President vandalizing U.S. values - (ravings of Sarasota Trib lunatic lib Letter to Editor writer!)
SARASOTA TRIBUNE.COM ^ | JULY 4, 2005 | James Keeney

Posted on 07/04/2005 6:42:26 PM PDT by CHARLITE

The recent incident in Bent Tree, a Sarasota subdivision, shows that the words and policies of President Bush are driving our young people to the brink of insanity.

One of the boys who burned American flags was quoted as saying he did it because he hated America. I doubt that he meant he hated Bent Tree. More likely, he hated a country that tortures its prisoners, stubbornly resists efforts to slow global warming and saddles each of our newborn grandchildren with a $150,000 debt to the Chinese.

For years, we taught our children that they were lucky to be Americans and should be proud of American idealism. We taught them that our nation gives humane treatment to all prisoners, that we protect the environment, and that wise policies like the New Deal enable our poor to become middle class. Yet every day now, our children see all of these wonderful values being vandalized by our president. It's like being told to love daddy but having to watch him beat mom every morning.

In the 1960s, contradictions like these motivated some young people to demand and win reforms such as the Civil Rights Act and the Clean Water Act. But they also drove others to demand revolution, build bombs, stop trains and kidnap children of the rich. We avoided revolution because Congress and the Supreme Court ultimately forced the resignation of a power-crazed president and restored faith in democracy.

When our president tells us, as he did last week, to fly our American flags on the Fourth of July not only to show our love for America, but also to show support for his policies, he desecrates the true symbolism of the American flag and invites exactly the type of "political speech" we witnessed last week right here in Bent Tree.

You have taught trash to our children. That's the problem. Instead of teaching them moral values and the true history of our country, you taught them how the New Deal cares for the poor and crap like that.

"At least the ones that survive the gauntlet of abortion."

Incredibly on-target comment, tet68. Very good point! This too is part of what this twit thinks was so "liberating" about "The Great Society!" Thumping new "American traditional value!" - killing the unborn ON DEMAND!

I wonder how well this letter writer would be doing in ..........say......Darfur, Sudan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, N. Korea or communist China?

Thanks for your smart comment.

Incidentally, I post this kind of tripe once in awhile, just to emphasize what atrocious "brain droppings" really exist in our country these days. Call it a regionalized, mini-Michael Moron exhibit!

...and that wise policies like the New Deal enable our poor to become middle class...

Policies such as that described here make schlubs of the legitimate middle class. What right do the poor claim to possess which entitles them to a middle class lifestyle without doing what it takes to get there - save sticking out one's hand?

Right on! And this jerk can blame Beelzebubba for giving the Chicoms most favored nation trade status ...a nice way for the poor to become middle class is via hard work...kinda tough to do that if the factories are all in China...it's not a "debt" as such, we're paying 'em cash every time Americans buy their toys and other gadgets...Why the heck can't those items be made in America???

"The protester's mother, Barbara Vollick, said her son was trying to make a statement against the war in Iraq, not against the United States.

"He's just a college student being crazy," she said.

Murrieta police Sgt. Dennis Vrooman said, "He was basically a one-man demonstration."

He was trying to get others to join him, Vrooman said, "but he wasn't getting any cooperation."

Vollick said her son was upset about President Bush's speech on Iraq last week.

"He's very angry that our young men are dying," Vollick said.

"He didn't even get to say anything," she said, alleging that about a half-dozen people attacked him and pulled the flag away. One man punched him in the face, she said.

Vollick said Sunday her son wasn't in any condition to speak with the press.

"He's actually in a lot of pain right now."

......and that is as it should be for anyone burning Old Glory!

Thanks, RedRover. That was an interesting article, and it was much happier indeed, since this confused, ill-tempered, ignorant kid got the stuffing punched out of him!

Maybe we actually don't need an anti-flag-burning Amendment, as long as the potential flag burners are in a negative 1 to 6 ratio!

James Keeney, like most Bolsheviks, can't see the forest for the trees. This condition is exacerbated by his fervent hatred of President Bush, and very likely also by his obvious lack of reasoning skills.

Such a shame. It would seem that a sperm cell and an ovum could have been put to better use.

The fact that my local newspaper chose to print this letter will come as no surprise to anyone who lives in Sarasota. Most conservatives I know here refer to the local rag as Pravda for the sun coast.

Letters from conservatives are rare and the only time a conservative columnist is printed is when he/she is discussing something non-political or just happens to take issue with the Bush administration.

The problem is Thomas Tryon, the Editorial Page Editor. He's a rabid and unabashed leftist.

I live in a subdivision of Bent Tree and we were told that the kids who burned the flags were just really drunk, did something stupid and chose the Bush bashing as a method for saving their sorry asses when they got caught. They've probably seen it so much in the local paper that they figured it just might work.

This ass-clown Keeney mentioned the "new deal" in his rant so I figure he must be a 90-year-old geezer who doesn't have a whole lot of brain cells working. It's also likely he's an alcoholic who has spent considerable time on welfare, but that's just my guess. I wouldn't worry about him, though - - there are simpletons like Keeney all over the place who write this kind of letter to the editor. In years gone by people like Keeney would stand on street corners yelling at passersby. Now they send letters to the editor.

The best thing you can do with idiots such as this, CHARLITE, is to ignore them.

Attempting to enlighten them only leads to frustration and wasted time on your part.

They have no ability to comprehend. They have no ability to think and form rational sentences. They can only memorize and repeat slogans.

Their favorite one before President Bush was elected was, "Nixon did it, too!" Now it is, "It's Bush's fault!"

I learned this lesson during the Clinton regime.

Without even getting into the inaccuracies of his statements it is at root once again nothing more than a leftist that can't fathom personal responsibility for their actions. Just like the communists of the sixties, the song never changes its ALWAYS someone else's fault. While displaying some of the worst characteristics human nature has to offer they seem to criticize the the fact that human nature is not perfect. I wonder if they ever apply their standards to their own causes and leaders? I doubt it, I don't see it.

You're RIGHT. I didn't think of it that way, but I remember many such people. In London, they're still ranting on at "Speakers' Corner." I used to see them pontificating there, but have forgotten exactly where Speakers' Corner is.

Thanks for your comments - exceptionally cogent and bright, as always!

I never said I doubt it...just said they're now trying to cover up what they did by making all kinds of excuses. What do you know about Bent Tree, other than there is at least one crazy old fart living here? Lots of lunatic liberals from the Northeast (and elsewhere) retire here.

What's amazing is not that some idiot wrote this tripe to the paper, but that the paper willingly published it.

If you'd like to come down and visit, I'd be happy to introduce you to some people in the neighborhood you think is filled with traitors. I'd specially like to introduce you to a couple of Vietnam vets and Gulf War I vets who live near me. They'd be especially interested in your broad brushing of them as traitors. I'd be especially interested in their reaction.
