Novak: Plame Source 'No Partisan Gunslinger'
NewsMax.com ^ | July 12, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

The Washington press corps and their Democratic friends have been too busy this week chasing down Karl Rove to notice that columnist Robert Novak has offered a tantalizing clue about the identity of just who it was who leaked Valerie Plame's name to him back in July 2003.

And judging from Novak's revelation - it wasn't Karl Rove.

Apparently it's been a while since any of the big media's newshounds bothered to read Novak's follow-up column on the Plame case on Oct. 1, 2003, where he talked about the man (woman?) who spilled Plame's name and thereby, according to Dems, committed the crime of the century.

"During a long conversation with a senior administration official," he wrote, "I asked why Wilson was assigned the mission to Niger. He said Wilson had been sent by the CIA's counterproliferation section at the suggestion of one of its employees, his wife. It was an offhand revelation from this official, who is no partisan gunslinger."

No partisan gunslinger?

Even fans of Mr. Rove would be hard-presseed to deny he's a "partisan gunslinger" - just the kind of person Novak says his leaker wasn't.

Could Novak have been lying to protect Mr. Rove? Perhaps. But by the time he wrote the above words, the Plame leak was already under investigation by the Justice Department, a develpoment that would have guaranteed that he'd have to repeat that falsehood under oath.

I would say that suggests Tenet may be the culprit. He was appointed by Clinton, and kept by Bush.

The funny thing is when the media went after a journalist it despised, they found themselves hoist on their own petard. And what's more, it looks like the Rove angle is going to turn up dry.

Rove has already testified in this case. The press is just flat out insane in their desire to see him fired. So much so, that they ignore all facts and operate on hatred and emotion. A typical example of liberalism. Sickening.

Alan Foley. Novak would have the kind of connection to get on the phone with Foley.

Rove is just a pawn in the great chess game set for when the president announces his pick for the Supreme Court. The media needs to keep its' claws sharpened so they can attack the nominee with as much viciousness as it has with the Bolton nomination. Watch for Russert to come out of hiding and for McCain to once again become a ''regular'' on the Imus (yawning) show.

Yes, but such activity at least keeps their sail looking billowed instead of flapping aimlessly, which would be the sum total of their message otherwise. They're at least keeping up the appearance that politics is slimy on both sides of the aisle, as if to say to their constituents, "Move along, nothing to see here. Go back to sleep." That same-old-same-old is a far better approach in their minds than admitting to their fears of their political sky truly falling---which is happening.

They just didn't have a winning argument when they tried to crucify Drudge and thereby, all those like him on the Internet.

Excuse my ignorance, but why isn't Novak being threatened with/in jail like the other reporters? Has he already testified?

The Dems figure they get decent mileage out of
the constant repetition technique. And the "code
words" are faxed to every biggie with a mic
in front of him/her each morning! Even FOXNEWS
gets it. This was revealed once again yesterday
a.m. by E.D. Hill. She said she got her "package"
script from the Dem source and read through it to
see what she could/should use when she went on the
air.

I think you're on to something. Tenet and Berger should share a cell.

Yup.

He would certainly qualify as a "senior" member of GWB's administration....

This scandal is perfectly illustrating how weak the dino media has become. They are giving it their all -- front page, above the fold headlines etc. -- and very few care.

Further, I suspect that most of those who are paying attention are finding themselves in sympathy with Rove/Bush/Novak.
