A better way is to shoot the animal high in the neck, just behind the jaw bone. These idiots need some hunter safety training.

The problem is placing a shot when the thing is down on the ground and is thrashing and writhing around. To be honest I know how to shoot a horse but this situation would give me pause. And of course this is in a suburban area, surrounded by people, traffic, etc., where you do not want a shot to go astray. You could certainly do it with a nine--heck, you really could do it with a .22 if you knew what you were doing--but there's a reason Virginia mandates the use of 30.06 when deer hunting.
