In the Lutheran reformation, the goal was to bring the Bible into actual use by the people through translation into common language and allowing people to actual read it, not just forcing beleif what the 'supreme leader' said it did.
Unfort, a hypothetical islamic reformer has to do the exact opposite -- make people believe in what the reformer says not what the book actually does say.
It says a lot about Islam when any criticism is met with death threats.
Every Imam can hand down a death sentence - these aren't idle threats.
I'm with you!
Being a 'moderate' Muslim is like having a 'little' cancer.
Infected and sick is infected and sick.
Please add me to your BreakPoint/Chuck Colson Ping! Thanks.
I believe the Qu'ran needs to be rewritten, to exclude the old and outdated "warrior" crap and to include more of the (admittedly Christian) "turn the other cheek" dogma. As currently written, the Qu'ran is a text for waging merciless war against the infidel and the conversion of the entire planet, and that is simply not acceptable in the modern world.
Consolidate all of Islam under a revised Qu'ran, with forgiveness and love in place of murder and beheading, and we might get somewhere.
Otherwise we will (soon) see another Crusade, starting with nukes then getting REALLY nasty. Sad times.
I agree.
The reform of Islam sounds like a dream!
A: That would be the one who's just run out of ammunition.
"Reform" islam?
Nice IDEA.
Let's NOT hold our breaths.
First, there have to be reformers and a basis for reformation. In the Christian protestant Reformation, Martin Luther called the Catholic church to Biblical purity and to purge themselves of non-biblical practices, like the practice of indulgences.
What would happen if all Muslims made the same sort of reforms, i.e.: purge themselves of non-Koranic practices and renewed their commitment to following the pure teachings of Mohammed? Well, we already know what that "reformation" is all about: al-Qaeda, Osama bin-Laden, Ayatollah Khomeni, et al.
How to "reform" Islam?
Only one way: Jesus Christ.
Amen!
In doing genealogical research on the Spanish side of my family I finally came across a family crest. To my surprise, they were involved in the Crusades and fighting against Muslims in Spain! The shield bears six Muslim heads- so it seems I come by my distrust and revulsion genetically as well as sociologically!
Sad to still have to be at it after all this time tho.
Just goes to show- when you do something, it should be done right the FIRST time!
