Now, picture yourself as a vice president at Carl Jr's. You're making maybe $300,000 or $350,000. Nice house. Nice car. Kids bound for college. The ad agency comes to you and says, "We can get Paris Hilton or the guys who rescued the little girl. Your call." Figure it's about $500,000 for the endorsement, a million to shoot the add and then $10 million to buy ad time. Every market in which the ad airs must, must, must show an increase in business at the local shops or you're fired. Who do you choose?

Well, there are some creative and decent ads that sometimes run on TV. For years, Wendy's ran ads featuring their founder Dave Thomas, who was hardly a Paris Hilton hardbody. They did just fine for themselves. Subway has that Jared guy selling subs year after year. He's not exactly Tom Cruise. I don't know if Paris Hilton's ad actually increased business all that much for Carl's Jr.

I don't think it's an either/or situation. Ad agencies can take the easy or lazy way out by just hiring a celebrity to pitch a product, or they can actually put together a creative ad that costs less and improves the image of the product. Both can work. Companies can take the high road or the low road. I prefer to do business with companies on the high road. In today's America, I'm probably in the minority.

This may sound silly, but I might actually spend money to try to improve the food at Carl's Jr. and try to win customers that way! Imagine that!

Apparently, he paid her off so he could get on with his star studded life and Nike endorsements. The payoff must have been chump change by camparison.

We'll see. He just better be careful not to find himself alone with any woman in a hotel somewhere, or the whole process may start up again because of his payoff strategy. We may never find out about future extortion plots, but they could be happening as we speak.

"If Puffy finds out I didn't vote, will he come pop a cap in my ass?"

I'm sure Paffy, Puffy, Piffy, whatever, won't even try if he knows you carry a sword around all the time. He'd be under way too much pressure to make his first shot count. ;)

I don't think you're in the minority, you're probably "out of the demo" (out of the demographic) as they say. But then again, I am, too.

For the record, Dave Thomas was an interesting guy. An orphan, he was totally, totally driven to build his business. He also spent millions helping other orphans.
