POSTED: 2:19 pm EDT July 26, 2005 UPDATED: 2:29 pm EDT July 26, 2005

Several F-16 fighter jets patrolling the skies above the Kennedy Space Center were scrambled when a small plane violated restricted air space near the shuttle launch pad.

The fighter jets escorted the Cessna plane to Lake County, Fla., where it landed without further incident, according to reports.

The F-16 fighter jets patrolling the shuttle were from Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.

It is not known if the pilot will face charges in connection with the incident.

Local pilots often go up to watch the launch, and MOST are well aware of the limits. I also heard on the radio that the guy landed in Lake County and tried to hide the plane - guess he knows he screwed up!

This idiot should have his ticket pulled and be fined a minimum of $10,000.

Several F-16 fighter jets patrolling the skies above the Kennedy Space Center were scrambled ...

Stupid reporters.... Which is it, were they patrolling or was it necessary to scramble them.

Ha - it's like whenever they discuss firearms too. Bet they couldn't wait to use the word 'scrambled' - try a Denny's or a diner, guy - it works there!

k,
You know, I missed that. What always bugs me is that they have to specify that they're "jets".

Is there an F-16 fighter prop?

And the pilot was issued fresh underwear...

It's nice of you to want to get native Americans involved in the space program.
