Cooper, like Rather, wanted to believe their story was true and passionately wanted to hurt this administration.
To: Shermy
According to Luskin, Cooper originally called Rove not the other way around and said he was working on a story on welfare reform. After some conversation about that issue, Luskin said, Cooper changed the subject to the weapons of mass destruction issue, and that was when the two had the brief talk that became the subject of so much legal wrangling. According to Luskin, the fact that Rove did not call Cooper; that the original purpose of the call, as Cooper told Rove, was welfare reform; that only after Cooper brought the WMD issue up did Rove discuss Wilson all are "indications that this was not a calculated effort by the White House to get this story out."This just blew up in Coopers face....there is no doubt White House Phone logs....and Luskin would not have brought up who called who first without the proof to back his client up.
Cooper just got caught in a trap.

Why would Rove or any other Republican official trust, let alone talk to, the reporters from Time, NewsWeek or the NYT etc.
These left-wing rags don't publish any facts anyway so there is no point giving them background for a story.
To: Steven W.
Why would Cooper name Rove as his confidant when he was not bound by any confidentiality?
Why is the other reporterette not naming names? ...her name must not be a republican?

"Prime suspect #1. Joe Wilson
Suspect #2. George Tenet (Shermy's call and one I havd never considered)
Suspect #3.Cooper himself. It is quite plausible that during the course of Cooper's career, that he could have stumbled upon the connection between Wilson and his wife."
Since Matthew Cooper is MR. Mandy Grunwald (and SHE is one of Hillary's best buddies), I would add the Clintons to the list of suspects.

This is a non-story... The real story is who leaked the information to the New York Times Reporter, Miller.

Good point. If they didn't though, then there would never be any sort of counter to the lies. It sure has to be frustrating though...

Media hyped... and a prosecutor out for Rove's hide. They pull off a minor victory just with all the implied allegations.
We can't win in this game... you got a stacked deck and most of the other players have extra cards.

Matthews, Gregory, etc. do not have a clue that nobody in the entire county gives a damn about Karl Rove other than the lunatic left. LOL! So true. Yesterday I was trying to explain to my wife who and what the deal was with this case. She's very smart, but doesn't give a damn about political intrigue. Her basic response: "This isn't news. Who cares about any of it?"
The Democrat Party and the MSM are imploding right in front of our eyes. It isn't even worth one word from our side. These people are not living in the real world!!!
Indeed. The spur for our conversation was an NPR story that tossed out names and details that require one to have followed the story in some detail since its inception. The story was and is utterly irrelevant, except insofar as it helps to provide political traction for the next round of partisan crap. By pursuing this stuff, the D's and MSM are indeed marginalizing themselves from normal folks. (And this, IMHO, helps to explain the red/blue dichotomy on the electoral maps.)

"it was, KR said, wilson's wife, who apparently works at the agency on wmd issues who authorized the trip." Suspect #3.Cooper himself.
The language of the email is ambiguous. It's possible that all Rove said was "Wilson's wife authorized the trip." The "who apparently works at the agency on wmd issues" clause could just be Cooper's own background knowledge. It isn't clear from the email.

If Cooper is Mandy Grundwalds soulmate, the deception believably contrived and left agenda driven. Does anyone think the Clintonistas would hesitate to behave in a manner like this. I believe they would. I expect them to.

It is quite plausible that during the course of Cooper's career, that he could have stumbled upon the connection between Wilson and his wife.
Actually, until the day after the Novak story, you could find this out just by Googling Joe Wilson and looking at his home page. She's not undercover and hasn't been for years. She's an intelligence analyst.
