JACKSON, Miss. - A Christian adoption agency that receives money from Choose Life license plate fees said it does not place children with Roman Catholic couples because their religion conflicts with the agencys Statement of Faith.
Bethany Christian Services stated the policy in a letter to a Jackson couple this month, and another Mississippi couple said they were rejected for the same reason last year.
It has been our understanding that Catholicism does not agree with our Statement of Faith, Bethanys state director Karen Stewart wrote. Our practice to not accept applications from Catholics was an effort to be good stewards of an adoptive applicants time, money and emotional energy.

What exactly does their Statement of Faith say that would bar Catholics???
The only problem I see with it, is they take state money I believe. If it's a totally private org, they should be able to do what they wish, whether or not I agree with their religious test.
The adoption agency are pagans who fancy themselves as Christian I guess.

>>They're a private company. They may do whatever they wish. If you're Catholic, go somewhere else. There are plenty of other places where you may do business.<<
Private company means nothing. Just because you are a private company, you still cannot not serve blacks for example. The Civil Rights Act requires places of public accomodation to serve people regardless of race, sex, creed or religion. If they refused to place people in black homes, or jewish homes, should those blacks or those jews just go elsewhere?
When they agree to accept tax dollars from the proceeds of "Choose Life" license plates, they become a whole lot less private.
While I would agree with your sentiments in practically every other scenario, when a business (non prof or otherwise) decides to suckle off of Uncle Sugar, they forfeit their right to be choosy.
Dear NYer, I think you should PING this news.
Dear APFel, I feel you're right: they're no private and they're using Christian religion for other goals.

There was a big ol' thread on this earlier today. Interesting stuff..
"What exactly does their Statement of Faith say that would bar Catholics???"
[See 500 years worth of Protestant confessions of faith.]
What is the unwritten headline and subhead here?
CHRISTIANS ARE ALL HYPOCRITES!
CHOOSE LIFE PLATES MUST BE STOPPED!
Anyone who's been a Catholic for any length of time will find nothing new here. As a lifer, I've been listening to this crap from "Christian" groups for fifty years. Funny how some always seem to be trying to kick the one running in front of him.
What stupidity. Catholics and Protestants may have some theological differences, but the fundamental premise, the belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior, is what we have in common. We have got to stop focusing on our differences and recognize each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and ye shall be saved," says the Scripture.
At this time in history, when Christianity is threatened from within the United States and from the horrific outside threat of Islam, we need to stand together as followers of Christ. Let us learn from our history: it was during the time when northern European Catholics and Protestants were battling it out that our attention slipped and the Muslims were able to reach the very gates of Vienna. They nearly took over Europe once before, boys and girls, and they can do it again. We must hang together or we will surely hang separately (or more likely, be bastinadoed to death by Muslims separately).
I sympathize with you. I have a couple of Muslims for supervisors where I work. They make little secret of their feelings.
