Announcing: Freeper Activism Skills Exchange Thread

Posted on 07/09/2005 9:12:04 AM PDT by Maceman

Yesterday I posted a thread about an political activism project I'm working on, and asked Freepers with particular skills or expertise to contact me if they think they might like to help.

We have a LOT of talented people with numerous specialized skill sets on FR, and I believe that it is in keeping with the spirit of the website to establish some type of formalized Skills Exchange area.

If you have a political activism project that needs special skills, or if you have skills and are willing to donate a little time to the right project, then this is the place to let everyone know.

I hope the moderators agree that this is a worthwhile function here on FR, and I hope to make this a regular, if not a daily thread.

In the meantime, we are still looking for skilled people to help with our project here in Massachusetts. But you don't necessarily have to live here to help.

Here is what I posted yesterday:

I and a colleague are in the process of setting up a non-profit political action/advocacy group in Massachusetts.

We have a specific focus which I will not go into here at the moment, but the project timeline is tied to the next 15 months between now and the '06 elections.

I would like to know what Freeper talents might be available out there to help us in our efforts.

I am hoping that if you get juiced about this project, which I think a number of you will, you might be willing to help us by providing information and helpful suggestions, and by donating a little time using your particular skill sets to advance the mission.

At the moment we are looking for the specific types of skills listed below, but would love to build a database of anyone who might now or in the future be willing to give some time and expertise to help us in any area.

Right now we have little or no money to spend, although I expect that to change as we developing our funding sources and methods.

In the meantime, here is what we need right now:

1) Massachesetts videographer. We have an idea for a video commercial, and need a videographer to make it happen.

2) People experienced with the mechanics and procedures of setting up PACs, Foundations, non-profits, etc. Lawyers especially appreciated.

3) Graphic designers

4) Web designers

If you don't have the time or skills to help us, we will appreciate a referral or a ping to anyone you know who might.

We have very ambitious aspirations and not a lot of time, so we need all the talents and support we can muster.

I will explain the project to anyone who Freepmails me.

As always, thanks to my fellow Freepers.

I think your idea about building some sort of political activism resource for FReepers to draw on is an excellent one, though I also think that it might work better as a separate board rather than a daily thread. Regardless, I will be watching with interest.

However, as to drumming up helpers with your current project, I think you might get more takers if you explain up front just what it is about, rather than being coy and saying "mail me for info." FReepers have their pet projects just like everyone else, and some people might be willing to help with, oh, say, an eminent domain issue, who would not be willing to spend time on a prolife issue. Or vice versa.

I've made that suggestion several times only to have posts or threads removed for "solicitation"...there is a dedicated arm of this site in which people want to get involved and just need to know how...

I agree with your idea about a separate link, maybe from the homepage. Locality, skills and abilities could be located. FReepers could stop in and do another "about" page for what they could offer. I don't know if it would turn into a classified ad section or what but the idea is a viable one.

Your point is well taken. We are not quite ready yet to publicly describe our project, but I expect that to change soon.

We need to get a few more ducks lined up before going public. When we do, we intend to launch the public face of our project in an organized and well-planned fashion.

But right now we think it makes more sense to first get our organization legally established and have at least a rudimentary website set up before announcing our launch.

I'm a draftee REMF from a Blue (with no help from me) state. Is it all right for me to be part of this discussion?
Maceman, I wish there was a way I could help. I'm from NH (the only state to go from Red to Blue in the last election) and we have troubles enough of our own. Most of those troubles are not caused by the Dimlycrats but by our own home-grown RINOs who think the answer to everything is more taxing and spending and the more abortions the better :(

Not too clear about what you are doing, and I am pretty sure my idea won't fit, but here goes anyway: I would like to see a 'site' or 'place' that is dedicated to Christians praying daily for the conversion of Muslims to Christianity. I believe in the power of prayer and that one of the most effective 'weapons' against terrorism would be a massive commitment by Christians (actually any and all non-Muslims) to pray for the conversion of Muslims. This post may end up being pulled, and that's OK. Just passing along an idea of one 'ole goat' who likes FR. Thanks.

I had set of a form called the "Eagle Works" on Free Republic Network web site at http://ice.he.net/~freepnet/index.html to do similar to what you propose. But there wasn't much interest in it a few years back. I hope you have better luck.

I think you might enjoy this very much if you haven't already been there. I think the libs have totally taken it over... and they TRY so hard! : )

I need the help of some New York FReepers to find someone who will go on record from the Hassidic Jewish community that gave virtually 100% of its votes to Hillary after members were pardoned for fraud.
