Karl Rove Should Get a Medal (Good Opinion piece by John Gibson)
Fox News ^ | 7/13/05 | John Gibson

Posted on 07/13/2005 9:06:03 AM PDT by areafiftyone

I say give Karl Rove (search) a medal, even if Bush has to fire him.

Why? Because Valerie Plame (search) should have been outed by somebody. And if nobody else had the cojones to do it, I'm glad Rove did — if he did do it, and he still says he didn't.

Why should she have been outed? Well despite her husband's repeated denials, even in the face of a pile of evidence and conclusions from a Senate investigation, it appears all evidence points to Joe Wilson's wife, spy Valerie Plame, as the one who recommended him for the job of going to Niger to discover is Saddam was trying to buy nuke bomb materials.

Why is this important? Because Wilson was opposed to the war in Iraq, opposed to Bush policy, and pointedly and loudly said so.

Consequently, it was of some interest how he got chosen for this sensitive job which people at the time might have thought would be a fulcrum point for a decision about the war.

You wouldn't send a peacenik to see if we should go to war, if we need to go to war, now would you? Well, turns out the wife did it.

IF she was covert then no, she should not have been outed by anyone

I'd like to see what happens with the investigation, whether any laws were broken and if so by whom.

I don't know how many people will see this, but it's a nice bit of provocation against the Leftist Propaganda Front, AKA the Main Stream Media.

That's a good question. One of the threads yesterday detailed Joe Wilson's financial interest through Africa and the Middle East. One troubling dealing was a turkish oil company vying for Oil For Food contracts in Iraq.

Simply amazing!

Good point. She worked for the US Government as a CIA whatever, and for the democrat cause it would appear.

"Luskin said of Cooper. "If you read what Karl said to him and read how Cooper characterizes it in the article, he really spins it in a pretty ugly fashion to make it seem like people in the White House were affirmatively reaching out to reporters to try to get them to report negative information about Plame."

Cooper Burned Rove.

Valeri Plame had not been a covert agent since it was discovered that Aldrich Ames had given her name to the Soviets. She was outed then and recalled to Washington.

I kinda wish the MSM would cover the Sandy Burger theft of documents from the national archive with just 10% of the interest they are putting into this story.

This has been one of the main items bugging me about this whole thing: IF Valerie Plame did recommend her husband for this job, then where did she get the idea? Did she dream it up herself? Or, did someone put her up to it? This is what should be the central point of the investigation...

If Rove actually did something wrong, why would he release the reporter from his confidentiality so they guy wouldn't have to go to jail??? If Rove was interested in hiding something he would have let the reporter go to jail. Obviously Rove had nothing to hide.

And if an agent is trying to keep a low profile, sending her (unqualified) husband on a high profile mission is probably not a great way to achieve that.

He's exactly right. Wilson's already been proven to be a liar, a Democratic partisan to the extreme and an apologist for the former regime in Iraq. His wife used the Central Intelligence Agency as a staging ground for partisan politcal attacks during a time of war.

Plame should be sharing a cell with Moussaoui as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure they'd get along famously.

I don't like to be too conspiratorial, but I agree there's a question here. It's possible, just possible, that this whole affair was set in motion by a clique in the CIA that was opposed to Bush and was trying to create trouble for him.

Before being exposed as a covert CIA agent by Aldridge Ames in 1994, Valerie Plame was a behind the Iron Curtain Spook. Langley extracted her and made her a Desk Jockey. This can turn an action craving person into a "disgruntled employee". The Wilsons wanted to live the life of a Washington Power Couple.

"I kinda wish the MSM would cover the Sandy Berger theft of documents from the national archive with just 10% of the interest they are putting into this story."

The vastly different media treatment of the Berger and Plame cases should be held up as Exhibit "A" in any future discussions of media bias. It is appalling. If Condi Rice had done what Berger did, it would have been the next Watergate, books would have been written about it, and the archival clerk who discovered the theft would have been Time's Man of the Year.

And more importantly if the reporter or Time magazine knew that Karl Rove did something wrong he would have outed him to the public very quickly and long time ago when it may have really mattered during the 2004 election campaign.
