Isn't every Olypics a drain/strain on the host city? It's like a commitee announcing which city will be burdened 7 years hence.

My thoughts exactly.
I definitely found it amusing watching hopelessly socialist Greece go bankrupt hosting the 2004 Summer Olympics.

...but chirac said the food is SO bad! I bet not as bad as the sour grapes he must be ingesting right about now!

Agree wholeheartedly, although in a way I'm glad New York didn't get the Olympics--I don't even want to think of how much worse the traffic would have been!

The French newspapers apparently said the only thing that could destroy Paris' bid was Jacques Chirac.
They were right.

Darn it, I was looking forward to watching the German athletes marching into Paris, while the French cower in fear! Or watching the French do the wave! What? It's not the wave, they were just surrendering!
To: 1066AD
Better than the Yellow Fro...oh, never mind. Why kick the french when they're down? They obviously like being there, so let 'em suck up their own sewerage as the civilized planet's most contemptible country. The London games will get a lot more traffic & tourism $$ from this side of the pond than the snarky-farty french would have. Smartest choice by the IOC. I just pray the economics of all this helps London, though, Mr. Livingstone aside.

And once again Hillary didn't bring home the bacon to NY'ers.
Gee, how great for the libs it would have been if tomorrows NY Times, WAPO and rest of the lamestream media had as a headline, "Hillary brings Olympics to US."
Guess they never thought about it. As they say in French Le Bummer..HAHAHA

My wife and I said the same thing yesterday, In terms of city layout (wide streets), spread out.. Moscow made the best choice. My wife is from NYC (Ive only been a hand full of times) and neither of us could imagine what a nightmare the Olympics there would have been and, from what I hear, London is even worse.
Oh well I am kinda happy the French did not get it. Even though usually the Olympics are a net (-) it still would have given those frogs something to crow about..

Having been to London 5 times myself, I really cannot think of a more fun city to go see the Olympic Games at. Congrats!!!!
The added bonus is that it really must make Chirac's skin crawl that Paris lost to London.
