Pelosi Statement on Karl Rove and White House CIA Leak

7/13/2005 2:36:00 PM

Contact: Brendan Daly or Jennifer Crider, 202-226-7616, both of the Office of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Web: http://democraticleader.house.gov

WASHINGTON, July 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to media inquiries about White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove's involvement in leaking the identity of CIA official Valerie Plame:

"The American people deserve the truth about who in the White House recklessly disclosed the identity of a CIA clandestine service officer, endangering our national security. The first President Bush called it a traitorous act to reveal the names of those involved in intelligence collection.

"The President said two years ago that he wanted to get to the bottom of this. If he were sincere, it would have happened. For two years, there has been an investigation that did not reveal Karl Rove's involvement until a reporter went to jail. It looks to me that there may have been some effort by people in the White House to obstruct the investigation.

"The President has said that anyone who leaked the identity of Ms. Plame should no longer be part of his Administration. The American people and Congress expect the President to keep his word. That means firing Karl Rove and anyone else in the White House if they identified her as a CIA clandestine service officer.

George W. Bush was reported as responding: "Who cares what you think?". Karl Rove was heard to mumble "Bite me". Dick Cheney's comment cannot be repeated on a family forum.

Cooper never released Plame's name.

That means that the conversation between Rove and Cooper does not constitute a leak.

Pelosi can go pound sand.

The first President Bush called it a traitorous act to reveal the names of those involved in intelligence collection.

As if she and her cohorts give a flip about being traitors - they consider the traitor brand to be a badge of honor. Kind of like Charlie Manson preaching to be kind to your fellows.

For two years, there has been an investigation that did not reveal Karl Rove's involvement until a reporter went to jail.

Is Pelosi accusing Rove of perjury? That can be the only conclusion if the investigation did not reveal Rove's involvement until Miller went to jail. Pelosi is saying that Rove did not testify truthfully when he was before the grand jury.

"The Dhimmicrats and the syncophant MSM pulled the ole "nothing to see here, move along" routine with Berger."

I made the same point on another thread. If Condi Rice had done what Berger did, it would have been the new Watergate scandal that the press has been dreaming about all these years - books would be written, and "Time" would name the archive employee who discovered the theft as Man of the Year.

How could anybody say so many things that are just flat out stupid lies in a prepared statement? I have come to expect that she runs off at the mouth, but this pile of garbage was written in advance.

The only comfort is that now that Nancy Pelosi has jumped on the bandwagon, you can be absolutely sure that the horse pulling it is dead.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dems huddled a few days ago and said something like this: "Look, we need to weaken the president before these Supreme Court nomination hearings, so let's make a big stink accusing Rove of breaking the law in the Plame case. We know it's a flimsy charge and it's not gonna stick, but it's something we can use against the president. Agreed? Now, here are the talking points . . . "

""The American people deserve the truth about who in the White House recklessly disclosed the identity of a CIA clandestine service officer, endangering our national security. The first President Bush called it a traitorous act to reveal the names of those involved in intelligence collection."

Her first sentence is a lie. Basing your statement upon a first sentence lie is a good way to make a fool of yourself.

I read somewhere that this woman was taken off of "clandestine" duty due to a person who sold secrets to the Soviets 9 YEARS before this "incident". Her husband had her name on his website, she was known all over Washington D.C. as a person who worked for the CIA....

Nancy Pelosi is just full of Bravo Sierra.

Pelosi is prejudging the outcome of the grand jury investigation, in direct contradiction to the "innocent until proven guilty" principle that is supposed to govern this country. The Reps need to make this point forcefully, and describe the Dems tactics as un-American.

You are correct. They have already judged Rove guilty and passed sentence.

What Pelosi won't admit though is that Rove wasn't the one who leaked her name. It was everyone else under the freaking sun who did....including her lying weasel of a husband.

Maybe Pelosi will call for her husband's head in her next statement?

Regardless of who leaked the information, Plame's identity was not revealed to the PUBLIC by anyone in the administration; if anyone "recklessly exposed the identity of a CIA clandestine service officer," it was the PRESS.

From The Works of Mark Twain; Early Tales & Sketches, Vol. 2 1864-1865, (Univ. of California Press, 1981)

Written by Mark Twain in San Francisco, Oct. 1865

BOB ROACH'S PLAN FOR CIRCUMVENTING A DEMOCRAT

Where did all these Democrats come from? They grow thicker and thicker and act more and more outrageously at each successive election.

Now yesterday they had the presumption to elect S. H. Dwinelle to the Judgeship of the Fifteenth District Court, and not content with this, they were depraved enough to elect four out of the six Justices of the Peace! Oh, 'Enery Villiam, where is thy blush! Oh, Timothy Hooligan, where is thy shame! It's out. Democrats haven't got any.

But Union men staid away from the election - they either did that or else they came to the election and voted Democratic tickets - I think it was the latter, though the Flag [a local paper] will doubtless say it was the former.

But these Democrats didn't stay away - you never catch a Democrat staying away from an election. The grand end and aim of his life is to vote or be voted for, and he accommodates to circumstances and does one just as cheerfully as he does the other. The Democracy of America left their native wilds in England and Connaught to come here and vote - and when a man, and especially a foreigner, who don't have any voting at home any more than an Arkansas man has ice-cream for dinner, comes three or four thousand miles to luxuriate in occasional voting, he isn't going to stay away from an election any more than the Arkansas man will leave the hotel table in "Orleans" until he has destroyed most of the ice cream.

The only man I ever knew who could counteract this passion on the part of Democrats for voting, was Robert Roach, carpenter of the steamer Aleck Scott, "plying to and from St. Louis to New Orleans and back," as her advertisement sometimes read. The Democrats generally came up as deck passengers from New Orleans, and the yellow fever used to snatch them right and left - eight or nine a day for the first six or eight hundred miles; consequently Roach would have a lot on hand to "plant" every time the boat landed to wood - 'plant' was Roach's word.

One day as Roach was superintending a burial the Captain came up and said: 'God bless my soul, Roach, what do you mean by shoving a corpse into a hole in the hill-side in this barbarous way, face down and its feet sticking out?' 'I always plant them foreign Democrats in that manner, sir, because, damn their souls, if you plant 'em any other way they'll dig out and vote the first time there's an election - but look at that fellow, now - you put 'em in head first and face down and the more they dig the deeper they'll go into the hill.'

In my opinion, if we do not get Roach to superintend our cemeteries, enough Democrats will dig out at the next election to carry their entire ticket. It begins to look that way.
