I thought their cops didn't carry guns.

That was before they started to carry carry guns.

Has the ACLU sued the cops yet? Be patient a little, give em time.

So are London police officers now armed?

A lot of them are. A decade ago I purchased a couple of dozen of nice Smith & Wesson model 10s that had been issued to the London police. They had British proof marks and a fair amount of holster wear, but shot very well. The importer that I got them from said that he was able to obtain them because the London police were converting to Glocks (9mm semi-autos).

The fact that this incident was "leaked" and "reported" like it was, leaves me to believe that we obviously do not have, and will never have, the "full" scope of what happened...

Somebody, somewhere, will ask more about this, and by that time someone else will have cooked up a plausible senario and explanation, and that'll be that...

Remember control and distribution of the dis-information is key...For some reason they feel its important to be able to do this whenever they can...

Me??? I'm just a junior level conspiracy theorist...

So the head terrorjerks are left wondering if these two are really dead. . . or squealing like a pig?

My sister said on Thursday that this happened at Canary Wharf!

My sister just moved back to the US 2 weeks ago after living in the UK for 15 years. Her boyfriend in London called her on Thursday after the bombings to say that he was OK and told her that a bomber had been shot at Canary Wharf by police. I didn't really believe her at the time thinking it was probably just panicked rumors.

Perhaps I was wrong.

police officers in london are generally not armed.

This just blows my mind. The average Texas homeowner is probably better equipped to handle an armed burgler than a policeman in London.

They might, if the government insisted. I trust the truth will come out somehow.

More and more people are suggesting it might happen again on the way home, which certainly scares me away from getting a bus. I can't get a tube because the whole system is shut down. I don't think I'd take one if I could.

I have a 10-kilometre walk home from here and I'm not sure how safe I will be when I get there. The radio is saying they shot dead a suicide bomber at Canary Wharf and that's right opposite my apartment across the river (Thames).

From the Ottawa Citizen, July 8th. It was an interview with James Starnes, a sound engineer from Ottawa, living in London.

All in all, not a bad shift for the Kiwis. Hand 'em some medals and hoist 'em some brews.

This happened in London. No New Zealander shot anybody.

If I see an a young Arab male with a white undershirt showing who smells like frankincense and who raises his hands and starts to say something like "Allah....". That's as far as he will get before I bust a cap. You see, in Texas, we are legally packin'. I say we start polygraphing every muslim that we even vaguely suspect and if they are sympathetic to terrorists, we deport them. Better yet, we EXPAND GITMO!

Are you kidding me?

If you were a cop and you could shoot a suicide bomber who was threatening an over 42 floor HSBC tower, I think you would shoot to kill.

Additionally the cop may have been assigned to protect the building for all we know.

Exactly, sounds like 8,000 or so witnesses as to at least whether they were told to stay in the building.

Sure wouldn't like being told to stay in a building.

Would they really tell them to remain in the building for at least 6 hours?

Imagine being the person being told to do this.

As poster redlady said the remain in the building part should be easy to confirm, 8,000 or so witnesses.

Presumably, there were lots of people in various parts of London being told to stay put that AM. Not unusual, given everything else happening at the time.
