As Brits stiffen their upper lips and politicians hustle to reiterate that Islam is not the problem, cognitive dissonance grips the planet.
If Islam is not the problem, what is? And are we not inviting self-defeat by refusing to recognize that Islam is at least part of the problem?
Now that xenophobes are licking their chops, let me offer the requisite disclaimer. Most Muslims despise the barbaric tactics of radicals who have hijacked their religion in order to justify killing innocent civilians. The majority of Muslims don't deserve contempt from non-Muslims any more than infidels deserve "justice" administered by maniacs.

Based on what evidence? I'm sure that everyone that knew the The London Muslim Terrorists would have said the same thing. That they abhorred the violence and terrorist tactics and that their religion has been hijacked. Then the peace-loving, Elementary teaching, fun-loving, good-hearted Muslims left casually to kill the infidels in London.

I too once believed that peaceful Muslims were outraged by terrorist acts in the name of Islam but my belief has weakened due to the lack of actual facts to support the claim.
Many of them are afraid of being murdered in their sleep by the terrorists.
Tell me, would you call the papers and the television stations and announce that you were going to publicly burn and destroy a Koran and then let them take pictures and footage identifying you to the terrorists?

The first paragraph asserting that cognitive dissonance is at the heart of the West's response to islamic terrorism immediately adopts it.
I think the malady is closer to insanity.
Clearly, the entire islamic community can't be totally deaf and dumb. But that's exactly how it behaves.

So only 1% of Muslims are considered "radical", huh? It's comforting to know that there are "only" about 12,000,000 potential mass murderers who hate everyone else out there. I feel that 1% is extremely low if you consider the number who pass through the madrassas in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan only, year after year after year.
Surveys prove squat. I lie to every survey I am caught in. Deliberately.
The only thing that can prove attitude is behavior. Total silence and non-response to murderous behavior is itself behavior.
One percent is a ridiculously low figure, more along the lines of what the muslims themselves would like us to believe. Reality suggests closer to twenty percent.
Which would not be a problem if the other 80% were normal. But they are not. Their support through silence and total non-response is 100% effective.
But even assuming the silly 1% figure, that adds up to 10 million nutcases worldwide out to kill you individually or in a group.

As did I, up to about 1960 or so, when I was old enough to start asking questions and digging, historically speaking.
It did not take long to get a clear picture of Islam, even before the creation of the "palestinian" state (PLO), ostensibly the source of all grievances.
No rational person with more than a casual knowlege of islam and history can either "excuse" the murdering savage culture, nor care to "understand" it. Never mind reform it.

If muslims are really upset over islamic terrorism, violence, and oppression, wouldn't they be converting to a more civilized religion? Of course, leaving islam is punishable by death, according to the koran...It's the perfect religion for totalitarians.

We see the hate in the news daily. Where is the loving side of the 'religion'? Where are the charity groups? The concerted efforts by 'good muslims' to reach out to other religions? Where are the Muslim/Jewish get togethers, so their children can learn tolerance of each other?

Show me the facts that back up this statement. I can't post all the facts that show otherwise...it overload the internet, shut down all power grids and make the earth wobble on it's axis if I tried.

And yes, I've known and worked with a few 'nice' European Muslims.
But I never once forgot that they were Muslims.

Attendance was up from previous anti-terror rallies: I think there were 0.0000001 hundred thousand. There was one muslim woman but she could as a whole person.

This is an excellent point lost on most people.
My guess is that most of the "good" muslims I've met, socialized with and worked with never overtly or covertly suggested that they were muslim.
The few I can identify as muslim I discovered accidentally, or only after many years of knowing them.

Zactly. Any survey that I have seen of muslim countries show that suicide missions have high approval and al-queda and its' cohorts have high support. If muslims in civilized countries closed down the mosques of the islamists, quit funding them and turned in the terrs, it would be a different story but it ain't happenin.
There is simply no justification for strapping a bomb on your back and walking onto a subway to take the lives of dozens of civilians. So I'm not satisfied that the "friends and neighbors" really understood the true horror of what the bombers did.
Along the same lines, I caught a fragment of a radio report this morning that mentioned that at a recent national convention of Baptists, the group decided to omit the name of Jesus Christ from their opening remarks. Too *controversial* for them, and possibly *offensive to others*, it seems....
I'm not sure which group or where yet, but I'm going to try to track it down Monday.

But there are several other thriving FSP spinoffs as well, including the Free West Alliance and the Free Wyoming Project. And there's a similar effort in Texas to restoring Texas sanity to a county or tri-county area there, as well.
Doesn't promoting this kind of thing without a mention of the FSP hurt the FSP, though? I would consider Christian Exodus if I didn't know about FSP, just as I would these other groups you mention.
Good for them....not my cup of tea. Hope to make the move to NH in two years...three tops. I'm already scannng the real estate....the prices are still very good compared to DC.
