The identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame was compromised twice before her name appeared in a news column that triggered a federal illegal-disclosure investigation, U.S. officials say.

Mrs. Plame's identity as an undercover CIA officer was first disclosed to Russia in the mid-1990s by a Moscow spy, said officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

In a second compromise, officials said a more recent inadvertent disclosure resulted in references to Mrs. Plame in confidential documents sent by the CIA to the U.S. Interests Section of the Swiss Embassy in Havana.

The documents were supposed to be sealed from the Cuban government, but intelligence officials said the Cubans read the classified material and learned the secrets contained in them, the officials said.

Washington Times

First, the C.I.A. suspected that Aldrich Ames had given Mrs. Wilson's name (along with those of other spies) to the Russians before his espionage arrest in 1994. So her undercover security was undermined at that time, and she was brought back to Washington for safety reasons.

Also reported by Newsmax:

"The C.I.A. suspected that Aldrich Ames had given [Plame's] name [along with those of other spies] to the Russians before his espionage arrest in 1994. So her undercover security was undermined at that time, and she was brought back to Washington for safety reasons."

Amazing title - Dims stay neck-deep in their own excrement and can't smell sh*t, but consider someone's response to clarify left-wing lies and deceptions to be a stinking scandal.

Plame was "outed" in 1994 to the Russians by Aldrich Ames, that is why she was reassigned to desk duties in DC as an analyst, she was not covert.

Really? Got a source on this? Would be interesting if true!

Rove has committed no crime, no immoral act, nothing wrong. Even if he did inadvertently or intentionally mention a former CIA agent, so what. My wife went to college with two guys who went to work for the CIA. Would it be a crime if she said their names.

Now I know why the RATS are called DUmmies.

"Wilson' wife, who apparently works at the agency"

It's pretty clear what happened here. Cooper asked why Wilson was sent to Niger, and Rove said the trip was arranged " . . . by his wife, who works at the agency." Many in Washington apparently knew Wilson's wife worked at the agency, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the loudmouth Wilson who was the original source of the info. At any rate, this exchange makes it clear that Rove wasn't trying to "out" Plame or "punish" Wilson - in response to a question, he was just explaining what happened. Some scandal. (sarcasm)

The only scandal they are smelling emanates from themselves, IMO.

Yep. They're smelling their upper lip and hoping the stench is coming from somewhere else.

The Dims are DREAMING if they think Rove is going anywhere.....

Wouldn't it be nice if the Dims actually cared about representing their consituents and actually doing the country's business instead of playing "gotcha" politics? Wouldn't it be nice if just once they'd offer a plan of action that didn't involve hanging a 'Pubbie? Opps, wait, now I'm dreaming........

McClellan has never been very good, and yesterday he was at his worst. He should have put that little prick David Gregory in his place and said, "We are not going to comment further on an ongoing investigation. Mr Rove's attorney has made a statement, the President is satisfied with that statement, and we are not going to add to that at this time. Period."

People seem to have forgotton how Grand Jury's work. The original intent of their being convened may be far from their final outcome. If they uncover side issues that they deem worthy of investigation they will investigate. A person that is totally irrelevant to the original investigation may wind up getting indicted on an un-related charge......

So, what does Matt Cooper do for the rest of his life? drive a bus? First he hands his notes on super deep background over to the court, and then he leaks his email to Iakoff. He comes off as a real slimeball. Isn't all this fuss about Rove just a coverup for revealing what a creep Cooper is? I'll wait for the prosecutor to finish his investigation before deciding about Rove, but I know what I think of Cooper, now.

The MSM is just responding to the 'call from Hillary' to put more effort into investigating and focusing on the Bush Administration. The MSM has responded loudly and clearly!!

No one is more politically brilliant than Karl Rove. He is a strategist without peers.

With that said, why are the democRats insisting on pressing this issue, which obviously is going to back fire on them, and make them AND Howie Dean look even dumber than they actually are???? The democRats are going to come out of this looking like asses. But wait.....the ass IS their national party symbol isn't it. And the biggest ass in the USA is their party chairman, Dr. Demento. Enough said???

hehehehehe

Uh, Cooper didn't turn over any emails, it was his employer. Cooper claims that he was ready to go to jail to protect the source.

The whole point here is this: The RATS know that Rove is the mastermind that defeated them in the last election and they are out to get him. That is it, plain and simple. Getting Rove demoted is necessary for the DUmmies to win more elections. This has nothing to do with Rove doing anything illegal.

Great idea!! Better still, how about having President Bush give Karl Rove a lifetime appointment to SCOTUS?? If you REALLY want to drive the democRats crazy, that would do it for sure!!

I'm well aware of what this is REALLY about, but I still can't believe the democRats are falling into the trap. Just when you think that the democRats can't get any dumber, they do......
