Vandals are compounding the grief of a Tri-state soldier's family.

Not even 24-hours after Private First Class Tim Hines's wife and family said goodbye at his funeral, American flags that had adorned their Fairfield yard were piled beneath a car and burned....

I read the article and disagree completely with the conclusion of that "one neighbor". There is no way that, drunk or sober, burning American Flags is not making a political statement!

""I don't think it's a political statement," said [police chief] Kramer."

Who the heck cares what type of a "statement" is intended by perps like this? Why would anyone want to listen to their reasons and excuses?

Being drunk should be no excuse. In some good states, a felony committed while drunk is considered premeditated. As soon as you start drinking, you are allowing yourself to be liable for whatever you do.

If these are teenagers, then they are considered wise enough to vote (!) and to have an abortion (!). Surely they can be expected to take the punishment for this deed, and I hope that they are caught. I hope the punishment is severe; and I wish that punitive damages be assessed against their no-good parents and grandparents, and whosoever else has had anything to do with their upbringing, including their teachers.

They can say the perps were probably drunk, but I don't buy it as the sole motivation. Drunk is setting one flag on fire, in place in the yard. Drunk is "hold muh beer and watch this" and getting your ass burned trying to light a fart. This reads more like a deliberate act. They may have had to be drunk in order to do it, but I can't believe it was random.

What makes you think it would be some rich kids. Only affluent kids vandalize things? That really sounded like a statement that some lib would make.

Well, I know the area. It's not super-wealthy, but it's wealthy enough that it is highly likely that at least one of the perps' parents could call someone on City Council to get the chief to be quiet. Same thing in the prosecutor's office.

There just isn't a core group of liberals within 15 miles of the place. The nearest Dem voting area is the City of Hamilton, and I don't think they'd tolerate vandalism to a soldier's family very well there.

I suppose it's possible that some Moveon types got together and hunted down the address, but it's simply not the way to bet.

I disagree with Kramer, who said he didn't think it was political. It is, indeed, the work of the socialist culture as professed by the anti-American-secular-left-wing.

BTW, the American Legion is going after the ACLU (aka the Anti-American Litigation Union). We need to get behind them with our support.

Why are you shocked!

They are moral people who oppose this bad inhumane war that is unjust. They just want to "express" themselves.

Is this a hate crime? Probably not. THIS IS A HATE CRIME IN THE US: http://www.townhall.com/columnists/michellemalkin/mm20050706.shtml

Burn US flags under a pregnant woman’s car whose husband was buried 24 hours earlier. No, that’s not a hate crime!

Actually, I think lynching should be brought back. And now I'm not being sarcastic. I hope I don't get in trouble for writing this. But I think people who do things like this should just go away, if you know what I mean? Find them and make them disappear. But that won’t happen. This won’t even get national attention. The FEDs won’t even get engaged. The victims will get nothing and when the culprits are caught it’ll be “ahhh, It’s no big deal.”

Disgusting beyond words. A local car dealership should give the family a new car asap, plus pay any taxes.

We've got these problems in Oklahoma, too. Yesterday a soldier's funeral was invaded by about a dozen peaceniks. So far we haven't heard of any vandalism. (This per our local CBS affiliate station news this morning.)

yeah...

my guess is though that the kids were about 14-15 yrs old, probably thinking they are gothic at some level and decided this would be "cool".

I would also fathom a guess that the kids probably live within that very same neighborhood.

Alcohol is a drug. Alcohol consumed in mass quantities makes people stupid. Doesn't matter whether it's a group of dumb-ass teens or a couple of dumb-ass pilots (hooray, the two morons who tried to get aboard an American West airplane while they were drunk were sentenced to five and two-and-a-half years for attempted manslaughter).

My solution for all of this is once these little bastards are caught, remove them from their cushy lifestyles, send them to boot camp, stick a rifle in their uncalloused hands and let them stand a watch in Fallujah.

Oh, and send the parents to prison for gross stupidity.

Hopefully "someones" will get to these people before the police and stomp them into the muck.

If the police get to them first they will be hero's.

Well then, let's ask when was the last time anyone was drunk and decided to burn a flag? Where would that thought be implanted deep into their skulls to come out at that moment?

We must stop liberal media.

May God Bless and Keep that family.

If for some reason their insurance doesn’t cover this. Maybe we should send her some compensation money? Is there a way to get her the money?

Donations can be made to the Timothy Hines Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third Bank (www.53.com), or to the Hines Family House project through Impact A Hero. Information about that program can be found online at www.impactahero.com.

..."The scum that did this are "people" without concience, without souls, without morals or a drip of integerity."

You left out the words "cowardly" and "without decency".

Other than that you nailed em down pretty good.

Gee, drunk teens never do anything to shock anyone, right. They simply get a good buzz on and sway back and forth to Jerry Garcia underneath a street lamp. /sarcasm
