'I'm not a candidate for the Supreme Court' -- and that remains true today," Gonzales said.

"I love being attorney general. My job, currently, is to help the president make this decision," he added.

I'm not much of a pessimist, but there seems to be some wiggle room in there.

How's he doing as AG, anyway? And why all the travelling and photo ops with the President? Inquiring minds. . .

That was my first thought, he wants Rehnquist's seat.

Pure and simple, Gonzales got the word from on high that he wasn't going to get the nod this time around.

Ergo, the "I don't want the spot" routine.

I will now treat myself to a Dove Ice Cream bar in celebration. Maybe even slip over to DU for a few moments to observe a wake up close and personal.

Probably posturing for a Senate race down the road.

Albert, fibbing is good training for a lawyer to become a justice. You fit the mold of another loser.

Gonzales is an incredibly intelligent guy. You found a goofy picture.

I don't think he'll be nominated, but I will point out that he personally vetted and approved all the judges that Bush has nominated so far.

Unless you can name the ones you oppose, then perhaps you might temper your criticism of Gonzales.

I think this is a telegraphing to the base.

The WH could not say it so Gonzalez said it.

OK so who IS acceptable?

"Gonzales told the Denver Post he's not seeking an appointment......."

Key word. He is not seeking, but that does not mean he won't accept if President Bush asks him.

Why do I get the feeling the hard, hard right is going to keep insisting that Gonzales is in line for SCOTUS the way the left/MSM is insisting Rove outed a CIA agent?
