SMOKERS NOT WELCOME AT WINTHROP BEACH, Maine - Then post a sign!
Maine Smokers Rights ^ | 7-16-05 | D. Brennan

What's up in the town of Winthrop, Maine? SMOKERS NOT WELCOME AT WINTHROP BEACH!

Winthrop proves smoking is not a health issue at all.  But it's all about CON T R O L!

7-16-05 - I was notified of the ridiculous treatment given to one family just because a family member was smoking.

A cop approached the family and told them they would have to leave because this was a "no smoking beach."  The family, as you can see, is not "on" the beach, but on the grassy area.  There were no signs stating that the area was smoke free.  The cop told them that there was a sign, but it was now "gone."

Who pays for the care of Winthrop Beach?  The taxpayers?  People in Maine who smoke are paying well above their fair share of taxes.  Tax payers are also paying for this "cop," who evidently had nothing better to do then harass a family because one of the adults  was smoking.

Rule #11:  Trash, debris or cigarette butts must be placed in trash containers.

The only signs that were posted.  If Winthrop wants a smoke free beach, they need to get their act together and POST said signs!  NOW!

So...no more perfume, either? Some people are allergic to perfume, you know.

I've never smoked; but I worry about the encroachment of freedoms.

Banning the use of laws to discourage an unhealthy habit is likewise an encroachment of freedoms.

That idea doesn't bother you?

Geocities (non-subscription) prevents the linking of images on their servers. Perhaps SheLion isn't aware that we cannot see the images she posted links to, as they may still appear from her cache to her own browser, but not ours.

Not at all. If people are going to be irresponsible then members of society have a right to discourage them.

Now,now,She,remember my son is with NYPD---though they probably have more to do in NYC than harass smokers----at least I hope so.

LAWS are not "discouragement"--but "INFORCEMENT."

It is funny that you said that.

I saw a thread with NEA minutes posted this morning. They had a section talking about banning perfume.

I will check 'my comments' to find it and ping you there.

So the town places a sign on the beach, and that is that?

That's all they have to do.  "This is a no smoking beach area.  Smokers will be removed."  That's all they are required to do.

Then smokers can decide if they still want to set up there or go on to another beach.

Sorry, I meant it's not nice for your ISP to not give you enough bandwidth.

Oh!  ~whew! LOL!

Well, I have sites on Tripod and Geo Cities.  The images I load on those two sites won't allow me to use them on Free Republic.

So I bought another site "Host File."  They allow remote loading.  That is where I store all my images for Free Republic.  But I posted this on my Maine Smokers Rights this morning and forgot that I loaded the pictures at Geo.  So, of course, when I posted this as a thread here, the pictures didn't show up.

I was embarrassed.

Perhaps SheLion isn't aware that we cannot see the images she posted links to, as they may still appear from her cache to her own browser, but not ours.

Oh common.

I've been apart of the Internet since 1994.  I gave my explanation as to why the images didn't appear when I first posted this thread.

I had been working out of Geo Cities all morning and then slapped this onto Free Republic before I remembered that I had to load the pictures in Host File so they would show up here.

How many other times have you read my threads and my images didn't show up?  Not very often!

Oh I would certainly think so, Mears. I don't think Winthrop is all that big. How many cops do they have there anyway? 4???

Madame Dufarge and I lived at the beach for twenty-eight years. Broken glass was 100 times the threat cigarettes were.

Smokers are being harrassed all over the place by all kinds of people in authority. They just can't leave us alone!
