Same old, same old.......his word against hers.
I believe her, not a wild, self-important, self-entitled, horny sports legend.
You know him?
By the way, you're misquoting Twain in your tag. It's not Congress, it's School Boards.
African-American sexual morality.
Nothing "happened" to Bryant. He brought it all on himself. He tried to cheat on his pregnant wife with a girl he didn't know. When you do that, you'll occasionally get burned. I have no idea whether he raped her. I wasn't there. All I know is Bryant is a dirtbag who settled out of court and, like a coward, used his wife as a prop at that press conference.
As for the "oldest scam in the book," that would be when a company like NIKE goes out and hires or re-hires a guy who dribbles a basketball for a living to endorse their product instead of a real hero like an American soldier.
You can fill your closet with NIKE shoes if you want to, but I'm not buyin' it.
Buying shoes from the Eastbay catalog is the only way to go.
Now that my kids are older, I can effectively boycott McDonalds when they choose "Vote or Die" puff pimp daddy diddy to make their uniforms too.
I agree with your first part that he brought it on himself. Again, it's the "celebrity stupid tax."
I don't believe Nike or any other company can get an endorsement deal from the U.S. Military. I'm pretty sure there are laws against that. And what do basketball sneakers have to do with the military?
And for the record, I don't by Nike or any other over-priced sports shoe.
*****But the new Nike ad, featuring a stark close-up of the athlete's face, proves that the taint on Bryant's name has lifted.
I wouldn't call it that. For one thing, there's plenty of black Americans who will have nothing to do with that lifestyle and who maintain high standards of personal morality. Secondly, there's plenty of other Americans of all colors who have bought into this kind of immorality. It's a problem for all Americans and I wouldn't just pin it on one group.
Well, they could get some retired military guy who also has a sports background. Or a fireman. Or police officer. Someone who actually does something essential for society.
And for the record, I don't by Nike or any other over-priced sports shoe.
Good. They are over-priced, especially considering what they pay the people who make them.
I wondered why David Robinson never seemed to get any shoe ads. A Naval Academy grad, great player and role model both on and off the court, I guess he didn't fit the image. I think Nike and the other shoe companies bear a lot of the blame for the decline of US basketball over the past 15 years.
I don't want this to devolve into a marketing discussion, but old retired guys don't sell products to teens. Kids aren't going to buy a sneaker "from" their fathers. They're going to buy a sneaker from someone in pop culture or what is politely referred to as the "leisure industry." It's all about making money.
In regards to firemen, etc. I know for a fact that companies approached cops and firefighters in NYC after 9/11 and the city refused to allow it. According to regs, all extra income has to be approved by higher ups and the higher ups thought the idea of firemen hyping soft drinks and such was disrespectful to the job.
Don't mistake celebrity endorsement for anything other than making money. Companies don't have any agedda beyond making a few bucks. And, there are entire industries aimed at selecting just the right huckster.
Tyson was Framed.
"African-American sexual morality."
I would have called it "poor white trailer-trash morality". Any young "lady" whose panties have reasonably fresh DNA from ANOTHER male besides the one being accused of "rape" is nothing more than a slut.
On the other hand, I'm from a generation that considered it a huge embarrassment to be an unwed mother...maybe having DNA from more than one man on your undies is SOP now.
At the minimum, devalue your wife and family, become an endorsement magnet for a corporation.
Bryant cheated on his wife. Everything else is speculation.
I don't think the word NO was in this girls vocabulary, no matter who the partner. She knew exactly what she was doing with Kobe, who I might add is a POS in my opinion for cheating on his wife, but my point is this girl had more than one semen sample in her panties the next day. I think if she was raped or assaulted earlier that night that she wouldn't be in the mood for more the next day wouldn't you agree?
Kobe Bryant is just as innocent of rape and assault as Bill Clinton.
And Michael Jackson is NOT a pedophile.
And Pepsi should now offer MJ a $100 mil or so to hawk its soda!
Fair is fair!
