Bible singers vs. breast implants (MDs also against such makeovers)
Toronto Star ^ | Jul. 25, 2005 | Jeff Bassett

PENTICTON, B.C.—Hours before a 22-year-old personal banker won a free set of breast implants, elderly churchgoers did their bit to change the minds of 36 contestants ....[Skipping the whole beginning, which was kinda irrelevant]

"[I]t's my body and I'm going to do whatever I want," said Tiffany Friesen between celebratory screams and gulps of champagne inside the club.

Names of all the contestants, most of whom were 19 or in their early 20s, were taped to a prize wheel for a chance at the $3,000 prize.

One by one they filed up on stage in mini skirts and tight dresses to spin the wheel, eliminating the girl whose name it landed on.

Friesen shrieked in disbelief when she was the last woman standing.

Other contestants... sulked, soothing their disappointment at the bar. They lost a chance at gaining self-confidence, many of them said.

Men at the club were astounded at the competition.

"They're all so beautiful. Every single one of the contestants is really good-looking. I don't get it," said Steve Jones, 32, who was visiting from Calgary.

"Natural is so much better. I want to tell all these girls, `don't do it!'"

Friesen, a slim, tanned woman from Fort St. John, said her good looks aren't enough for her.

"I was born really unlucky with this one part of my body. I've been wanting implants for five years ... It's going to be great," said Friesen.

Women's groups are worried that contestants in the Sextreme Makeover competition aren't thinking about the possible health risks associated with breast implants.

Breast implant surgery carries the same operative risks associated with many surgical interventions to implant a medical device. Health Canada says they can cause infection, hematoma, delayed wound healing and changes in sensation...

I see nothing wrong with improvement along the way, if that is what you want. Most of the people I have seen who are so vehemently against cosmetic surgery either can't afford it or are to far gone to be helped.

Does anyone say, "I love you," "I cherish you," "I praise God for what you are"?

shame, isn't it? I can remember the day when men appreciated a woman who was "well endowed by her creator."

Will they be mystified and miserable when they're in their thirties and they see in the mirror the sagging, bulges, wrinkles, grey hairs

Good God, who do you hang with, junkies?

I think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. They're flat chested and they have a surgical means of changing it. More power to 'em.

That's exactly right. I was joking around before, but to be honest, I'm fairly comfortable with the way I am, warts and all, lol. If I ever did do something like that, it wouldn't be to boost my self-confidence, that's for sure! I'm an arrogant wench who doesn't need any help in that department. :)

My main objection to plastic surgery isn't so much the folks that want to get it done, as it is with the doctors that perform those procedures. AFAIK, prospective patients for elective plastic surgery are supposed to go through a psychological screening in order to determine whether or not they are "good candidates" mentally, as well as physically.

From what I understand, too many of these doctors are bypassing this step so they can collect the moola. Never mind that this might be someone's fifth attempt to "get it right" or some such thing. There's lots of money to be made in plastic surgery, after all.

Reconstructive surgery, otoh, is a different kettle of fish.

A lot of jokes aside, I see nothing wrong with implants.

Can the be done to excess? Yes

Can they be over-done? Of course.

But I see nothing wrong with a woman who gets them done to balance out her body.

To me its no different that dying hair, getting fake nails, etc.

I'm not sure if it's photo-shopped or not, it was sent to me as part of an email touting the benefits of making sure you drink enough water.

And don't call me Shirley........

Well, I can't vouch for those, but I have seen pictures of strippers that some of my ex-bosses took, that were that big, or bigger, and this was probably about 15 years ago!

"Natural is so much better. I want to tell all these girls, `don't do it!'"

I know lots of guys who say this. But they also break their necks looking at the cleavage of a chick with boob-job.

My motto is that life is short enough as it is. If that's what a girl thinks is going to make her happy, she should go for it. I think it's sad because $3,000 is a lot of money and can buy plenty of fun with my family. Besides, what about long term? Do they need to be removed? Replaced?

Too complicated for me...

Yes, it's a very funny thing. I notice that many men will bitterly criticize and make fun of women who are flat-chested. But the women go out and get boob jobs and men make fun of that, too. It's interesting.

I'm not sure "interesting" is the word I would use for it.

Then again, I'm sure you are a nicer person that I am, lol.
