Karl Rove, Whistleblower

He told the truth about Joe Wilson.

Wednesday, July 13, 2005 12:01 a.m. EDT

Democrats and most of the Beltway press corps are baying for Karl Rove's head over his role in exposing a case of CIA nepotism involving Joe Wilson and his wife, Valerie Plame. On the contrary, we'd say the White House political guru deserves a prize--perhaps the next iteration of the "Truth-Telling" award that The Nation magazine bestowed upon Mr. Wilson before the Senate Intelligence Committee exposed him as a fraud.

Onky a Grand Jury will know. Trial in the papers is usualy comments from one side or the other trying to win publlic opinion. Yes, ROVE has been a target, but I want an impartial jury to indict or nulle prosequi.

K - take this bit of info back to DU: At the time of her "outing," Plame hadn't been a confidential agent in NINE YEARS. She was just another analyst hanging out at Headquarters.

She also was mentioned on Joe Wilson's website and in his "Who's Who" entry, and was well-known on the cocktail party circuit.

Not exactly Ms. Mysterious.

Guess I'll be branded a lurker or what ever, but I am an arch Conservative and there isn't one law for some and another law for the politically connected.

No, you'll be branded as misinformed.

I'll state it as simply as I can: No...law...was...broken. Not by Karl Rove, at any rate.

Did they take it back?

Not only did they not take it back, I hear they're going to give him a "Double Super-Duper Truth Telling" award with one of those REALLY BIG winged angel types on top.

Apparently, Valerie Plame was one of the operatives "outed" by Aldridge Ames to the Russians in the early nineties. That's why she was pulled from the field. Both to protect her, and because her cover was blown. That's why she was given the desk job at Langley, because she was no longer useful in the field.

How do you "out" somebody *twice*?

Onky a Grand Jury will know.

What has to happen for a grand jury to get the case? I would guess the prosecutor has to present evidence that a crime has been committed and points to a likely perp. It appears this prosecutor is aggressively pursuing the case, so if he comes up empty it should convince all but the Bush haters that Rove is clean.

What has to happen for a grand jury to get the case?

A grand jury already has the case.

Rove has testified on three separate occasions.

But nary a word has been leaked about any of the testimony, from anybody.

The grand jury expires in October, so any indictments or other action will take place before then.

What you will be branded is somebody who is ignorant of the FACTS in this case.

What law did he break?

I'm starting to believe that all the hysteria we are seeing from the Communist DemocRATS and their toadies in the "media" is a result of their frustration over Wilson, his NYT op-ed and his phony novel turning out to be nothing but a pack of Commie lies that flopped bigtime. They are trying to salvage something out of their Commie fiasco. I still would like to know WHO paid for Joey Wilson's Yellow Cake Junket to Niger. It appears that he was "on assignment" for the New York Times. I hope it wasn't the U.S. taxpayers who picked up the tab. I have already inquired to both my Senators to provide me with this information.

Even the Washington Post agrees with you:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A39834-2004Jul9.html

Wilson last year launched a public firestorm with his accusations that the administration had manipulated intelligence to build a case for war. He has said that his trip to Niger should have laid to rest any notion that Iraq sought uranium there and has said his findings were ignored by the White House.

Wilson's assertions -- both about what he found in Niger and what the Bush administration did with the information -- were undermined yesterday in a bipartisan Senate intelligence committee report.

The panel found that Wilson's report, rather than debunking intelligence about purported uranium sales to Iraq, as he has said, bolstered the case for most intelligence analysts. And contrary to Wilson's assertions and even the government's previous statements, the CIA did not tell the White House it had qualms about the reliability of the Africa intelligence that made its way into 16 fateful words in President Bush's January 2003 State of the Union address.

Yesterday's report said that whether Iraq sought to buy lightly enriched "yellowcake" uranium from Niger is one of the few bits of prewar intelligence that remains an open question. Much of the rest of the intelligence suggesting a buildup of weapons of mass destruction was unfounded, the report said.

The report turns a harsh spotlight on what Wilson has said about his role in gathering prewar intelligence, most pointedly by asserting that his wife, CIA employee Valerie Plame, recommended him.

How do you "out" somebody *twice*?

There is always another generation of enemy agents coming up. So our guys have to be outed at least once every 10 years or so to ensure everyone is up to speed.
