CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Former National Football League quarterback Heath Shuler plans to run for the U.S. Congress. Shuler, a Democrat, said in a statement Monday that he has filed papers with the Federal Election Commission that clear the way for him to run next year in the 11th Congressional District for the U.S. House of Representatives seat held by Republican Charles Taylor. Shuler didn't name Taylor in a press release that emphasized pocketbook issues.

I thought he was in Liberia.
Info: Your neck of da woods.
Horrible QB, not suprised he is a dem.
Careeer quarterback rating: 54.3. Mediocre is as mediocre does.
Hopefully his campaign will fare no better than his time in the NFL.
I mean, I wish the guy well in life as I liked to watch him while at Tennesse, but Taylor is a good conservative.
And when 'pocketbook' issues are stressed, it is usually a way of getting around having to admit that "yes, I may claim to be against gay marriage, for Second Amendment rights, etc, but the fact is that I will be a caucasing vote for far-left radicals like Nancy Pelosi who will endeavor to crap all over the values of the people of the 11th district."
How long has it been since an athlete ran as a Democrat?
5 NFL Seasons average completion 49.2%. 15TD's 33int's, Lifetime QB rating 54.3. He stinks!

Looks like he stayed about 3 seasons too long.
Somebory has his ear??
He was OK in College, but couldn't hack it in the pros... To much of a sissy i guess...
The Redskins blew a terribly high draft pick on this clown. D.C. area sports writers came away from an initial interview with him shaking their heads; one remarked "Sheeesh, they've just drafted Gomer Pyle..." Another noted that you only had to talk to the guy for five minutes to comprehend that he wasn't bright enough to play quarterback in the NFL, regardless of any physical skills he might have.
He is dumb as a box of rocks, so being a Dem does not surprise me.
Foot surgery, stem.
What is interesting is who is backing this.
I can only think of Alan Page, who's a judge in MN; I'm assuming only he's a dem, probably because I saw some liberal sportswriter praise him, and J.C. Watts aside he's of a demographic that is overwhelmingly Democratic.

Sorry for the double-post.
Mediocre is being awefully generous.
Typical. Had he kept his wheels under him, next week them hacks would have been singing his praises.
The man caught some bad luck as a player. But, I am more interested in who is touting him for office.
Must have been dumped, never heard of him...
Steve Largent.
Steve Largent, pro-football hall of fame reciever for the Seahawks ran for governer of Oklahoma, sadly, he lost
54.3? Not mediocre, terrible
Ronald Reagan played football for Eureka College.

Foot surgery made him throw 33int's in 29 games with only 593 attempts?
ya don't say?
Jim Ryan, Kansas Congressman, track star (mile run).
Congressman Billybob
Yeah, forgot about Largent. I was thinking professionals. Wasn't it spelled "Ryun".
For a politician, he's a pretty good ex-football player.
Byron "Whizzer" White, Supreme Court Justice. Although he was appointed by Kennedy he still was more conservative than some Republican appointees. Also, Bob Thomas, Chief Justice of the Ill Supreme Court, was the Bears kicker for 10 years and is a solid conservative.
I am somewhat surprised. I thought he was really religious.
Ditka walked into the locker room one Sunday before a game and looked at his 4 QBs, Billy Joe Tolliver, Billy Joe Hoebert, Heath Shuler, and Shane Matthews. Both Billy Joes were down with injuries. To one of the Billy Joes he said, well, you can't throw, to the other he said, and you can't run. Then he looked at Shuler and said you just suck, I guess you're up this week Matthews.
Even if he should win, will Washington allow him back?
Another good NCSU alumni!
LOL!
Luckily for us Patriot fans the Redskins took him and passed on Willie McGinest.
Oops. Was -- and is. Sorry 'bout that.
Well Leaf was a bigger bust.
He's probably a Dem too.
IIRC Joe Gibbs gave up on him when he was with the Redskins.
I remember when Mike Ditka traded for that bum when he was coaching the Saints. He had one game against the Lions where he was absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, the rest of the time he spent in New Orleans was ineptness squared.
It figures that he would be running as a RAT; as dumb as he is, he should fit right in with Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the brain trust.
