Need Help Freepers: Questions for Islamic cleric

Posted on 07/11/2005 10:01:47 AM PDT by Infantry Grunt 1968-69

In a couple of weeks our Sunday School class will have some kind of Islamic cleric as a guest. Just thought you guys could provide a few appropriate questions to ask this man from the religion of peace. Just an FYI, some in the class are liberal anti-Bushers and want to "understand" why they hate us. I know I can count on you.

Why does the vast majority of Islam remain silent when innocents are slaughtered?

I'm not meaning to be rude but this should be your first clue

Run from that church as fast as possible....there are no questions that you need to ask!!!

Ask if amputations and beheadings are strictly reserved for after Friday prayers.

ask him how many notable terrorist acts in the past 15 years have been carried out by people who were NOT followers of islam.

or find some quotes in the koran about how it's ok to kill infidels and ask him how he interprets these passages.

I think the main issue you should ask about is jihad. The Koran makes it very clear that jihad ("struggle" in Arabic)is the spreading of Islam through warfare. However, Muslims on TV often say that jihad just means the personal struggle for self-improvement.

Point out that maybe it means both, but the Koran definitely says it is the former. So ask him: how can we tell whena Muslim says: "jihad" he means the latter, not the former.

Ask him what the lumps are around his waist and why there are wires protruding from his robe.

Here is a civil question to ask. The Koran has places where it reverses itself a time or too later in the book from earlier verses.... Ask him if the later verses and "laws" supersede the earlier.... if he say no.... Hes a fool and not worth you time. If he says yes.... pack up your family and run like hell. If he remains silent or gives you some bull about how the Koran doesn't contradict itself... Pack up your family and run!

Ask him if it is ever considered wrong for a Muslim to kill a Christian or Jew.

some kind of Islamic cleric as a guest

Muslims come in different sects just like Christians. It's going to be like asking a Baptist what the Mormons are doing.

Ask him why there is enough religion in the world to incite war, and not enough religion to instill peace.

This is in response to another thread, but could you ask him if this is true:

Here's what I was told by an Iranian Muslim -- what's located in the center at Mecca is the alter on which the sacrifice required by Abraham was to be made. The alter was moved to Mecca? I didn't ask a lot of questions. At the time (pre 9/11) I only had a passing interest in the story, so I wouldn't bet the farm on all of it ... but I do know the building in the center of Mecca is connected to Abraham.

My concern is cultures have myths they live by -- myths that get incorporated in ways that aren't challenged. And near absolute authority is one of those... Each Imam has the power to sentence a person to death. This doesn't exist in modern religions. When UBL wanted permission to nuke the US, he didn't have to get "permission" beyond the equivalent of a parish priest. Frightening. It implies worse.

Too many ideas have gone unchallenged in the middle east - and within their xenophobic cultures, it's fine, well, fine until they come in contact with others. Then it's deadly. Lots of puzzle pieces to be put together - but this I know -- understanding the enemy opens up one more level we can fight them on...

What is the policy of Islam towards apostates? And if they renounce Islam for a second time, what is the policy then?

The Koran says it is acceptable (or is it recommended?) to mislead and lie to infidels. Does he agree with this? Are you (and the rest) unclean and therefore can be lied to about intentions?

What is jihad? It'll make him uncomfortable, but if he says self improvement, then you can ask "Why does the news refer to the war as a Jihad? I don't understand."

Assuming that he's an American Muslim, ask him if he agrees that it's okay to shoot at American troops in Iraq.

Make him squirm right away.
Ask if Jews have a right to exist and practice their religion?

Ask why it's ok to burn Bibles in Saudi Arabia- and allow NO other religion- but it's not ok if the West does it?

Ask if the regular everyday Muslim would mind if Islam took over the world as the result of terrorism? Do they really have a problem with the 'means' if the 'end' is what they want?

Ask how they can be a 'good Muslim' if they don't follow the Koran in killing all infidels.

If he's not out the door with the first one, he won't last long.
