But just out of curiosity, where does one dispose of a ciggie while on the beach?I usually just put mine in my empty beer can and heave it out the window on the way home.

The reason most people are there is to enjoy the *fresh* air, sunshine, and water.

Right on the sand, from what I've seen.
Smokers should carry little bags like dog poo bags and tote their trash out of there. Just common courtesy.
