Mayor May Be in a Tight Spot?
Political Grapevine ^ | 7/8/2005 | Brit Hume

Although London Mayor Ken Livingstone issued a strong condemnation of Thursday's attacks, the attacks may put him in a tight spot. Livingstone has strongly defended Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi — the so-called "Theologian of Terror," who called suicide bombings "heroic operations of martyrdom" and "divine justice," and urged Muslims to "destroy the aggressive Jews."

Last year, Livingstone invited and welcomed Al-Qaradhawi to London. And amid protests, insisted Qaradhawi was a man of "moderation and tolerance," calling his visit an "honor."

Lord Mayor was also one of the major advocates against Gitmo and wanted the release of Gitmo prisoners.

Yesterday, some reports were circulating that at least one ex-Gitmo prisoner MAY have been involved in the bombings.

Livingston yesterday seemed to be a new convert from liberalism.

Of course, shortly after 9-11, Rosie O'Donnell and some other libs were all in favor of Bush's actions (WOT). Their support soon waned when they thought it politically expedient to turn anti-Bush.

Brit Hume is such a stud. It's amazing what one can accomplish when one reports actual news, instead of forging National Guard memos or obsessing over some guy asking a question at a news conference.

We should make an offer to release the Gitmo prisoners to be settled in London.

The problem is, the political expediency to turn on Bush is predicated on the idea that 9/11 was a one-off deal and that Bush is fabricating the notion that there is a global war against Islamofascist terror.

Also, there was the notion that the terrorists were only mad at Bush and everyone else could just sit by the sidelines and watch while America was (justly in their minds) given a bloody nose.

The hard left in Britain is even harder left than our hard left and they are coming across as absolute loons.

Yeah...I noticed that during his press conference today he was being prodded by the press to somehow blame these attacks on Blair and the Iraq War, which he has opposed from the start. While I'm glad he didn't take the bait, I now see why the questions even existed. Hopefully, he's had an epiphany; if not, nothings changed after these attacks.

If you read Livingstone's "condemnation" carefully it is mostly an assurance that the influx of third-worlders into London would continue to be welcomed. He is not called "Red Ken" for nothing.

I just checked with Yahoo and CNN. They both reported Livingstone's remarks without the embarrassing context. Liberals are like that guy in Memento who can't remember anything for longer than five minutes. Thank God we have people with long-term memory like Brit Hume and Ann Coulter who immediately point out the contradictions of the left.

This article doesn't begin to do justice to Mayor Livingstone. He's a total anti-Bush lunatic. He's on record saying that Bush is the greatest danger facing the world today and “this really is a completely unsupportable government and I look forward to it being overthrown as much as I looked forward to Saddam Hussein being overthrown.”

These attitudes and comments must not be forgotten in our natural rush to sympathize with all things British. The "Brits" are our oldest friends but Mayor Livingstone and his supporters are enemies of our freedom and our way of life.

Red Ken, like most of the left, loves the Islamo-fascists but just doesn't like it when they set off bombs in HIS city..... so long as Islamo-fascists are killing Americans, Iraqis, etc. they are just fine. Bring the terror to the streets of London and suddenly Red Ken isn't so happy with them....

In the same article:

Blair To Blame? "George Galloway, the British Member of Parliament who's been accused of taking money from Saddam Hussein's regime, says British Prime Minister Tony Blair is to blame for Thursday's attacks in London, insisting Londoners have now "paid the price" for his decisions to invade Iraq and Afghanistan.

Galloway says, "The loss of innocent lives ... is precisely the result of a world that has become a less safe and peaceful place in recent years. ... We argued ... that the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq would increase the threat of terrorist attack in Britain. Tragically ... the government ignor[ed] such warnings."

You are correct. Everywhere else in the Establishment Media, this London Mayor guy is the second coming of Winston Churchill.

"We will bear any burden, pay any price, to try to understand the root causes of why these troubled souls hate us as much as anyone would naturally hate America."

"Also, there was the notion that the terrorists were only mad at Bush..."

And what's missing from this argument is that prior to 9/11...and especially during Bush's 2000 campaign run, Bush was pledging an almost isolationist-style platform. He was opposed to "nation-building" and was even talking of withdrawing US troops from other parts of the world; he was speaking of a humble foreign policy.

In other words, Bush was saying all those things that liberals and terrorists demanded. When you combine this with the previous administrations appeasement policies and desire to give the Palis all they wanted WRT Israel and Mid-East peace, the US...under both administrations, never posed a threat to any of these people. Yet, we were still attacked on 9/11.

You are correct. I recall in the 2000 debates, Gore was browbeating Bush because his father didn't "finish the job" and kill Saddam.

Oh, yeah. I saw (and wrote) on Galloway's comments yesterday as he caused quite a stir when he made his speech. I saw a lot of people saying that the Brits would respond appropriately to this attack...refering to their courage during the Blitz.

Unfortunately, I just don't share this same faith. Unlike America who has a very vocal liberal element, the UK's liberal element is very much apart of their governing majority...as it is in much of Europe. After 9/11, I hoped that we (liberals and conservatives) could unite under common-cause. That hope lasted but a week.

You hit the nail smack-dab dead center.
How can any logical person not see that these terrorists want to eradicate us-plain and simple. There is nothing civilzed people can do short of drinking the kool-aid that will satisfy these animals.
Lets take a few of them with us and not just kneel in front of them!

It is past time for London to elect a new mayor and not one, who loves the mass murdering Jihadists:

Is it any wonder who puts these ridiculous ideas in his head?
