New Battlestar Galactica on NBC now

They are showing some of the best episodes of the new battlestar galactica on NBC now. Personally I think this is one of the most intersting shows on TV and would recommend it to fellow freepers who havent already seen it on Scifi or Sky. The stuff about a surprise attack by terrorists and suicide bombers driven by religious fanaticism will seem very similar to many. There is also an episode where left wing activists try to demonize the militrey during a war for political gain ( this is actually one of the recurring human villians) I have no idea what the political leanings are, but its good tv.
BTW for any Hindu Brahmins out there, the opening credit "song" is the Gayatri Mantra in a thick thick western accent.

I noticed a thread about it being anti christian. I think it seems more about violent Islam with it's suicide bombers and genocidal tendencies.

Watched the series during its first season. Quite a contrast from the 80's version.
I get irritated with the characters. They still have their pre-Cylon invasion mindset at times. (Shades of many here seeming to slip back into a pre-911 mindset.)
Looking forward to the new season.

it should be called BSG: 90210.

Hear, hear! I cannot emphasize this enough! I just wish I could post a pic...
Otherwise, the show is really awesome. I didn't like the pilot, but after that, the show really took off. I hope they get a FULL season this year!

I thought it was anti-Christian at first, as well. But, the religeous fanatacism and murderous behavior of the Cylons is definitely more of the Muslim variety.
Christians haven't murdered people and wrecked civilization in the name of God for a while, now! It's been a few hundred years, right? It can't be anti-Christian! :)
Flame away, guys...

But, it did become too much the Starbuck show! There's nothing she can't do better than anyone in the fleet. Fight, fly, shoot, negotiate,.....

Im definitely going to order a Number 6 as soon as I can also make a chip that blocks her from appearing when I am otherwise...busy.
No matter how hot a babe might be I don't like it when she just appears out of nowhere.

Have had this thought too that you express about the show about the comparisons of the show to the present.

I can see I'm gonna have to start watching that show. Liked the original, too.

It's more like the plight of the Spanish Protestants in the 1500s than it is anything modern.
The situation differs from that of the Huguenots because their entire society, including the hidden Jews and Moslems (Morenos), were against them and quite willing to turn them in to the authorities. It was like being a human in a world filled with Cylons!

Like I said, and you would miss it since it's way down from your post, it's more like the plight of the Spanish Protestants in the 1500s than anything else.

I noticed a thread about it being anti christian. I think it seems more about violent Islam with it's suicide bombers and genocidal tendencies. It does leave a lot of food for thought. The Colonials seem to be polytheistic on the surface, but there are a few hints dropped here and there they also believe in an over-arching God. And they definitely believe in an afterlife modeled on your conduct in this world. Reminds me a bit of the Catholic Church, with its hierarchy of saints, angels, the Holy Trinity, etc. The Cylons, on the other hand, insist that "There is no God but...."

a LOT of whining.
The new starbuck is just another stereotypical female acting like a man on steroids characature.
It has much potential if it does not fall more into the PC abyss.

I'm here at FR because its the biggest soap-opera sci-fi POS I've seen in a while.

When a bunch of us watched the first episode, the first thing we wanted to know (since learning the Cylons now had human forms - obviously making things a lot cheaper, costume-wise) was
"where did they have their red lights?" - since, after all, they couldn't
really be
Cylons without a red light, huh?
Utter pandemonium ensued when we finally saw where she kept her red light(s) - and what it took to light them! :D

It might be good TV ,but NBC is not.
To: solitas
That was just an absudity that caused me to roll my eyes.
So they turned Battlestar Galactica into Interbreeding Pornogrifa.
They started with a hitlary clintoneque president (takes a village schoolteacher? pahleeeze!), a P.C. starbuck, mix it with soap opera writing software, and stir with very good special effects and produce an excuse for a few cheesecake centerfols for Maxim magazine.
To: cabojoe
all of this version of boomer is cylon.
there is no "human" boomer.
To: solitas
When a bunch of us watched the first episode, the first thing we wanted to know......who Charlie was? Who are you - Farrah Fawcett? Cheryl Ladd? Shelley Hack? Jaclyn Smith? Tanya Roberts? Kate Jackson?
C'mon. Fess up...

They're putting this on NBC so that those of us with HD sets can see it in aal of it's high resolution glory. Rumor is NBC's mulling bringing it over to the main broadcast net from SciFi.
In other BSG news, I heard #6 got a job earth-side working on 'upgrades' to the X-45C:

Gee a hollyweird production which advocates the medicial use of a psychedelic herb...
I agree, it would be a nice chance of hollyweird writing for a charter to DIE like advertised.

Nah - we wanted to know about the red lights. I'd heard an interview she did before the show premiered - looks pretty enough; but it's got bugs crawling out of it.
