Sen. McCain [R-AZ] Strong Words On Supreme Ct Nomination at Dallas Fundraiser: 'During the campaign, President Bush said he will appoint judges who will strictly interpret the constitution... thinking anything else is either amnesia or ignorance... elections have consequences... whomever he nominates deserves an up or down vote and no filibuster... and an up or down vote is what we will have'...
Ever heard the term "Recess Appointment?" It's been done before for Supreme Court nominees...
He's only on our side right now - just wait!
WTH?
By my calculation, we need THREE conservatives selected to replace O'conner, Renquist, and TBD (Stevens, Ginsberg). Conservatives should settle for nothing less. Why should we?
Maybe McCain really is serious about wanting to be President.
I will support Sen McCain's candidacy, Never,
I think 2 very strong Conservatives would swing the court towards the limited duties defined in the Constitution though I certainly would like 3. I believe a moderate conservative (if there is such an animal) nominated by Bush to the Court of Scalia or Thomas with two other strong conservatives appointed would be very much inclined to lean toward the Constitution for decisions or at least to the right.
His national defense positions are palatable, but if the world were sane, there would be plenty of Democrats with those positions.
I think McCain is a net liability. The adulation he enjoys from the MSM is won by pandering -- well it is not exactly pandering; he seems to think their thoughts instinctively. But with all that bad, the GOP has to go ahead and cash in on the good. His desire to be President, though quixotic, does produce some results for the good guys.
Something I surmise from McCain's move is that the MSM is not going to go to the mattresses for the Democrats on the Supreme Court appointments. They'll help the Dems, but not pull out all the stops by any means.
McCain is the Jim Jeffords of the GOP. nuff said
he will do a cant we get along
What do you make of this? This tells me that his polling people think that it is a winning issue for the President and a losing one for filibustering by the Dems in the Senate. McCain is not stupid -- don't trust him but would say that the polls favor an up or down vote not a filibuster.
and series!!!
If I were elected to the Senate, my first sworn act would be to put my foot up Dead Kennnedy's ass. NSNR
McCain must of read some of his e-mails.
Oh, I can't.......won't believe that.
What a nightmare.
lmao......thanks for the laugh.
McCain will never get a break, or a vote from me.
Ping
Well said. Think you summed it up well.
He's doing the same thing HRC is.......trying to change his colors for 2008.
