The Damn is breaking. Recent "Letters to the Editor" across the country on Islam

Posted on 07/22/2005 9:25:20 AM PDT by quesney

In a barrage of recent letters to editors across the country, ordinary Americans are rejecting the PC talk of "moderate" Muslims and Islam being a "religion of peace." Cracks in the dam are spreading and widening. A massive terror attack will blow it wide open. And then, the deluge. Here's hoping "moderate" Muslims will help us keep it from happening.

Letters to the Editor (various publications):

------

CA: Muslims Have Forfeited Rights as Citizens

Contra Costa Times, 7/21/05

http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/

In my view, adherents of the Muslim religion have forfeited their right to be accepted as loyal citizens of the United States. At the very least, they should expect to be granted citizenship only after being interrogated as to their intentions after being granted such status. Our nation is not obligated to welcome persons who belong to a group whose membership includes many who have no intention to embrace this nation's fundamental principles as sent forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The violence-prone Muslims, it is now clear, are not just a tiny fraction of the billion or so Muslims scattered about the earth. No, Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida, the Taliban, the Wahabis, and other such militant factions within Islam are a substantial portion of the whole.

----------

CA: Islam Not About Freedom

Kirstin Muhm, Ventura County Star, 7/21/05

http://www.venturacountystar.com/vcs/opinion/article/0,1375,VCS_125_3941755,00.html

Re: Frank Moraga's July 15 essay, "Voices of moderation": As a world traveler who just returned from Egypt, I can tell you that America is the most tolerant nation in this world. We have more freedom in this country, and that is why so many immigrants desire to come here. But one thing that Americans will not tolerate is our freedom being taken from us. I quote from Mr. Moraga's essay: "Islam is not about hatred and violence. It's about peace and justice." Any Muslim who tries to convince us of that is trying to whitewash Islam. We are not stupid. We can read the Quran for ourselves. To be Muslim and not follow the Quran is blasphemy. It is full of violence and hatred, and it suppresses the rights of all women. Look at recent history and see what is happening to countries that are dominated by Islam. Freedom is taken away, and seventh century Arab culture becomes the law. If that isn't enough, the Quran says in Sura 8:30 to fight them (non-Muslims) until persecution is no more, and religion is all of Allah. In other words, keep up the terrorist activities until Islam dominates the world. To try to convince us that this is not true, show me an Islamic nation that loves and enjoys freedom as much as we do.

FL: Islam Itself is at Root of Terror

Earle Greene, Tallahassee Democrat, 7/21/05

http://www.tallahassee.com/mld/democrat/news/editorial/letters/12180325.htm

Re: "To crush terror, find its cause" (column, July 18). I could not agree more with Eugene Robinson's column, but it was disappointing that he did not offer any insight into understanding the cause. Unlike Tony Blair's assertion after the London bombings that the cause is linked to promotion of "a perverted and poisonous misinterpretation of Islam," politicians should stop trying to whitewash Islam and recognize that it is the root cause. Any individual who will take the time to read the entire Quran will find that it provides a clear ideology supporting and encouraging terrorist activity. The terrorists are nothing more than Muslims who are taking their religion seriously. As long as we continue to allow our thirst for oil and commitment to tolerance to keep us in denial of this dirty truth, we will continue to live with the bombs.

There may perhaps be movement in that direction, but I suspect it will be short-lived. I recall on Sept 12, even the Democrats were talking tough and sounding like they meant it. Now, in the wake of the London attacks, people are writing letters and sounding like they "get it".

Check the letters column in 6 months and see how many people retain this level of understanding of Islam.

You're right, letters are an effect, not a cause. They're an effect of the gradual understanding of the problem. After enough people understand, though, a cure might be at hand.

Never suggested they were. They're a collective warning to "moderate" Muslims to act to deal with this terror threat...or else.

Letters to the editor isn't enough to stop anything.<<

Probably not, but those letters are certainly telling us something aren't they?

What these letters are saying is along the lines of: "Listen up muslims, we know what our government says about your supposed religion of peace, but dont think our government tells us how to think or believe...We believe our own senses and US Citizens DO NOT trust you"

You are most likely correct. Many people have forgotten we were attacked on 9/11. Look at the "I hate America, Bush's Fault International Freedom Center" that they want to put a Ground Zero. This is where 3000 Americans were murdered by a violent cult.

Time was, passing a literacy test and PLEDGING ALLIEGENCE to the US was a requisite for citizenship.

If all or even ANY part of that equation would be adhered to now, no Muslim would be here.

I know MY grandparents shook in their shoes at the idea of not being allowed in and strived to meet the requirements...all of them. In the end too, they were positively giddy with pride and self satisfaction to finally be citizens of the US!!

No, but it's a start.  As long as the word starts getting out, things can snowball from there.

On the way to lunch I had a radio station on that sort of has a slight liberal slant (very small) and they asked callers to respond to the recent attacks.  All but one expressed concern about this "religion" and put the blame squarely on the leaders of Islam.  The one that did call in to blame the US, and Bush in particular, came across as a complete idiot and was pratically booed off the line.

Like I said, it is a start.  If these attacks happen here it WILL start to get really ugly.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this is that some papers are actually PUBLISHING these letters. I am going to assume that they have been receiving such letters for some time, so why are they now deciding to publish them? Stepping outside the box of protecting the left agenda of destroying our country is not something that most newspapers do. Could it be that a few of the editors are becoming a 'leetle beet' concerned too?

Exactly. Until the average Joe Sixpack tells his representation in Government: "Deal with this or we vote you out." and means it, or there is massive violence on America's streets, nothing will change. Letters to the Editor are worthless at best.

IMHO, it is going to take another major terrorist attack (or six) here for anything effective to be done about the problem.

The average American is too apathetic at best or too sympathetic to our enemies at worst to care; and governmental officials at all levels are too corrupt/compromised to do anything.

Frankly, I think fear of being blasted as racist is what kept many from speaking out. As more of us begin to speak out against the "religion" itself, more will follow.

A massive terror attack will blow it wide open. And then, the deluge.

Meaning?

a) A deluge of "war is not the answer" peacenik marches?

b) A deluge of more photo-ops of the President with Muslim leaders making T.R.O.P. speeches?

c) A deluge of more boring "bring them to juctice" speeches?

d) A deluge of "I told you so" posturing from Democrats?

e) All of the above?

f) None of the above, something ELSE?

One more 9/11 type terrorist attack in America and every Muslim and his family will have to pack up and go back to whatever hellhole they originated from.

Our ancestors didn't lay their lives on the line for over 200 years to make a better place for their families just so a bunch of camel jockeys could come here and terrorize our women and children and make hamburger out of our families. And if the ACLU or anyone else doesn't like it, they can get the hell out and go with 'em.

Letters to the editor isn't enough to stop anything.

No, they're not. They are, however, a barometer that can measure public sentiment. And, public sentiment is turning away from tolerance of self serving muslims denying responsibility for the venom spewed by their leaderships. In some circles, the talk of incarceration of muslims is actually being given some consideration. How much would it take for spontaneous appearances of self defense militias to arise? Not much, I'd wager.
