Six billion people on earth are not Americans; to call America their hope is, to put it mildly, hubristic.

That's right! Every culture is equal!!

If some Nigerian girl is being afflicted genital mutiliation you must not judge!!

If a Chinese person is beaten because he or she belongs to an unapproved religion you must understand it's just part of the culture!!

Europe is not run by corrupt bureaucrats and Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro and Kim Il Song aren't bad just different!!

Tthe various dictators of Africa are just exhibting their uncontrollable virality and we merely feel threatened!!

How dare we Americans presume we hold out some kind of hope.

Amen? Interesting. The few things he says that have a grain of truth are embedded in a giant pile of... ignorance. He obviously doesn't read his Bible, and fantasizes that Jesus is sorta like Ghandi, but with a big nose.

His statements about America are 99% false, and his statements about God and the Bible are 100% false.

Interesting....
Where to start?

Gandhi's four-fold profession of faith is three-fourths heresy. It is also a statement I can imagine Jesus making

What Jesus DID say:
John 14:
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

But then I guess if you don't believe that God word is literal you can plug anything in.

Thanks for the ping!

In the last days good will be called evil, and evil will be called good. Men will be lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God and will worship creation more than the Creator. --Jesus

You prove the point.

I don't understand how George Bush's Republican Government is helping to move us in the direction of ideals expressed in your post...

It mostly isn't. On the other hand, a Kerry Narcisistic Communist government would lead away from those ideals at breakneck speed.

So, now the 10 commandments and the general commandments found in the NT are also to be considered 'living breathing documents'???

Amen!

Every fundamentalist who believes there is just one Holy Book is ignoring the fact that the Christian Bible, Quran, Torah and Vedas are each considered to be that one Book, and the God of each faith has become the Empowerer of millions of potentially violent literalists. The proponents of all four faiths consider themselves chosen, they're all armed with nuclear weapons, and the zealots of each faith are prepared to kill in defense of their chosenness. This is why each faith stands in need not of a turning away from tradition, but of a compassion rebellion against the presumptuous "certainties" of the zealots within each tradition, and a universal recognition of the fact that the sigh within the prayer is the same in the heart of the Christian, the Muslim, the Hindu and the Jew.

*************

Typical anti-religion nonsense. To respond with an "Amen" seems confused at best.

Religion is not philosophy, and yes, there are "certainties" involved in our beliefs.

"I hold the evangelical truth of our situation to be that contemporary politicized fundamentalists, including first and foremost those aimed at Empire and Armageddon, need us non-fundamentalists, mystics, ecosystem activists, unprogrammable artists, agnostic humanitarians, incorrigible writers, truth-telling musicians, incorruptible scientists, organic gardeners, slow food farmers, gay restaurateurs, wilderness visionaries, pagan preachers of sustainability, compassion-driven entrepreneurs, heartbroken Muslims, grief-stricken children, loving believers, loving disbelievers, peace-marching millions, and the One who loves us all in such a huge way that it is not going too far to say: they need us for their salvation."

How nice that this writer has found the way for our "salvation". Thanks, but if you don't mind I prefer to believe the Bible.

Why do you hate those that love the Lord and try and serve Him to the best of their ability - even though they run the chance of insulting you by their zeal?

Duncan and I respect the inherent worth and dignity of you and otherChristians who disagree with us. Our problem is that some Christians don't respect our views or tolerate other religionists such as the Islamists. As a result of such lack of respect and intolerance by some Christians Duncan and I find our country involved in a war we hated from the start, even before nearly two thousand Americans and many tens of thousands of Iraqis died or were permanently maimed and before the Bush Administration realized the war might go on in present form for at least 12 more years. Your post said that "President Bush and American Christians will handle America." and "Whereas you with your views care nothing for others - just your own view of peace.", thereby rendering irrelevant the political views of the rest of us.

If Duncan or I had said "President Clinton and American Democrats know how to handle America" or "Whereas you with your views care nothing for others - just promoting your own religious wars", how would you feel about those statements?

The author's ignorance of theology and history both religious and secular is typical of those who rant against Christians.

This just expresses what the agnostic left believes about religion in general. It's based on ignorance of what real Christianity is all about. It is rooted in a man-centered view of things rather than a God-centered perspective. No one owns Jesus or a religion - Jesus owns us and the world.

What does this mean, a lack of lobbyists in Washington? Lay-led Christian congregations? I don't understand how George Bush's Republican Government is helping to move us in the direction of ideals expressed in your post.

Let's not change the subject.

We're talking about David J. Duncan's claim that Bush/the Republicans is pushing some religion of jingoism. And what he has quoted from Bush simply does not substantiate that.

I'm not terribly surprised that you, like Mr. Duncan, find it difficult to grasp the difference between the existance of lawyers in DC, Republicans in office, [insert your most hated policy here], and the IDEAL of America.

I'm not as familiar as some of you others with her typical thread topics.
I'll now be more wary.

Ok - point made.

However, just because you do not agree that Islam is out to kill all infidels - does not mean that others can't see the danger and WILL act to prevent the slaughter of our citizens.

You too are not the only opinion.

Your action after 9/11 would be to blame the Americans. I never hear condemnation of dictators in the world and the havoc they put on their own people. Therefore, it appears that libs love dictatorships and seek to align themselves with them. Why? Do they feel they will be the ruling elite? Are they so cowardly that the only action can be appeasement in hopes only others will be killed not them.

