you go to jail for life, so that you never again, may harm a child...many folks may think that is too strong...I dont...many pedophiles do not physically murder their victims....but they murder their childhoods, they tear families apart, and often the victims never recover mentally from their ordeal...so yes, they deserve jail for life...

My apologies.

That was big of you. I really don't know Keith at all, but he is a fellow Iowan and maybe he is feeling a little testy. He is good at keeping people up to speed on Iowa news stories that should have national interest if people weren't so obsessed with New Yuk, California, and Florida. Iowans are considered "hicks" by most of the rest of the country's faux intelligentsia, despite some excellent schools and universities, and the people in Minnesota make jokes about us like some people joke about Polish people. We live with it.

I'm testy at the moment due to longstanding computer problems which turned mega starting last night, so the fuse is a little short. Sorry about that.
