Iraqi Insurgents Seek Talks With US

DUBAI, 5 July 2005 — A newly named spokesman for two Iraqi insurgent groups yesterday asked the US Congress to make an “official” offer for negotiations with Washington, according to an interview broadcast on Al-Jazeera television. “We will accept nothing but an official initiative from the US Congress with a precise timetable and a binding decision. Let this be clear,” Ibrahim Yusef Al-Shammari said, speaking on behalf of the Islamic Army in Iraq and the Army of the Mujahedeen.

An unverified statement posted on the Internet in the name of the two insurgent groups announced the appointment of Shammari as joint spokesman following Washington’s admission it had held talks with rebel representatives.

Asked if secret negotiations had begun between rebels and US authorities in Iraq in an attempt to negotiate an end to the insurgency, Shammari denied any dialogue with US forces but was less clear as to whether unofficial contacts had been made.

“I deny the existence of a dialogue... All initiatives on these negotiations will be done according to our political program... and no contact of this kind has taken place directly or indirectly with the Americans,” he said to the Qatar-based channel.

“Negotiations are a part of our political program and they are not happening at the moment because of the situation on the ground... the United States doesn’t want to negotiate but they want scorched-earth politics,” he said.

We don't need no stinkin' talks. They drop their weapons and surrender. That's all they need to do.

I don't trust them. They talk from both sides of the mouth. They smile, shake hands, and kill you when you turn your back.

Obviously they don't understand how our system works.

The PRESIDENT is in charge of both foreign policy and military affairs.

Congress don't know nothin' about nothin'... in this or any other matter.

When the enemy asks for negotiations with the military you are right. When the enemy asks for negotiations with Congress, it means they have identified the weak link of underminers in the US government. They may be exhausted too, but it shows they have listened to Durbin, Hagel, Pelosi, Reid etal. who I am sure are shocked, shocked that they enemy views them as the weak link.

Hmmmmm.....they deny any sort of dialogue with us......then demand a dialogue with us. Sounds like they wanna save what little face we haven't blown off yet.Personally, I think they just wanna go home now.

Stop attacking our troops and turn in your weapons, then we'll talk. Until then, be prepared to meet allah face-to-face.

All perfectly legitimate forms of struggle in Jihad, according to the Koran. Make treaties and break them when it suits your purposes, Muslims are advised. I don't buy a single line of their crap now that I know where they are coming from.

Surrender must be total and unconditional. Any other agreement isn't worth the paper it's written on.

When the enemy asks for negotiations, it often means the enemy is exhausted.

Usually this is seized upon by the democrats in an effort to allow them to regroup and rearm.

Another tactic from our good friends on the left, it's called "Fighting while negociating", in which one side
(the Terrs) "continue the struggle" while the other,
"must abide by the truce".

We have seen this how many times?
Watch what the left does, how long before calls for "talks"
start?

Exactly right.

And you can bet that a Democrat delegation will meet with these folks, then return to proclaim them only 'patriots' in their own land, as they fight against occupation.

Together with the MSM, they will begin a drumbeat for withdraw from Iraq. Bush wont listen, and this will be the theme of the 2008 elections.

Great! that means they are exhuasted. I cannot think of a better time to kill the remaining terrorists (I will never refer to them what the MSM calls "insurgents")!

Most Democrats and some Republicans (like Hagel) will ask to sign on the dotted line of surrender (withdrawal).

Agreed. The only "conditions" that need to be negotiated are when and where we will take their unconditional surrender.

We've been burned badly by taking other courses of action in the past. Nothing but total, unconditional, absolute surrender should even be considered.
