"It's a weapon which is specifically designed for combat,"

Well, you could take it huntin if you want to kill and butcher at the same time.

I'm trying to machine a brake for it - sometimes, it goes off, and just won't stop...

Double barrels are notoriously hard to control.

Good afternoon.

"No it doesn't - standard 12.8mm russian fifty cal."

I think that is 12.7mm and I've seen them with wheels even when on an AA mount.

Noisy thing isn't it. You've got to love commie guns.

The Marines figured out that the M249 was a pile of crap pretty quickly and "improvised" the M240G.

Agreed, have you ever fired an M-249 with an M-16 magazine stuck in the side? Jams constantly. It was better belt-fed, but not much. And, who want a machinegun that fires 5.56mm?

Apparently the soft "assault packs" for the 249 aren't much better. Lots of complaints about them in the Army "lessons learned" report from Iraq.

As for the 5.56mm, well, it's a *light* machinegun. In all senses of the word. Doesn't make sense to me, but someone must want them.

Meanwhile, I think I'll listen to the Marines, who figured it out first and went to the M240G and pitched the M249s into the nearest smelter.

When stolen from a Joplin-area gun show on Sunday, June 21, the gun was broken

Yep, that's a REALLY dangerous machinegun laying around.

You want to see bizarre sentences- go look at the full text of the proposed FEC regs.

People who write gobbledegook like that ought to be familiarized with an M-60. From about thirty yards or so.

And this from someone who has proofread trust indentures for muni bond issues without ripping my eyeballs from their sockets and running screaming from the room...

"It's a weapon which is specifically designed for combat," Wooten said.

Well. . . duh!

"It does have the capacity for full automatic with a cyclical fire rate of 800 to 1,200 rounds per minute."

What's with this guy? Has he seen Saving Private Ryan once too often? He's talking about the rate of fire for an MG-42.

I had a Pig do a "runaway gun" routine on me once...was firing from prone in short controlled bursts and took my finger off the trigger after going throughabout half the belt -but the pig just kept going "BANG-BANG-BANG"! I had to twist the belt to make it jam to get it to stop. ...interesting weapon but it was the only thing we had (never fired the M240 or M249...that was way after my time).

Why was it always the smallest guy in the squad that got the pig.

This brings back memories. When I got to my first duty station (1st Cav. at Ft. Hood), we drove our 113's into the sticks where they were administratively "killed". Facing an 18 mile march back to camp, the squad leader asked for a volunteer to carry the M-60 back. Being full of piss and vinegar, I couldn't wait to hoss that bad boy. Needless to say, 3 hrs. later my perception of the coolness of the M-60 had changed forever.

How many people have been inspired by the title with M-60 "Patton tank" instead. Ok, that was off topic. Sorry :)