We live in a republic and the majority has a voice.

The liberals will never defend the country and therefore the country is at risk under the control of liberals. Not so with the GOP. This country was made through wars - not talking.

Look at history - every freedom has been bought by war - not the peace-lovers. Why? Because no one will give you peace when they can control you, control your assets and use you.

So, we have to defend freedom or even those like you will not be able to speak out. You should be very thankful that there have always been patriots wise enough to understand and fight those that seek to put us under tyranny.

And, the nimble wordsmithing does not change the fact that men will judge events, men will act to protect their families and their country - no matter how much you dislike it. It also does not change the fact that all are free to read the Bible and live their own lives as they see fit - without living by your rules of no belief in religions.

You are anti everything in society. And, if you had had control back through history we would be under the rule of England to this day.

Thank God for blessing our fine American patriots in helping create this country that is the finest example of freedom in the world. Such a pity that liberals wish to destroy it. Seems they would be so much happier in France.

No, after 9/11 most Democrats and even MoveOn.org favored military action against Afghanistan. Most significant, polling data demonstrate that 84 percent of self-described liberals, two weeks after the attacks, supported "military action" against the terrorists, and 75 percent supported "going to war with a nation that is harboring those responsible." The Bush Administration, in contrast, proved far more interested in going to war against people who had nothing to do with the attacks; in doing so, it invited Al Qaeda to regroup and bin Laden to run free.

Your post also forgets that Democrats led the way against the apartheid regime in South Africa, eventually forcing the Reagan administration to cooperate in forging a democracy there. We have also led the fight against dictatorships in Chile, Haiti, and El Salvador, with Republicans in Congress aligned against us. There is no truth to rumors spread by Karl Rove and other Republican politicians that Democrats would destroy this country.

Shalom Israel (post 25 in this thread) at least was honest enough to admit that the Bush administration is not helping to move us in the direction of ideals expressed in your earlier post here.

It's like you read my mind and then wrote it all down. You have said everything I've been saying for years, only much better. I was raised fundie, and as a kid I was taught to help the down and out, to take care of the earth, etc. And then as I grew up, I realized the people who taught me this actually wanted to do the opposite of what they said. I want no part of that. And now, 30 years later, they are even further away from what they preached than they were. All I see now is hatemongering and evilness, far from the loving, helpful, Jesus-like people we were taught to be.

Thanks Murrymom, you are right on.

I'm not listening to others opinions - I have decided for myself that I will never again trust my country to a democrat. It is obvious and is proved daily by every action of your democrat party.

Look in the media daily. See what the slant is. FOR the terrorists, dictators, anti-American complainers and everything against Bush even to the point of abetting terrorists and their ability to kill us. Even to the point of putting our soldiers at risk as they protect the freedoms of the IDIOT congressmen who provoke hatred for America all over the world with their cheap trite lies.

I don't expect my countrymen to ever disrespect this country and play to anti-America rhetoric during a war. It is abetting the enemy and killing our men and furthering terrorism as it feeds their efforts to recruit. It is not Bush causing the anti-American hatred - it is the democrats. And, if that is what they are willing to do during a war for our survival - you can guarantee I will never respect one of them again. Those are the actions of traitors - not Americans. So, why would you ever expect them to protect America when they are in power? They will give the country to the highest bidder, to pad their own pockets. And, we know it full well.

You never hear that the reason we went to Iraq was because everyone (including your precious Clinton) felt that Iraq had WMD. All actions by Saddam proved that, all U.N. sanction violations proved that he would not comply.

Why is the U.N. to merely ask him to allow inspections and never enforce anything? 16 resolutions and no compliance? So, we are to expect that he just wants to be ornery? No danger there?

You know full well - that the reason we went to Iraq was because he was the biggest threat we faced if he had those weapons (and all felt he did) and gave them to the terrorists to attack America.

We do not HAVE to see the slaughter of other Americans before we act. That is only the rule of the liberal pacifist - if you lose - not 3000 people, but maybe 100,000 people you can take action. But - you have to pay the price of 100000 lives first. Why? So that others in the world will still only hate you at the current level - not notched up a mite.

The liberals don't care that children were imprisoned away from their parents for years by Saddam, don't care about the torture chambers that all feared. Just let Saddam sit there and play with his bombs, hate America, and eventually get them to terrorists and our shores. Well, no thank you.

Keep on believing your idiot liberal elites. Some of us are a lot smarter than that.

And, now that Saddam is gone - Bush has put two countries on the road to democracy, freeing millions of people from dictators and taking action that will turn people to working for a democracy instead of seeking a terrorist effort.

Now, what have the liberals ever done? Nothing but pad corruption and sleaze. They seek a nation devoid of God, morality, family values. So much easier to control the masses if they are all dependent on the government crumbs from the tables of the ruling elites.

But, of course, you feel you will have a better life with socialism don't you. You feel that of course the democrats will take care of me.

And, you don't want any of that religious stuff because it makes so many feel they are not the esteemed citizens they like to believe they are. No, they don't want a God because they love to dwell in corruption, sleaze, seek the lowest common denominator in America.

You are sure wasting your time on FR as we have seen the democrat beast and want no part of it ever. It will lead to the total destruction of the America we have had.
